Great to hear an architect describe a project in a relaxed, conversational manner and talk about the client and their lifestyle, rather than 10 minutes of waffling BS archispeak.👍
The double height space, full of windows, with external shading for heat control and internal airy light diffusing shades, is what I see in my dreams when I see my dream house
I had to rewind when seeing the original home. I'd thought it had skipped to a different video! Masterful design. Incredible Masterpiece. Congratulations. A gift.
The difference between the bungalow and the addition is jarring. I wouldn't want to spend much time in the bungalow, knowing how amazing the addition is! The timber is so warm and organic. Perfect palette.
Nothing but envy from me. I too live backing onto parkland in the north west of Melbourne, out Keilor way, and I'd love to see this amazing architecture in my local area. Embracing the local environment through architecture. Love it.
I love this kind of architectural designs; not only because they radiate an atmosphere of authenticity and grandeur, but because they look so nice and warm. The kind of home you don't want to be away from for long. I have an Arco lamp from Barcelona Designs that would look great next to that sofa and become my favorite reading station. Uhmm just daydreaming...***
I think whoever came about with the concept of unnecesarily big mansions should be placed on a pike.I love the coziness of the house. Why would you choose a big extra mansion over this? The goal should be just enough space which is exquisitely done.
Looks great, but struggle to understand how it is passive solar if it is a light weight construction? With little thermal mass (concrete floor or a trombe wall) to store heat, there would be over reliance on active energy for heating and cooling. With so much window area this must present a negative value for thermal performance. I live in a home with double-glazing, and even so, I wish we installed triple glazing in our Melbourne home.

If you have that lower floor-higher floor void connection, your higher floor will be getting more heat in summer and you lower floor will be getting colder in winter. On top of that, noise from the living room will more easily find its way into bedrooms above. But hey, you can sell it as "really connecting 2 spaces" to buyers who don't know any better. Revisit them in a decade, see what they think about all these connections. :)
I have a pretty inexpensive air circulation system that easily prevents temperature stratification and I see the same vents in this house and it seems as though the bedrooms can be closed off from the noise by those nifty doors they showed us. But hey, people who don't know better can buy a different house. Bet most people would be happy there in a decade.
@@slickmcCool If that's the case, I'm happy to stand corrected. But I'm industrial designer, not an architect, my brain works a bit differently - why create systems to fix some faulty design, when you can create good design in the first place?
@@0631ix it happens in every home. There are other considerations than air flow when designing a house. Many other reasons. My house is well enough sealed that I need an air circulation system. And you would need to explain what you mean by good design? How well something is designed is dependent upon the desired outcome I would think. It would be useless for me to have a house thats quiet and even temperatured; but not be useful or attractive to me.
How I know I should get off TH-cam and go to bed... I start completely misreading titles. I don't know how, but I misred "Biophilic" as "Bibliophilic". I thought I was going to see a house full of books. lol
I am sure this fitted their taste and aesthetic and I appreciate what has been done here. But not for me…. This house would be a nightmare to keep clean and I think it will look ‘junky’ in a short space of time.

This is ridiculously gorgeous. I'm in love with everything this home is and very envious of its owners.

This is truly beautiful. You have captured the light and timber and contrast between elements really well.

Timber and concrete made simple can bring a sense of appealing to a home.
It's very beautiful and sustainable.
Increíble distribución combinación de materiales súper abierto genial…!!!
Nice house! That's what I called living in harmony with nature.
It sure is!
Beautiful eco friendly home,Love the pantry and bedroom.

Looking for bio and permaculture inspirations for a concrete open floor in Portugal. Glad I've stumbled upon this.
Beautiful design.
This house is amazing!
Stunning

Any chance of getting detail about what equipment was used for electric hydronic?
Probably air to water heat pumps. Companies like Stiebel Eltron, Wolf, LG and Glen Dimplex system M all manufacture them.
Nice!
Really want to know how much a project like this cost
the color/texture palette, forms, flexibility... is it possible to drool over this?

Who else spotted the Harry Potter books instantly and thought 'Well, another reason to like this family!' haha

Wth is a 'California bungalow'? Asking from California.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/California_bungalow
Is an eco house made with a lot of wood?
Wood is a sustainable building material.
28 / 5.000
Use it less and replant more.

There’s always some new “brand name” for styles of architecture, but “biophilic”??
Biophillic is a philosophy, not a style.

to much of the same finish on the wood, needs to be broken up with a different colour otherwise beautiful house

Those wood-stoves are not Eco-friendly.
