Hey, BVB fan here thought I'd check what Celtic fans thought about this game because we've been here too just 2 matches ago. I agree with a lot of what you're saying, but I think 2 things proved themselves evident tonight: We have young players like Karim who are maturing and patching those previous weak points, and obviously Sahin is a new manager finding his feet and style. Still, this is one game and as Müller said next game starts at 0-0. God knows we've had our low-points and moments of frustration but have faith in your club and I'm sure those good days will come to you sooner than you think!
Thanks for taking the time, but that is possibly the biggest hammering I’ve seen Celtic take. The narrative seems to be Dortmund scored every chance, I recall about 4 sitters missed. Our wingers should have been told to come back 30 yards to help midfield at 3 or 4-1.
Reality check for Celtic in last 5 years have not beat one team that they were big underdogs for and shows what strong ref does as if that’s Sunday Celtic don’t concede those 2 as ref would bottle it
Celtic's tactics were suicidal. They were far too open and borussia ruthlessly exploited this. You can't give Adeyemi or Gittens this sort of space. There were basic mistakes that led to several of borussia's goals. 7-1 was an accurate reflection of the play. Borussia were excellent and Celtic were shocking.
Not Closing down space. Not keeping it tight and compact in midfield and gaps in press allowing Dortmund's electric pace to pour through the gaping spaces. Dortmund are good but don't big them up too much. This scoreline was down to Celtic's organisation. Not the best use of Celtic's strengths and awareness of our weaknesses.
As a Dortmund fan, I didn't expect such a result, I thought Celtic would be much stronger. But there are just days like that. BVB did everything right, Celtic simply made too many mistakes. To be honest, it could have gone even higher. About the penalties: Well, you don't necessarily have to give them. But your penalty against Slovan just as little. 😉 I wish you all the best. Beat Leipzig and come back to Dortmund any time!
The worrying thing for me is that Rodgers was asked if upon reflection he would do anything different and he said "not really", will the penny ever drop...
@@theunderwatercabbagesalesman Even Lennon tried to change formations in the COVID season. Doing the same thing over again and expecting a different outcome is daft. What we do in most games is perfect for us, however not against elite opposition. Why should we change against lesser teams - we have to score goals. In the end 6 of the goals were individual errors, not brought on by anything organisationally, same as when we normally get beat. We also lack the players to play a 451, and tighten up - we don't possess a single DM in the squad, for example.
Rodgers is bang on the money with his pre and post match comments. He mentioned before the match about mentality being as important as technical ability. The players bottled it again under pressure, and that seems to happen whover the manager is. Every individual mistake punished, yet if Celtic go there and have 47% possession, score a goal, create 2 or 3 others, but lose 3-1, we're all relatively content with that. Take out the individual errors and that would have been the outcome.
Enda spot on. We looked like we were playing with only 10 men. Kyogo was anonymous as we couldn't get the ball past the midfield. Playing those triangles isn't going to work against top quality opposition. We need to mix it up...play the odd ball over the top, out wide or get one of the midfielder's to carry it and draw fouls in their half. Otherwise we've got no chance
“The Huns beat them in 2022…..” Yes but they didn’t even attempt going toe to toe with them. They accepted Dortmund have better players and tailored their game plan accordingly. Celtic’s approach last night was naive bordering on outright farcical
The games aren't comparable, that was literally Dortmunds worst season in the last 10 years and it was in a lower level comp in which their best players didn't play.
@@lf67hh28 BVB were in the CL the year Rangers beat them after dropping down to the Europa league. Jude B played for them amongst many others even Martin O’Neil said rangers faced a stronger BVB side.
I don't know where this "elite manager" patter comes from. His biggest achievement is the Scottish league and routinely ships six and seven goals in Europe.
Transfermarkt squad valuations at the UCL draw: RB Leipzig @home. 517.13m v 106.75m Borussia Dortmund away 471.6m v 106.75m Atalanta away. 434.1m v 106.75m Villa away 609.95 v 106.75m ...we shouldn't measure ourselves against these teams, hope for results, don't expect them. Slovan Bratislava, Young Boys, Club Brugge (has a wee bit more but not a lot), Dinamo Zagreb on the other hand, if we don't beat teams in our own squad value bracket, then I would judge our squad and/or manager. The team learns from testing our approach on better opponents. It is how you develop your game, changing the approach sends the wrong messages to the champs, the message is 'It isn't that you are not fully developed, it is you'll never be good enough'. The differences people are talking about are the lessons we can learn and use to adapt the current approach. I don't think the team did badly, it's just about levels. You play against St Johnstone you look good, you play against a team levels above St Johnstone... maybe the level that looks good against the saints doesn't look good against Dortmund. Our team is young and has growth, if they handle this defeat well, this will develop them. They have 15 players 15-40m euros and like five 40m euro players! Thanks for the calmer response, the Celtic Fans TV guys in Germany's rage was hard to listen to. HH
Rogers needs to wise up with his tactics in Europe and set out the team more defensively. Dortmund were different class but we contributed to our own downfall by going full gung ho against one of the best teams in Europe which in my opinion was absolute madness. As for the players with you guys that I agree that Taylor wasn't 100% fit in fact I don't think he was even 80% but some of the performances were shocking though I do think Scales played better than most and Daizen at least gave it a shot and provided our only fleeting moment of happiness with the goal . However , make no mistake last night was a major wake up call, and if we play like that against Atalanta, we're in for yet another very uncomfortable night 🏴
Devastatingly bad result on the back of great optimism, a lot of Celtic pundits were saying even before if we got beat it would be great if we put up a great fight and show that we can at least compete at this level , the Bratislava result never made us a good team, and this result doesn’t make us a bad team , the mark of a good team will be if they rise to the next big challenge and take something from it , this game is now history!
BR acting like a novice. Slavia Prague, similar to Celtic in their league set up to deny space and counter attack with pace. We have the players for this and gives us a chance. With BR not willing to change, this will happen again.
Lot of people are saying we missed CV he has missed out in half the champions league games we've played and missed a few games against Rangers too. He misses too many big games , what's your thoughts on that .
Suicide to play like that and if we do it again in Bergamo we'll be pumped again -the damage is done -mentally we'll crumble again and not qualify if we dont get a draw at Atalanta if we play that open..Look at Calmac's face in the warm up huddle -he looked so nervous -like a man who knew it was suicidal to go toe to toe with that calibre of opposition and he was woeful by his standards. We freeze after they go 2-1 ahead and literally can't make basic passes and make basic errors..Same old story -O'Neill, Strachan and Lennon in had pragmatism in.Europe -Rodgers is too stubborn as his interview proved -why can't we park the bus and play Maeda up top in Bergamo, he'll track back to? With our record for years we haven't earnt the right to play in that way
To put it simply, for the past 20 years we’ve been nothing but flat track bullies. Every season without fail we bum ourselves up after hammering some diddy in Scotland only for every single player in the team to embarrass themselves against the big boys. We’re no longer a serious club, or a force to be feared in Europe. That’s the sad reality, it’ll never change again
In the first half Dortmund had 5 upfront when they attacked against 4 defenders. Our right and left backs were at 6s and 7s and didn’t stand a chance, getting dragged in to the centre to track runs, then the wingers coming in behind them. We should have played 5-4-1 with Maeda using his pace up front on his own then soak up the pressure and hit on the counter.. we gave them far to much space and were destroyed because we couldn’t adapt to their attacking formation. Giving the ball away in tight situations didn’t help us either but Adeyemi. What a player he is. I would give Daizen and Scales and maybe Johnston pass marks. Dortmund are a top top side and they will go all the way in this tournament. We’ve got a lot to learn at this level..
Against these calibre of teams the full backs simply cannot be dropping into midfield as this is why there was so much space for Dortmund to exploit, we need to be so much tighter and compact, then if we have our opportunities to play a bit then do so
We have to play to our players strengths, if you want that style ( which would keep score down, I agree) we need to buy players that fit that style. That means less attractive football week in week out. Every action has a reaction. We can't have everything
Genuniunly sorry for the result i support Celtic of any Scottish team in Europe but i am a Rangers Fan. Im serious.. good luck in the rest of your group games Bhoys. Unlucky the night thsts all.
A few pragmatic steps could have reduced the deficit by three or four goals. But the manager is unwilling to adapt. Thankfully the new format gives us some games where we might get away with Rodgers' tactics, but there will be a few sore ones to come. Unfortunately there's no convincing him to adopt a sensible approach.
Good morning, Hamish. I'm still absolutely furious about the result but for me it's quite simple we don't have the quality to compete against the big boys in the CL. If we're honest with ourselves, we will struggle against the top teams in the EL also. We just have to draw a line under it and go again. Away from home, we need to be so much more pragmatic in the way we set up and not think that we can outplay teams that are so much better than us. Bring on Ross County. HH. 🍀🍀🍀
We equalized too -and instead of trying tighten up for 10 or 15 minutes we're sloppy within seconds and behind again..This is a combination of suicidal tactics against A or B+ if you like oppositiin and players realizing so within minutes and mentally falling apart because no plan B and Celtic then looking a farce and we'll revert to it's Scottish football, our players aren't good enough etc etc -we were always likely to lose last night but invited a scudding as opposed to trying to nab a draw or not suffer a demoralizing defeat and that has to be at the manager's door -there's an ego with Brendan that prevents him from changing approach for european football -i'd hoped he'd changed but after last night it looks like he hasn't and will take us to another shameful doing in Bergamo. Bernardo getting pelters but Calmac, Kuhn, Engels, Taylor, AJ to slightly lesser extent were equally poor which tells a story -Trusty too earlly to judge, Scales played commendably, Valle showed ok too, Kyogo had zero service, Hatate did couple decent things and actually Yang did too but all that papering over cracks -the tactics were suicidal -we're Europa League team as are all the teams outwith Real, Barca, Atletico, the Italian, German, English teams and PSG and arguably 1 or 2 more and out of that how many can actually win it? The CL is 3 or 4 stratas in one and personally im bored of it..The game is in a malaise because of the wealth disparity
Great game for each and every celtic player to be involved in,..the bitterness of this medicine will most definitely have great benefits for all involved, “it’s amazing what something like this can actually do to the mind without a word been spoken,. *On the night celtic never s**t themselves Never parked the bus* So for the sake of SCOTTISH FOOTBALL I say the very best of luck to celtic going forward
Greg Taylor standing in the centre circle whilst the RB stood right on the line … GT ain’t good enough to defend against one top player never mind two .. when he is 20 metres out of position
Totally outclassed , every mistake punished. Those fans moaning about Brendan not changing his tactics, are probably the same group that thought pre-season was a great way to play top teams.. We can't afford to buy 4-5 players that are defensive for Euro games, when week in week out we don't need that type of player . We have to pick a style & go all in with the limited money we have . Yes defensive tactics would help, but do you want to watch that style week in week out.. we know most don't. It's never as black / white as you think
So poor from celtic but tactically celtic should have been more defensive. Tge finishing from dortmund was top class though and the second penalty illustrated everything wrong with football in modern times.
Brendan will need to tighten up against Atalanta because believe it or not atalanta are far more relentless without the ball so it will be another pumping if its a rinse, repeat performance!
Being honest it could have been double figures but for big Kaspar, and other than that you could only say that Daizen got pass marks. There's never a plan B in Europe... Why not send a defensive team out? You cant play the top 20-30 teams in Europe like this, it's Naïve
What was wrong with playing a 4-5-1 ? We were over-run in midfield from as early as the 2nd minute to such an extent that >>> *every time Dortmund attacked - invariably after a Celtic midfielder gifted them the ball via a badly misguided pass >> they were free to go up the pitch, in numbers, and either score, get a penalty, a corner or Schmeichel pulled off a great save*
Rodgers will not play any other way, against quality teams you need to set up defensively, 4,5,1 or 4,2,3,1. this won't be last humbling if he sticks with his favoured formation.
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. On that basis Rodger’s philosophy in Europe is insane. He set the team up to play against Dortmund exactly as he did in Perth at the weekend. The only surprise was that they didn’t score double figures!
We were not bad by our standards, we just got pumped by a better team. We attacked like we do in the league back home and were exposed at the back - A back that never gets challenged domestically. yeh cannae dae that with teams like that.
Good analysis, felt sorry for the result just because of tactical naivety but to name Julian Brandt „the best German number ten in the last decade“ is simply surreal or insane for almost every German hearing it😂
Surely if your philosophy is to defend from the front and your front line aren’t getting a touch then you drop deep to absorb the pressure? Emre Can was made to look like a Ballon Dor contender last night, all because we couldn’t get out of our own half.
You can’t play 4-3-3 against last years runners up. Should have played 5-4-1. Rodger’s being ex Liverpool should have known that. To the board we need better quality defenders.
would be amazing if fan media could ask Rodgers why he choose to play the midfield the way he did, just to hear what he has to say. Im sure hes aware of Dortmunds midfield and im sure he knows that Calmac is not going to be enough as a lone 6. He also knows that Engels used to play further back, say 6-8 the entire last year in Bundesliga. So why did he still do it? While we are not on the quality of Dortmund ofcourse and we made plenty mistakes, their style is really difficult for us. If nothing else Atalanta plays in a different way. We might still lose but I think it'll look different.
The space between our 2 centre backs and full backs las night was nuts, full backs far to high , it's like they though this was an easy night v Morton at Cappielow, it looked like Dormund had 14 players on that pitch and we had 6, all their players close to each other every one of ours miles apart.... gott sort that for Bergamo
I love Bernardo but I think this was a lesson to us all that Reo needs to play in our midfield. He is the one who can turn and ping the ball into space for Maeda and Khun to run onto. I get that he gives it away a lot but for me that only happens because normally teams have the bus parked in SPL, I don't think he would give it away as much in Europe. For me against Atalanta we need to have CalMac and Engles sitting a bit deeper and more disciplined with Reo just ahead. I think it is also time for Valle to have a run in the team. Not because I don't like GT but let's see what Valle has got, if not now then when.
Scottish football is on a freefall. With the shocking UEFA coefficient and the highest score of the past 5 year cycle dropping off this year, Scottish SPL champions will only qualify for 2nd play-off spot. Without Champions League money, Celtic will slide down to Rangers level and SPL teams will be lucky to qualify for regular Europa comp.
We can't replicate it away because you can't play the same way away at Borussia Dortmund as you do at home to Slovan Bratislava -the magnitude of last night will likely have done terminal damage to our CL hopes this season -deja vu. Why do we want to qualify to likely play a big big gun amd play so cavalier and be slaughtered
At a bit of a loss this morning as to why exactly Brendan Rodgers even came back to go through this routine again without any sort of willingness to change. Feel a bit hoodwinked by his confidence and demeanour around this CL campaign, to then serve up the worst result and performance we've seen yet. Thought the captain was absolutely appalling last night. It's the elephant in the room he is simply nowhere near it at this level, especially in holding midfield. No one seeming to have the balls to call out the fact he was never anywhere to be seen while Brandt was picking up the ball every minute with time and space aplenty to pick his next pass or action. In fact it wasn't just Brandt jogging past him with and without the ball time after time. On an obscene amount of money for someone who is a liability in these games.
He needs a holding midfielder next to him at this level. He’s proven over the years that he’s a fantastic footballer. Had a very bad night last night even on the ball which isn’t like him. He’s usually very brave on the ball taking it in areas most don’t like to show for it…Need to invest in a powerful and athletic number 6 to play alongside him in games like last night…easy to blame him for Brandt when he was being left 3 on 1 the minute our half hearted press was beaten
its the same every year .. yall whip yourselves up into a frenzy of expectation only to be crushed by reality..... i didnt expect 7,,, maybe 5 but not 7.... yet again were shown the "GULF" between scots fitba and the real thing. the "top" leagues are light years ahead .. they got there by playing "TOP" quality opposition week in week out.. the speed of their game is far superior.....By speed i dont mean maeda speed.. i mean speed of thought /mind process. that only comes from playing /practising against quicker thinking opponents... scots fitba was ruined in the 70s/80s by neanderthal coaches who thought chasing bairns up n down sand hills while screaming at them, was better than giving them a ball and letting them play... dont get me wrong, scots fiba is "evolving",,,,, but so are the others .......................................
Here it was disappointing but we moved on and hopefully be wiser for it. 3 out of 6 points so far which is what we should have expected. One thing in particular I was disappointed with was Callum McGregor, for the first time I can remember he wasn't just bad, but there was several occasions in the first half and early second half that he purposely didn't make himself available for a pass, didn't make space, was strange to see him not creating space and an available out ball for someone being closed down. He made a few stray passes and genuinely looked rattled and seemed like he didn't want the ball. So strange to see from him. Scales was our best player. Two pens is an easy lesson to learn, just to try to figure out preventing the other 5 😂🤦🏻♂️
As long as we try to go toe to toe with teams that are far superior to us, this will continue to happen. I was convinced we would be compact and try to counter Dortmund. We've got the pace up top to cause them problems. Within 2 mins, one of my mates had said this could potentially be a disaster because he'd noticed our back line was 10 yards into Dortmund's half, that's absolute lunacy. Rodgers needs to drop the ego and realise when we come up against better teams, our intensity isn't going to measure up.
Engels and Bernardo pressed high with front 3 leaving space in behind which Dortmund exposed easily,Brandt was very clever,we played so disjointed, like 2 five a side teams, the spaces in between was horrendous
Celtic took some massive scalps years ago in champs league , they are loaded and should at least be competing better than they have been it’s not looking good , good squad and good players they should be doing better than that
Wasn't expecting anything last night but at least compete then it's improvement but we have learnt nothing from last season and previous CL away games Groundhog Day
If we parked the Bus and lost 2-0, people would be screaming that we went away from the tactics we’ve been using all year. The reality is that no Celtic player would start for BVB. I’m not discouraged. If we take care of business at home, we will progress.
Celtic were badly exposed by a far superior team. Rodgers was also exposed tactically. It was apparent 20 minutes in that Dortmund were walking through Celtics midfield and defence. That was the time to change things, not 60 minutes gone. You'd hardly have known Kyogo was playing until he was subbed. No pass marks for anyone.
The only positives to take sre that we won a lot of fouls/free kicks, especially Engels. The only problem was that they were in our own half. We need to win these in opposition half in next games
Dortmund 2.64 XG is curious. They had 2 penalties, which accounts for 2 of that. so the other 5 goals were from ~0.64 XG. As Brendan said, everything just went in. We really got punished.
You played against last year's CL finalist. It's not a shame to lose, even with a 7-1 score It wasn't a game on equal terms, and that wasn't to be expected
Top job. Yer man needs to clean his specs. We didn't just "play badly in a game that would otherwise have been 3-1". We were rank-rotten, we were outlclassed in every department, none more so than the management department, thinking we can play against Dortmund the same way we play against Ross County. That's Rodgers' latest seven-goal spanking in Europe. He has learned nothing. We need a new manager for Europe (we can win in Scotland with any manager).
I don't know why you think we can get 10 points Hamish, based on what? We've got no CL or European pedigree for over 20 years since we got to Seville and some of our support have got us through the group. Last night proved that we're still light years off doing anything at this level, we're an excellent SPFL side but we're also rans as far as the CL goes. I don't know if it's a naivety or a mental thing but whatever it is we're not even close to resolving it. We played like or were made to look like a pub team last night and that's maybe being unfair on a pub team, that performance was appalling that's the only way to describe it. Brendan has to take a lot of responsibility for that as at 3-1 down he should've altered the team's shape because doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result was madness. We go to Atalanta in three weeks and they're all out attack and if we play that way again it could be well into double figures the size of the defeat we receive. I know we weren't expecting anything from Dortmund or Atalanta but there's a way to set up and try to keep the result respectable and last night wasn't it. I know people will say we're handicapped by finances but when the players cross that white line it's eleven versus eleven but the way we capitulated last night was unacceptable and embarrassing and if we keep getting pulverised in Europe is there even any point turning up. We found out our level last night and it proves we're light years away from being a challenge to any European side of quality.
Its called being over-ambitious and over-confident. I thought that Neil Lennon had found the right balance of team shape and tactics to compete in Europe when we played Lazio. It couldnt be sustained then because of thin squad depth, off field drama and a lack of discipline in switching between that and the SPL. Engels was played too far forward. He should have been Behind the other two. Our wide players should have been much more defensively positioned too - and all of them had to pick their moments for going past midfield. We cant go toe to toe with these guys. I thought we'd play a defensive shape and get beat by a single goal, mebbe two. It would still be zero points But the team wouldnt have had to deal with PTSD afterwards - which they probably do now. Unless BR gets a grip of this Now, it could define our season. Best squad for decades - and the worst result ever. You Can fight a machine gun with a bow and arrow - which is pretty much what we are trying to do. But you have to have a very detailed and careful plan for it to work.
Look at the end of the day ..every player didnt perform.... we dont become a bad team overnight... they all didnt perform .....weve all played or seen games where we think if that went in or that went in ut would be a cricket score...well last night was that cricket score..... Are they a level above yes...did every player not play bad ?....lets see after December....nothings going to change in terms of personnel....Its just one of those nights...☘️
Celtic came up against a team out to win this tournament... They have World class players throughout the team.. Celtic didn't play well Dortmund played at there best.... They could do that to any team outside the top 8.. And we ain't top 8 in this league as far as quality goes.. But we still could easily end up in the top 8.. There's only 4 teams in Europe capable of doing that to celtic.. And they have to be on the A game.. Unfortunately borrussia are one of those teams... They have to much pace and strength up front.. So pressing doesn't matter they hit it over you to the top 3
Maybe Celtic needs to change once up maybe 3/4/5/ nill and let the other team come at them Neill Lennon only one that seems to have got it right but lost a few before that Falkirk was the team test obviously didn't take on board
You hope it's a one off? History tells you it is with Brendon in Europe. We don't belong at that level with constantly loosing over six goals, we hold the record of most goals scored against us, HELLO!
This is nothing new, unfortunately! It isn’t like Celtic have regularly got out the group or even got through the qualifiers! The new format’s only benefit is that teams like Slovan Bratislava are there as cannon fodder, even for Celtic.
See that stupid game on Saturday night I AM TELLING YOU GUYS STRAIGHT THAT WAS THE ENERGY GETTING SPENT THAT WAD NEEDED FOR TUESDAY no excuses but i would not have let thet date coincide with the champions league game a couple of says later shocking match fixing from the sfa and tv team at premier sports HH
I simply don’t get why so many people are complaining about the setup. Had we sat in behind the ball for 90 minutes whilst performing the way we did I think it would’ve ended worse. Our midfield, at least until Reo came on, could hardly string a pass. We lost the vast, vast majority of tackles all over the park, they won every second ball and far too often did Dortmund players glide seamlessly past us. The most costly part though was our lack of defensive pressure - Dortmund had 1 blocked shot out of 17 - too many decisive moments where our players needed to defend aggressively and didn’t which led to goals. If we actually played the way we have this season it could have been a totally different story. For me, just as Rodgers said in his pre-match conference, the biggest hurdle at this level isn’t technical but rather psychological, and that was so perfectly apparent last night.
IF my granny had baws she’d be my granda. Absolutely shocking tactics. We have learned nothing. Well, we learned that it doesn’t matter how good we look in Scotland, we are nothing in Europe.
Don't agree. Borussia played Bochum who are near the bottom of the bundesliga who defended quite well against them until late on last Friday. If you are the weaker team you set up your team to make them hard to beat. Bochum only lost 4-2 to Borussia.
Dortmund bullied us. Apart from being better technically, they were bigger, stronger and more streetwise. That's the main thing we need to learn for Atalanta
Gutted. Totally stumped. You can blame playing in Scotland etc., but that was something else. ALL I wanted was to see some sort of passage of play from us, but nothing.
With all the hype around this game that is easily the worst and most disappointing performance i can remenber from a celtic team. These players and especially Rodgers have learned nothng from previous away games. So much for bringing in quality as we are no better off than last season. Idah, bernardo, Trusty and Engles. Not one of them improve the team from last season.
Got outplayed, outclassed, outscored,we are not a champion league team simple
@@Steven-oj6kfyour not even a EL team name 1 team since Lazio where celtic were big underdogs that celtic have beaten
Falkirk was the warning sign and no one was talking about playing opponents 59 times better than falkirk
Absolutely. Any team that gets into our half looks like scoring
What a plug
As a Dortmund fan, I didn't expect such a result, I thought Celtic would be much stronger. But there are just days like that. BVB did everything right, Celtic simply made too many mistakes. To be honest, it could have gone even higher. About the penalties: Well, you don't necessarily have to give them. But your penalty against Slovan just as little. 😉 I wish you all the best. Beat Leipzig and come back to Dortmund any time!
The worrying thing for me is that Rodgers was asked if upon reflection he would do anything different and he said "not really", will the penny ever drop...
Yip. Shocking
At least we only play them once 😂
Atalanta is a better team lol
Guys,Mathis myth that Dortmund scored every chance. They absolutely did not. It could easily have been 10 or more.

Great to hear enda again . Missed on breakdown mate 👍
“The Huns beat them in 2022…..”
Yes but they didn’t even attempt going toe to toe with them. They accepted Dortmund have better players and tailored their game plan accordingly.
Celtic’s approach last night was naive bordering on outright farcical
@@jrhartley5Haaland didn't play either game from what I remember.
What's a Hun ?
Can't compare, different competitions , with many left out. The Champions league is a different beast
The games aren't comparable, that was literally Dortmunds worst season in the last 10 years and it was in a lower level comp in which their best players didn't play.

Hamish please tell Tony not to call BR an elite manager.Elite managers learn from their mistakes and adjust the teams tactics.
I don't know where this "elite manager" patter comes from. His biggest achievement is the Scottish league and routinely ships six and seven goals in Europe.
It was a 7-1 because the manager just can't change things because of his stubbornness
He didn't charge anything because he's only got one plan works well in Scotland doesn't travel well
Transfermarkt squad valuations at the UCL draw:
RB Leipzig @home. 517.13m v 106.75m
Borussia Dortmund away 471.6m v 106.75m
Atalanta away. 434.1m v 106.75m
Villa away 609.95 v 106.75m
...we shouldn't measure ourselves against these teams, hope for results, don't expect them.
HH
We keep saying it's a learning experience but it's not rogers has learned nothing
Julian brandt was stood free and unmarked for an entire 60 mins. It’s absolute madness
Find it mad. When the Huns played them in 2022 (a far poorer hun team) Brandt etc were all awful. We’re cursed
Yes because McGregor isn't a defensive midfielder and can't sniff out the danger
@@matthewrossi3498 we dont have a defensive midfielder at the club
Exactly. That's the problem
Rogers needs to wise up with his tactics in Europe and set out the team more defensively. Dortmund were different class but we contributed to our own downfall by going full gung ho against one of the best teams in Europe which in my opinion was absolute madness. As for the players with you guys that
I agree that Taylor wasn't 100% fit in fact I don't think he was even 80% but some of the performances were shocking though I do think Scales played better than most and Daizen at least gave it a shot and provided our only fleeting moment of happiness with the goal .
An excellent point about beating Slovan not making you a great team and the defeat against BVB not making you a terrible team
It’s one of the reasons he is still with us are his injuries and whether or not he’d pass a medical elsewhere
BR never learns, another heavy defeat to add to his list,, how he can say he wouldn't or won't change his tactics, any good manager would,
Against these calibre of teams the full backs simply cannot be dropping into midfield as this is why there was so much space for Dortmund to exploit, we need to be so much tighter and compact, then if we have our opportunities to play a bit then do so
We have to play to our players strengths, if you want that style ( which would keep score down, I agree) we need to buy players that fit that style.
Pragmatism is the key word here. Rangers are very pragmatic in Europe were stupid.
You change your tactics according to the opposition. Gordon Strachan got good results in Europe by being pragmatic.
So poor from celtic but tactically celtic should have been more defensive. Tge finishing from dortmund was top class though and the second penalty illustrated everything wrong with football in modern times.
Re the penalty we got one v bratislava for exact same foul so 🤷
Yep, point being is that I don't think that deserves a penalty either for or against.

Being honest it could have been double figures but for big Kaspar, and other than that you could only say that Daizen got pass marks. There's never a plan B in Europe... Why not send a defensive team out? You cant play the top 20-30 teams in Europe like this, it's Naïve

An absolute spanking but we move on.....
Celtic need to get out of the farmers league fast. This is urgent.
If they played defensive football and got beat you’d of complained so shut up
We were not bad by our standards, we just got pumped by a better team. We attacked like we do in the league back home and were exposed at the back - A back that never gets challenged domestically. yeh cannae dae that with teams like that.
yes, that meaning we were bad...terrible infact. Totally tactically inept, throwing caution to the wind at 5-1 down with 3 attackers up front.
Good analysis, felt sorry for the result just because of tactical naivety but to name Julian Brandt „the best German number ten in the last decade“ is simply surreal or insane for almost every German hearing it😂
Will someone tell Brendan to do what Sparta Prague did away at Stuttgart or go now.
Not because I don't like GT but let's see what Valle has got, if not now then when.
i think them scoring the second right after us SHOCKED us and we didnt recover
Scottish football is on a freefall.
With the shocking UEFA coefficient and the highest score of the past 5 year cycle dropping off this year, Scottish SPL champions will only qualify for 2nd play-off spot.
Without Champions League money, Celtic will slide down to Rangers level and SPL teams will be lucky to qualify for regular Europa comp.
That was a wake-up call, we need to defend better against Atlanta
We can't replicate it away because you can't play the same way away at Borussia Dortmund as you do at home to Slovan Bratislava -the magnitude of last night will likely have done terminal damage to our CL hopes this season -deja vu. Why do we want to qualify to likely play a big big gun amd play so cavalier and be slaughtered
If he had a group like Lille’s, we would be getting beat 6 and 7-1 each game. Midfield was non-existent, but then everyone was very poor
No midfield no balls no bottle & no excuses, nightmare 90 mins 👿👿👿
Great analysis lads, points well made. BR is nieve if he thinks we can play the same system in the CL as the SPFL.
Celtic defenders passing the ball to dortmund strikers didnt help
its the same every year .. yall whip yourselves up into a frenzy of expectation only to be crushed by reality..... i didnt expect 7,,, maybe 5 but not 7.... yet again were shown the "GULF" between scots fitba and the real thing. the "top" leagues are light years ahead .. they got there by playing "TOP" quality opposition week in week out.. the speed of their game is far superior.....By speed i dont mean maeda speed.. i mean speed of thought /mind process. that only comes from playing /practising against quicker thinking opponents... scots fitba was ruined in the 70s/80s by neanderthal coaches who thought chasing bairns up n down sand hills while screaming at them, was better than giving them a ball and letting them play... dont get me wrong, scots fiba is "evolving",,,,, but so are the others .......................................
Its the physicality. Gordon Strachan nailed it, years ago.
Celtic took some massive scalps years ago in champs league , they are loaded and should at least be competing better than they have been it’s not looking good , good squad and good players they should be doing better than that
Wasn't expecting anything last night but at least compete then it's improvement but we have learnt nothing from last season and previous CL away games
Groundhog Day
The Southern Hemisphere style 67 Hail Hail Huddle Breakdown..... I was wondering how long it would be before the pair of you team up.
I can’t believe Engels left the Bundesliga to come and play in Scotland
If we parked the Bus and lost 2-0, people would be screaming that we went away from the tactics we’ve been using all year. The reality is that no Celtic player would start for BVB. I’m not discouraged. If we take care of business at home, we will progress.
Celtic were badly exposed by a far superior team. Rodgers was also exposed tactically. It was apparent 20 minutes in that Dortmund were walking through Celtics midfield and defence. That was the time to change things, not 60 minutes gone. You'd hardly have known Kyogo was playing until he was subbed. No pass marks for anyone.
if we play this way against Atalanta,we will get fu,,,,, slaughtered,
The only positives to take sre that we won a lot of fouls/free kicks, especially Engels.
It is what it is we have to learn from it we went to aggressive to early instead we should have been more defensive
You played against last year's CL finalist. It's not a shame to lose, even with a 7-1 score
It wasn't a game on equal terms, and that wasn't to be expected
Atalanta and RB will destroy us. After those two games we can pick up points and qualify, but depressing to see how far we are still off the big boys!
I've lost count how many times we've lost an early goal in Europe or lost a goal & immediately we lose another 💩 💩 💩

This is nothing new, unfortunately! It isn’t like Celtic have regularly got out the group or even got through the qualifiers! The new format’s only benefit is that teams like Slovan Bratislava are there as cannon fodder, even for Celtic.

I’m Celtic thru and thru, can’t believe how naive you were. Our CL starts after Atalanta game
That's why the set up was wrong 😂
Don't agree. Borussia played Bochum who are near the bottom of the bundesliga who defended quite well against them until late on last Friday. If you are the weaker team you set up your team to make them hard to beat. Bochum only lost 4-2 to Borussia.
@@wonjubhoy great point 👍
