The Adventures of Pinocchio, Italian title Le Avventure di Pinocchio: Storia di un Burattino (“The Adventures of Pinocchio: The Story of a Puppet”) is a classic children’s novel written by Carlo Collodi published in 1883. It tells the story of the little marionette who wants to be a real boy, and provided the inspiration for Alexander Litvinovsky's latest Suite for String Orchestra and Mandolin.
Composer Alexander Litvinovsky was born in Minsk in 1962. He graduated from the State Music College (1982) as a musicologist, from the Belarusian State Academy of Music in the class of composition under Prof. Dmitry Smolsky (1987) and received a post-graduate degree there (1991). He took part in workshops under the guidance of Jonathan Harvey and Michael Nyman (Great Britain), Louis Andriessen (Holland), Martin Bresnick (USA), Sylvano Bussotti (Italy), Tristan Murail and Fransois-Bernard Mache (France). As a composer he writes in various genres: from chamber, choral and symphonic music to electro-acoustic art. The creative concept: from tradition to avant-garde. Alexander's music has been presented at various festivals and concerts around Europe and USA.

Alexander Litvinovsky's style is unique and an intriguing, enjoyable branch within the classical music 🎶 🎧 tradition.
Just as I was thinking I had loved the music of Litvinovsky more than I ever could, he comes out with an entire suite dedicated to a beloved Italian folk story that is simply amazing. Not only is the story of Pinocchio a classic joy, but the music that is set to it does perfect justice to the wonder of the folk story. I love the addition of the mandolin; it has a very Italian-folk sound to it (which, naturally, makes perfect sense). I love this music all the more for this. Thank you Halidon and Litvinovsky!
