  • With the tide coming in from the W and the wind up from the E gave me a chance to paddle up against the tide. These inversion sessions I used to dread because of the energy that would be working against you either by paddling into the wind if you wanted to go with the tide energy or against the tide if you wanted to paddle with the wind and swell. A funny thing has happened while dialing in my AOA while paddling against the tide Ive realized an efficiency that I had not yet found. In focusing in on the angle of attack (AOA) Ive been able to instead of pushing the board up (while using up energy) Ive guided the board and foil in order to generate speed. I know it doesnt come across on carema but some of these paddle ups are 30% output VS 80% expenditure (something a short while ago I would have been adamant that I needed to do considering the need for speed to get up on FOIL) Basically Ive found a new way to build up speed and it is very encouraging for me as this new found pathway may lead to more speed and less energy spent = longer on FOIL time. Just by putting the blade and board and my shoulders in the right position I can then look to unlock to the speed with less energy spent. Im not sure if I would have found that without the inversion. Very exciting times. These Inversion sessions are a great workout and training sessions but now I think they may prove to be essential to improve my FOILing... Couldnt be more stoked. YeW!
