- Ho-Oh is a gorgeous shiny in both 2nd Gen and 4th Gen. If I'm being brutally honest I prefer it more in 4th Gen but I wanted to complete the duo in the same generation and I may even hunt another in HeartGold some day, who knows! I really like the red in this game though!
I can't believe this shined so quickly. I very rarely get shinies this fast so it's a welcome change. My luck has been awful this year minus a few exceptions but we do what we do to find shinies! Sorry if my commentary isn't top-notch in this video. I really struggle to comprehensively put together a good video when something amazing happens like this, my brain just caves in on itself.

Sonikks my fastest hunt was phase for Masuda Method Treecko
not a hunt but encountered a shiny tangela on my third ecounter when trying to level my dragonite on soulsilver
full ods suicune in USUM, got it in only 30 encounters

Fastest hunt was my first Pokemon that I wanted as shiny a ralts and to complete I got it back to back (on masuda method) my second was a SOS hunt of alola grimmer the first grimmer call the second is shiny xD
if we're not counting the easy hunts in Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee, then my shortest hunt was Virizion in Ultra Sun. 402 encounters

Yeah, it’s pretty clear they had some favoritism towards Lugia while developing the game... he got a much more detailed sprite.
Ho-Oh looks like a regular bird Pokémon in the 2nd gen overworld 😑
I don't think that's correct. Ho-Oh is just a more difficult Pokémon to develop an overworld sprite for. Ho-Oh was originally a Generation 1 planned Pokémon don't forget and even the beta that was released last year didn't contain Lugia. Lugia was very much a late change.
Sonikks Well, that makes it even worse for them, cause if they had more time to invest in Ho-Oh sprite, they should’ve been able to make it look far better like with a bit colorful wings at least (keeping in mind the limitations of the early 2000s), but instead they settled with a lower quality sprite and didn’t even bother on improving it on Crystal.

I did a month long shiny hunt in heartgold before i got my shiny Ho-Oh. I literally cried a little one because the hunt was finally over and two because the shiny is so damn beautiful lol.

@@lightyagami3492 About 500; been going for a few weeks. So, not too long, but I'm taking a break to go for some Halloween hunts to boost my morale a little. My patience tends to run thin pretty quickly, so I take breaks now and then to try and keep that from happening.

Gen 2 is my all time favorite gen. I’ve played crystal more than any other Pokémon game, in fact I’m shiny hunting dratini right now in it. Hope you do more gen 2 in the future too!

So awesome for you!!! Fastest gen 2 hunt was hatching a shiny chinchou in 2 eggs. Fastest shiny soft reset for me was a ultra sun shiny Ho-Oh in 12 resets on complete accident. I was resetting just for giggles a few times and SURPRISE!! And no, I didn’t have the shiny charm. I did manage to film the catch.

This is why i love the reset option on vc. You can press for reset and look before you actually reset.
I had a Shiny Ho-oh in Gen 2 when I was a kid.
I didnt even know what a shiny was.
I thought had the shiny animation when I used it because thats just what Ho-oh did.
I didnt realize it was shiny until years later.
You just made me want to try to get shiny ho oh in heartgold even if i know it won't be so easy

Congrats! Ho-oh is such a fantastic shiny! Im going to hunt that next myself. Right now im hunting the snorlax in front of Diglett cave im over 16k and no shine yet. I was hearing that there was something weird with the female ratio on this gen with it being impossible for it to shine with a 12.5% ratio, I have a Jynx leading the party as I encounter the Snorlax, is that messing with the RNG as I soft reset my game? or is it just Snorlax itself can't be a shiny female.
Good luck. You're right in saying that female Pokémon in Gen 2 with a 12.5% ratio cannot be shiny. If you see some people hunt the starters for example in G/S/C VC they use the nickname screen to determine if it's female or not to save some time. You simply reset over the females.
Your current setup is fine. Jynx will not impact the RNG roll that determines the shiny. There are no abilities in Gen 2. Right now you're just worried because you're over 16k. It happens to all of us. Sometimes I wonder if I'm messing something up even though I have over 130 full odds shinies, lol. You'll get it eventually. Sometimes you'll go over double, triple maybe even quadruple odds if you're really unlucky. Just keep doing what you're doing and you'll get it eventually. Good luck!

Watched your video while shiny hunting ho-oh and exactly at 3:58 into the video I encountered one.
Guess I'm gonna get my Crystal file reset. I forgot that legendaries, if you kill them, don't respawn via beating E4 in Gen 2. I killed Suicune. So now I can't get my golden turkey unless I reset.

Wow, kind of jealous there. I've been hunting shiny Lugia in Silver (and Gold) VC. It took me months, but I managed to encounter it in the end. However, once I threw my Master Ball at it the game told me my box was full... Have been trying to hunt it on Silver, but the motivation was gone. It felt like sweet revenge once I caught shiny Lugia in Ultra Moon after quite a short hunt, though.
I’m hunting this now! Just completed my first ever shiny hunt through the breeding method and got a shiny bulbasaur on the very first egg hatched!
I just realized this but Ho-Ohs backsprite didn't change once from gen 2 all the way past gen 5 that is insane

XD Anyways in the future pokemon games a few months ago in march this past year 2019 , it only took me 76 soft resets to get Ho-oh in my Ultra Sub copy.(compared to the 3,987 soft resets to get Lugia in Ultra Moon that was easy XD, but i always thought lugia was a billion times more badass compared to Ho-oh i was never a fan of ho-oh just looked like a weaker fluffier version of Generation 1's bird trio Pokemon Moltress) but same here Broski XD After i got pokemon blue way back when i was like an 8 year old 90's kid at the time, i got for Christmas back then in 2000 of December Pokemon Silver back then (Along with other non related pokemon stuff like LEGO Star Wars since im a big Star wars fan lol , a Buzz light year toy story 2 figure Since that was when the first 2 toy story disney films came out and since i got a PS2 in 2000 when they first came out for Christmas the Kingdom Hearts one game lol goddamn i was hooked to that stuff like crack lmao oh and a portable electronic race car from the nick toons show back then the jimmy neutron ultra lord race car lol) now as a 30 year old adult with work and a job and more mature adult stuff responsibilities i gotta take care of as a solo man lol , i still will always have nostalgic feels as a 90s early 2000's kid Peace Sonikks and yeah bro keep doing some GSC shiny hunts last 2 shinies i got besides my shiny Uxie i got at like 1,584 SR's was mesperit and Azelf (but that was only in ultra moon last year the Mesperit was at like 5,600 something, and the Azelf was damn near 7,000 soft resets lol aka my favorite out of the group cause of its Dragon Ball Z Akira Toriyama years lol still gotta hunt the 3 musketeers aka Swords of Justice as shinies in ultra sun then gotta shiny hunt Mewtwo, Cresellia, Giratina(granted he is in Pokemon Go but i dont have irl friends so i can raid with people unless its in a big giant mall Airport or a Park,)then gotta shiny hunt Suicune, Kyreum, Latios, and the best shiny for that game (in my opinion) soft reset for Shiny Porygon or Shiny Surf pikachu in US Ultra sun lol peace)oh and shiny Landerous still gotta trade for a normal or shiny thunderous since i got the Tornadus took me like 776 soft rest for that one in Ultra sun

You know what's funny though? You panicked over almost hitting the reset button but I'm like 99% sure it asks if you're sure so even if you did accidentally hit it you would have most likely been safe because surely you hear the sparkle effect XD but I'm really happy you got this and I'm hoping mine goes relatively quick as well

Thank you! I record my DS capture card using OBS and then I edit in Premiere Pro. I used Sony Vegas for the longest time but I made the switch recently and I think my quality has improved tenfold.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it before, but using the touchscreen is actually a hard reset, and not a soft reset.

Incorrect, a hard reset is switching the console off entirely. It's a soft reset if you just reboot the game, which is what you do during this hunt or use the button combo.

@@Sonikks Actually, it's how the touchscreen works as a hard reset. Here is a great post that will inform much faster than I care to explain.

L Hooking up a "never-before-seen interface (the touch screen)" to the ancient game code is certainly possible, it's just pointlessly difficult. It becomes a hard reset.

A hard reset requires you to quite literally power down the console and power it up again which the VC reset button doesn't do. It does the exact same as a normal SR button combination in restoring the game to the title screen by-passing the need to turn the system off entirely.
It's splitting hairs but the terms dictate that it's just a simple SR regardless of what other things it may do under the hood. It's 100% not a hard reset though, that's for certain. Speedrunners also say the same thing as shiny hunters.
Just did the math, and assuming a 1/8192 shiny rate (and that I remember my stats class correctly), the odds of this occurring were slightly less than 10%. Congrats :)
