- In a groundbreaking collaboration, McLaren Automotive and the LEGO Group have created a life-size, drivable replica of the iconic McLaren P1™, made entirely from LEGO Technic elements.
This unique vehicle, crafted with an impressive 342,817 pieces, was put to the test by McLaren Formula 1 driver Lando Norris as he completed a thrilling lap around the historic Silverstone Circuit.
The life-size LEGO Technic McLaren P1™ weighs approximately 1,220 kg and features fully functional steering, marking a first for LEGO big builds that allows a model to navigate corners on a racetrack. This extraordinary creation was the result of 8,344 hours of hard work by a dedicated team of 23 specialists from both the LEGO and McLaren teams.
It is powered by an electric motor comprised of LEGO Technic Function batteries and features eight motor packs, each made up of 96 LEGO Power Function motors. In total, the vehicle showcases 768 LEGO motors that emulate the performance of the original McLaren P1™ V8 engine.

Knowing Lego, releasing this as a set would cost twice as much as an actual P1
true
i feel like thats personal
@@cobratunerit may also costed 1.4x more expensive than Koenigsegg Gemera.
Minimum maybe three times
Knowing Brickmania, releasing this set would cost as much as McLaren Group itself.
Now we need a f1 car build from Lego🏎
They did in Singapore in 2022, but for display only.
They need some insanely strong super glue for the lego to not break at the high speeds
The crashes would be epic!
2012. 2021 and 2024 builds 🫡
If it drove anything like this clip it would give Sauber and Renault a run for there money.
what we need is a full lap uncut
So someone can use the data to make Assetto Corsa mod lol
he would've driven it pretty slow, considering it literally is just a one(the only) big toy car... the editing just makes it seem fast
@@Oxytocin_NA You can see the wing mirror about to snap off from how fast he's going.
@@33smimu the fact that a part of a lego build is about to snap off doesn't mean it was driving fast. It equally could mean it wasn't very reliable. Editors for sure did a great job to trick our perceptions. Would love to see the unedited lap as well. 1:43-1:48 gives a bit of a feeling he was driving rather slow really, maybe around 5 mph, especially when the car with the camera is visible.
@@divirusp Never said he was going fast, only that it was sufficiently fast for the Lego to be flexing.
A functioning LEGO CAR is not something I was expecting this year.
50 years ago they said we would have flying cars, sike we have a LEGO car
TBF, its not like a LEGO car is something that's never been done before. But this is still insanely immpressive
I’m pretty sure they made a Bugatti Chiron from lego
Gentlemen, a short view back into the pasr
@@8bit_George for display only
no regrets lmfao
*What they think you do at LEGO:* "Hey, that's a cool idea for a LEGO set!"
*Lando Norris:* "You. Me. McLaren x LEGO. We will take over the automobile industry!"
This needs to be longer than a 3 min vid. Let us see the process, the power supply, more assembly. This is insane.
Exactly, if it hadnt been for the short video description I would have assumed that it had some non-lego engine - albeit some small electric one. And what about the chassi? We were given much more insight on the Bugatti project.
probably a longer video would have exposed all the non lego parts in this car
Lando probably didn't imagine that he would drive LEGO McLaren supercar 😊❤😂
Great project
hypercar*
Is it a great project?😂
Hey that's the "We put a normal person in an F1 car" guy!
I was thinking the same thing! 🤣
Heard about this on the Behind The Glass podcast, what an amazing effort! The engineering effort that went into this is mindbending
So to give some context. The max speed for the lap was 30mph. And the lego pieces were built over a reinforced chassis and frame so its really only a fancy bodykit. Beyond that the lego pieces were all special ordered and bonded together using a solvent that literally melts and welds the pieces together.
Yes this presentation was insanely cynical and off-putting, edited to mislead, which by the comments clearly it has. I feel bad for anyone expecting more of this build than a body-kit, seems like a lot of people. Galaxy-brained marketing, and rich guys blowing resources.
Still cool af 😎 would have been cooler to see a push lap
@oxonomy2372it's just an electric car with Lego glued on it. So dumb
@@Nereosis16 the fun would be watching the glue try to hold on a push lap
So over hype for the same ole internet garbage
We NEED a behind the scenes build on this. Would make such a good series.
THIS NEEDS TO BE A LONGER VIDEO! I WOULDN'T MIND AN HOUR OF IT!
I'm so proud of the people who built it.
Show more about the powertrain!!!
it's probably just an electric motor and a battery just largely enough to go 8 miles maybe
wait a battery that goes 8 miles sounds like a normal P1 lol
@@TheImperfectGuyYou can hear engine noises in the video though. Were they edited in then?
@@Anonymous_0894 wouldn't be the first car getting inaccurate noises edited into on an official promo video
though I'll admit I dont know McLaren Automotive's history on that
@@Anonymous_0894 Surely if it was a combustion engine the lego would melt

What an awesome creative project. Wish they release more tech specs like speed and such. Great job McLaren your branding is everywhere this season!

I'm glad they didn't forget their iconic blue pins. Lego wouldn't be Lego without them.
That's why I love McLaren, it's unique in every way.❤
Now make a completely see through car, where you can see all the engine, the seats and when the driver gets in and drives, it would look so cool going around the track
they put more effort in this video than in sets the consumer is supposed to buy in the last 15 years combined.
Tavarish might want to watch...
LOL. I was just coming to say this!
agreed. I feel like Freddie missed an opportunity here ahaha
Would love if there was a follow up video going way more into detail abouth the building process and the building techniques used.
Espicially about the suspension or even the powertrain
Dad: where's all my lego gone? Ah, well, there is a race this weekend and we might need some spare parts....
LEGO Brick Livery, when?
Having the car look like it's made out of actual Lego on a race weekend would be mental.
With Lando and Oscar's helmets looking like a Lego head, and the gloves looking like Lego Hands..
Fellas.. the idea is right there.
This was just a McLaren chassis covered in LEGO for everything else.
3 things i loved 35 years ago, F1, McLaren and Lego
Great to see Seen Through Glass and an epic Lego and McLaren colab 🤩
The P1 is still my dream car till this day!
fr tho
In the next Silverstone race (regardless of series/formula) some engineer trying to fix a puncture will pluck out a Lego from inside a tyre.
0:15 I thought that was Max for a second
Lol me too 😂
That guy doesn't look nearly as sociopathic.
@@adem1781he meant the voice
@@tklyfe Ah not the sociopathic look or behaviour 😅 Was gonna say this guy looks like a really nice dude would be _awful_ to think he was actually Max.
Anyone else notice they kept replaying the exact same engine sound over and over?😂
So freaking weird. They say it has Lego motors in it so why would it make the sound of a combustion engine? This whole video is extremely misleading and makes me question the whole thing.
Honestly, I don't believe they did anything but put a lgo body on a p1 frame with just the electric motor and no combustion engine.
If you are telling the truth then why lie?
Now we need a Lego Lando Norrish😌
Man they need to show how they made this. Its bonkers! I cant understand how the lego pieces are able to withstand all that head. Mad mad stuff.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY MASTERPIECE
it's a work of art and sport
Now we need lego car race
Two of my most favorite things to collab is a dream come true ❤❤❤🎉🎉
So this is how they make their front wing flex!
First a bugatti and now a p1?!? After these many years 😭
Well amazing ❤
I have a feeling this video will blow up in the future with lando norris' promising future and the p1 successor on the line, this video will become something like a micheal schumacher with a ferrari enzo. something nice to come back to.
i would love to see the entire building process of this and figuring out how to actually make soemthing like this
Skvělá práce českých techniků, dobrá práce kluci
"I dont want a lot for Christmas there is just one thing i need " ahhh song
I remember when i saw a LEGO chiron in a newspaper even when that publisher barely printed about hypercars once when i was a kid, this also going to be lodged for one of the most hilarious creations in history
i like how they speed up the footage because in reality the car is only going like 5 MPH
Came here to say this
5 mph at best
Nah man i read somewhere that it can go around 60 kilometres per hour
It also makes combustion engine sounds but it's an electric car with Lego motors? None of this adds up.
Bruh we want to see him in an Actual P1 onboard lap
please build a second one so oscar and lando can race and bump into each other with legos
Amazing🔥🔥
The music and stuff is so dramatic at the beginning like this is super serious and it needs to work... buddy its legos 😂
i can already imagine what sound it would make when it crashes 😂
Lando dare to drive this car ,just insane !!
Lando Norris is the best
Cool stuff! Love these full size Lego Technic builds like this! 🙌👍
We have a drivable lego care before GTA 6.
Dope idea, and my favourite driver 🧡😊
*slightly touches the curb
*car disintegrates
It’s not Lando Norris, it’s Lego Norris now
No way, this is so cool!!!🥺🥺
Thats the reason why LEGO is so much expansiv^^
Please show a full onboard lap
Lego a few years later: We built our life size saturn v and flew to the moon with it.
Okay now i wait for you to release the set out to the public.
Wow, the car looks cool, I like it 👏
I wish there had been more detail about the chassis and power train - that did look like a P1 wheel and dash so did they just take the body off a P1 and replace it with a lego body? That's incredibly impressive but again, more details please! I see the brake calipers look to be lego - again I assume those are just visual covers of the real calipers....
we need more detail! pls
i would assume its a carbon tub with lego built around it, looks like he isn't wearing a seat belt either so it's very slow
The chassis (plus suspention) is a p1 ,the tub is made of carbon fiber ,and the rest is lego ,the drivetrain (including hundreds of lego e motors) , the body work, the full interior plus floor seats and dash, basically everything. The wing also.
So the only things that are the actual thing is ,the chassis (you have to have that), suspention and the carbon fibre tub that's it.
The brakes shown are not functional. The calipers are Lego, and so are the rotors as well.
@@nerfgodbigguy1405he did specifically say the used no carbon fiber. But maybe was only talking about the body
Mega SUPER AWESOME Congratulations to all 😎😂✌🖖👽
We got Lando Driving a lego car before gta 6
it feels like a minifigure 🗣🗣🔥🔥
remember bois: you can build this with ANY brand of bricks, it does not have to be LEGO™
Im like REALLY interested in knowing what kind of engine and brakes they used to get this thing moving but not melt it at the same time.
I think this is another level, the world's of records
the car is probably fast as alpine in formula 1
Me: "Son! You need to ask this for Christmas from mom!!!"
McLaren looked at Forza Horizon 4 and went: *_"Yeah, yeah I can do that."_*
Cool idea and unbelievable work done. Amazing.
Wow, no lag? The computer must be pretty good lmao
I still can’t believe McLaren made Lando give first position back to his teammate knowing he needed them extra points to beat Max
They're gonna be stepping on Lego pieces at McLaren HQ for years to come
I swear this is within FIA regulations ...
Wrong; too innovative, banned.
@@CatWithAOpinion💀⚰️☠️💀 couldn't he truer
not safe enough, needs a crash detection system
I heard someone say there is no better advertising for a UBI than an F1 paddock... they are doing no favors in my mind to dispel that with this lol
Bro imagine crashing with that
Unbelievable Project....
Masterpiece 🔥
All that hard work just for them to show a few seconds
Proud to be from 🇨🇿! W CZ
What would the aerodynamics be on this thing? The spaces where pins connect would suck in air, but I'm not sure if that'll help in cooling or just increase drag. But the fact that it looked like no piece fell off, is so impressive.
"It has better quality control than the real thing"
This is amazing!
That’s some fun coolness right there!
P1 Speed champions when?!
Lego technic engineers from Czech Republic 😎
Me: Mom can I have a Mclaren?
Mom: We have a Mclaren at home.
Mclaren at home:
I'm assuming that steering wheel and dashboard are off the shelf Lego Technic parts that you can buy also, along with the battery that's powering it too. love how they edited engine noises in this clip, there is not an ounce of combustion in that thing. the footage was also significantly sped up as this thing probably goes a max speed of 10mph before it starts to shred itself to bits 🤔
Apparently it can do 40mph! But yeah, no combustion and lots of editing
got me bricked up
I got a Williams-Duracell ad for watching this video
We got working life sized Lego gars before GTA VI
This should surely be a longer video
Dad: what you want for Christmas?
Me asf :
Bit more details of what went in would have been nice.
This is SOOO cool
When will the LEGO Technic set be released?
What parts where lego? The weels and steering weel where not made of lego ofcourse, but I also wonder how much under the chassis was made fom lego... still very cool but I whould like to see a bit more details
Guys our attention spans can take more than 3 minutes
