    It didn't help that Weeekly went on hiatus after Ven Para was released. StayC kept trekking on after Run2U and especially Beautiful Monster (which got worse reception by fans than the former). By going on hiatus for around 1 1/2 years, Weeekly and IST Entertainment were essentially finding themselves lost among spectacular releases like Tomboy by (G)I-DLE (which was released 1 week after Ven Para) and Love Dive by IVE (which was under a month later), as well as debuts of popular groups like Le sserafim and NewJeans. By the time Vroom Vroom came out close to the end of 2023, most fans had already moved on to other groups. I only have IST to blame for mismanaging them.

      Yea, did lowkey wanna look into Beautiful Monster too considering that was that era that was the most controversial for StayC but the respective era for Weeekly would have been Vroom Vroom.
      As for Weeekly's Vroom Vroom, I feel like it did pretty good despite the random hiatus. Definitely not the notable attention that they were receiving previously, but not enough to count them out completely. With the next comeback coming soon; hopefully this shows a greater sign of a bounce back

      Thing is that STAYC climbed back a lot when they released teddy bear right after beautiful monster, Teddy bear was more successful than asap, their most successful song initially. While, Weeekly has never made a strong comeback after after school

      @cloudchungxiao  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thoughts on Cheeky Icy Thang?
      As for teddy bear being more successful than asap; I could kinda see that domestically. Not sure internationally. Plus thoughts on Stereotype in comparison to the Teddy Bear and ASAP? You think it's 3rd or the more successful comeback?

    One trivia is Seeun was actually training at PlayM along with the predebut Weeekly members but she eventually went to High UP Ent to debut in stayc.

  • @ALLURISTIC
    @ALLURISTIC 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +39

    Not many people know, but Stereotype was meant to be STAYC’s debut song as they wanted to come out with a big hit, but bep decided not to due to them being a new group, which was genius, because it got the songs that weren’t the full “teen fresh” sound and made it their second comeback because he knew it would win.

    • @cloudchungxiao
      @cloudchungxiao  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Ohh interesting; I can see the pros and cons of waiting to release stereotype. Like you wanna build a bit of a fanbase before you release that mighty song to further garner more of a fandom; however, it's also a big risk to release such a mighty song when you are still new to the scene.

    i def think their biggest difference would be how smart high up's marketing team is and the amount of time and research that go into each of stayc's comebacks which can be seen before they even debuted. their attention to what's "trending" and popular and are able to put stayc's own flare on it making it draw attention for it's familiarity but keeps fans with stayc's level of talent and charisma. ie so bad had the retro future sound which was popular around their debut, asap had a quirky sound which wasn't very big at the time so it stood out a lot more esp on tiktok which EATS UP that sort of sound, stereotype went back to the the retro sound but with a more future nostalgia feel with the use of synths, then for run2u (my favorite of their title tracks) it touched a more mature sound that you talked about in the video paying homage to their debut, then beautiful monster was VERY smart as taylor swift was trending a ton this year with "taylor's version" (and seeing as their fan-base are called 'swifts') it's only right to see a contemporary/ country-inspired comeback which even though didn't sell as well as previous releases but cemented their first 4 korean comebacks... going into their biggest project ever, their japanese debut- probably the best japanese debut from a korean act i've ever heard (but that's a totally different story)

    • @cloudchungxiao
      @cloudchungxiao  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      Ohh defs interesting take. Never really thought about the marketing of the song in terms of what was trending considering in the realm of kpop music; I feel like when they were releasing the music, those types of sounds weren't completely overused where it was noticeable so I guess maybe the jumped on them at a pretty decent time.

    the issue with weeekly is that holiday party had nothing in it that appealed to listeners who liked after school. it was just a weak followup song. and then their management changed, their playM team had a clear direction for the group but once IST took over, things got messy with them jumping onto the girl crush concept even though it was extremely outdated by 2022. weak song, weak visuals and most of the members didn’t suit it. i heard similar complaints from the boyz fans about the change in management too.
    stayc lucked out by going viral with their first comeback and gained a big fanbase from it. they also have the same producers working on their music so their sound is consistent and it never feels like there is a HUGE shift in sound or concept.

    • @cloudchungxiao
      @cloudchungxiao  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Holy crap. That was in the back of my head as a consideration but it didn't really click on me that the merge of Play M and Creker was in between Holiday Party and Ven Para. That could defs explain a bit more as to just a complete change up in management and just everything? Had to look in the Boyz too because lowkey have stopped following them for a while now and also around the merge of the company is when I just kinda stopped hearing about them.

    Wooha is currently going down the weeekly route.
    I think stayc took the first wave of vitality pretty smart but most people were disappointed by beautiful monster (not me tho), I was disappointed starting teddy bear, like also many others. I hope their next Comeback will be good.

    • @pinklemonaze9982
      @pinklemonaze9982 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      not in terms of music though, Wooah's new song isn't really a switch up for them. They have a lot of songs with darker sounds to them, including parts of their debut, Bad Girl, and Danger.

    • @cloudchungxiao
      @cloudchungxiao  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Yea, with the hiatus and change up I can kinda see that. I feel like the two songs of Bad Girl and Danger don't have the complete darker song like Pom Pom Pom.
      As for the StayC part, I actually like Teddy Bear but they kinda lost me with Bubble. Interested to see what they do with their full album. From the teaser images, it doesn't look like they will be going down the complete bright sound potentially.

  • @kacey_k
    @kacey_k 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +14

    Both groups have a lot of talent. I think the main difference is that STAYC has a renowned producer duo (Black Eyed Pilseung) who write all their title tracks and most of their b-sides, so they have their distinct music identity.

    • @cloudchungxiao
      @cloudchungxiao  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Yea, I was going to mention the impact of BEP for StayC but then I remembered an older video that I did about not all producer-owned companies getting the same benefits despite maybe the producer recognition. But yea, one thing about BEP is that they were still producing hits during this 4th gen era and so this might have contributed to still being hip with the trends and understanding Kpop still.

    when after school came out i was obsessed with weeekly, they had a unique and defined concept that i loved and made it easy for me to get into the group since after school was my introduction to them. imagine my surprise when they announced a more girl crush concept for ven para, just when i thought i had escaped the girl crush wave...
    not sure if this was a deciding factor for any other former fans but when Jiyoon left the group I officially unstanned weeekly, she was my bias and a huge reason why i loved the group, she was involved with writing some of their songs too. having a member leave the group also kind of killed their "days of the week" theme as now there are only 6/7 days represented by members. honestly I haven't listened to their comebacks after ven para so i'm not sure what kind of things they're up to these days but i hope they're doing well. Jiyoon recently released a solo self produced song called Yellow Light and it's a song with a really bright concept!

    • @cloudchungxiao
      @cloudchungxiao  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ohh right. I didn't stan Weeekly like that but I definitely was listening to their music for sure. Didn't feel the impacts of Jiyoon as much to notice the shift of her departure but yea, I did see a lot of people sad and feel uncertain about Weeekly when she left.
      Sad thing about post-Jiyoon is that you haven't missed too much because after Ven Para they took a long hiatus before making only one comeback so far. They have another one coming out in a week and a bit.

    • @cloudchungxiao
      @cloudchungxiao  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Yea, that hiatus was wild because there was literally no reason that made sense as to why they threw them in it.

  • @yudhistiramahasena1255
    @yudhistiramahasena1255 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Allow me to give my thoughts as a Daileee and Swith.
    Everything seemed fine and dandy for both Weeekly and STAYC for most 2021. The neverending rivalry between both groups and their fandoms began. One had a cute, cheerful, suitable-for-all-ages concept, and the other has an unprecedented audio-visual experience known as the "teen fresh" concept. The debate went on for a long time, both Weeekly and STAYC were booming.
    But then in August 2021, Jiyoon had to go on hiatus due to an anxiety disorder, and returned in December that same year, only to go on hiatus again in February the following year. Meanwhile, STAYC was triumphant, with 3 music show wins for "Stereotype" and 6 for "Run2U", the latter of which directly rivaled "Ven Para".
    Then June 1, 2022 happened and Jiyoon had to call it quits with Weeekly. This tragedy crushed the group and it didn't help that IST Entertainment gave Weeekly a 19-month hiatus as a result. Effectively that meant STAYC beat Weeekly in terms of popularity, yet "Beautiful monster" didn't receive a positive reaction by many in the Swith community (for who knew what reason).
    It mattered, as Jiyoon was essentially the member who acted as Weeekly's "driver", just like the other six being her petrol. Her departure meant Soojin and the others *COULDN'T DO ANYTHING.* Sure they did go to Jakarta for some kind of charity concert or whatever, but they still didn't get to make a comeback as a result of the slump they had.
    This is so all Weeekly members had to find a way to regain the popularity that was lost from them after being beaten by STAYC; through survival show. Monday and Jaehee tried their luck in Girls' Reverse while the other 4 tried theirs in Queendom Puzzle. None of them made it to the final group, Feverse and EL7Z UP respectively. Meanwhile with their quality that made them *THE* biggest non-big 3, non-IVE 4th-gen girl group, STAYC didn't have to go to either one of those survival shows which was fine by us, the Swith community.
    STAYC kept their composure despite the negative reception they got for "Beautiful monster", though, with 4 wins for "Teddy bear" and 3 for "Bubble" last year. Weeekly didn't get any for "Vroom vroom", yet this comeback changed their fortunes for the better, as they managed to hold their first ever fanmeeting, after getting back up from their slump.
    In 2024, Weeekly and STAYC had a comeback in the exact same month, with "Lights on" and "Cheeky icy thang", respectively. It didn't go as well for their previous releases, though, as "CIT" is their worst-performing song on TH-cam, only having 11 million views, and it only had 1 measly win. Their latest song, "GPT", unless I'm mistaken, didn't get any wins. "Lights on" doesn't even get any wins at all.
    2024 is almost over, and there's nothing to wish for but that Weeekly and STAYC will have the time of their lives once again in 2025. And hopefully, Seeun and Jihan will become the MCs of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 in Basel, Switzerland. These young women are like the best public speakers of their respective groups.

    High up has better visions for STAYC compared to ist. When after school as well as asap was released both got decent amount of popularity which made the gp tuned into their next move STAYC proved to be the gg the public should look forward to by releasing stereotype which is one of their best title track whereas weeekly failed to do so and their hype slowly went down.
    In my opinion, they started with a fresh school girl type of concept and they should have sticked to that until they create a decent fanbase. Changing their concept was not a good move for the group. And also their management sucks.

    • @cloudchungxiao
      @cloudchungxiao  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

    From also what I heard before abt weeekly is that fans noticed how the promotion of weeekly just started getting bad, zigzag was poorly promoted and after school only got lucky to go viral on tiktok which solidified the fact how tiktok could be a useful tool in promoting songs. As I remembered from talking with dailees before, they noticed how the company was poorly promoting the group which I also do not understand why they would do this to the girls. I heard from some fans saying that they didnt feel the news of weeekly making a follow up after their viral hit, basically feeling how the company poorly promoted them 😢

    • @cloudchungxiao

    Ven para was a release that created some trauma in the minds of K-pop fans. Whenever a girl group threatens a concept change, they bring up this isolated case. The rule in K-pop has always been to change concepts every comeback, especially because smaller companies do not have in-house producers, the songs are purchased.
