    Bunny seems fairly relaxed with Otter outdoors but more proprietary about the house. This is in keeping with her typical response to "strangers" around and in her home. Some animals never get used to having a second animal in their family. I hope Bunny can adjust without too much difficulty. At least she and her humans can communicate about the transition.

    • @ethelryan257
      @ethelryan257 2 ปีที่แล้ว +45

      I think everything will be just fine. However, I could imagine some transitional difficulties were Otter to take up too much of mom or dad's time. Especially dad. Bunny is pretty clearly a daddy's girl.
      Then, we might get a repeated sequence: Bunny mad, otter go bye-bye, now!

      They are introducing them properly. The time they get right now is outside, which Bunny is enjoying. For right now Otter is staying in her "room" inside and Bunny has run of the house. This is proper for a new dog at the beginning. Eventually, they will have some time together in the house, but still, Otter will return to the room which is fine because they are probably also crate training her. As time goes on they will slowly spend more and more time, but bunny will be in charge because she was first. It is a slow process and most people don't spend the proper time introducing new dogs to the family of other dogs.

    I totally thought Bunny was asking to be allowed to go to Otter, as in interact with him because he was making a ruckus.
    I know that there's a whole lot of interpretation that is required in this unique situation, but to me it looked like she totally had her concerned face on (even though she didn't use the button.)
    This is going to be amazing to watch.

      Her posture was extremely stiff, I would assume that she was asking her mom to remove Otter from the room (temporarily or permanently.) Her mom said that Bunny has an extremely difficult time with puppies, and Bun seems like she's an pretty reactive dog in general.
      I've noticed that some female dogs have issues with puppies, often moreso than male dogs, and I think it has a lot to do with unpredictability and social order. When I was working as a dog trainer (note: trainer, not dog behavioralist, I don't have a degree!) it was always young female dogs that had the hardest time adjusting to puppies. I saw this with my own dog years later, even though she was largely fine with adult dogs. Similarly, my dog wanted nothing to do with any kids under the age of 10 or so, but was fine with literally everyone else.
      Once Otter gets a little older and learns that Bunny may not appreciate his unpredictability, I'm sure Bunny will warm up to him, though.

    • @aember
      @aember 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Also there's some basis for my interpretation beyond my experience handling dogs: On Instagram, Bunny's mom has said that Bunny has reacted poorly to Otter's presence. There's a video of Bunny tensing up/preparing to snap at him, and her mom said that she generally does not like puppies.

Otter also peed on Bunny's buttons, which really stressed her out. I think they'll be fine in time, especially based on the most recent things she's posted but I think its important for people to realize that its pretty normal for dogs to have a hard time adjusting to new dogs. I think it is important to recognize that while Bunny uses the buttons in an increasingly complex manner...part of her method of communication is also her doggy body language (1st language, after all). Like...if she is uncertain about what she is saying, or as if she is concerned how her thoughts will be received, she yawns, which is a classic signal to sooth or calm her audience. Of all the talking puppers and kitties I have watched, Bunny has the most complex speech capability, but every one of them uses body language to add texture to the English. It is fascinating.

    • @deannad9105
      @deannad9105 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I know that traditionally in the dog universe, yawns are used to express anxiety, diffuse situations and/or let others know that the yawner's intentions are to keep things civil.
      But I wonder, in this instance, if the yawns are Bunny's version of "Um..." when we are trying to speak a different language and need a moment to think it through, but want to let the other person know that we aren't ignoring them🤔🤔🤔

      @joykelly440 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      She needs a "why" button so her mom can better understand what she means.
      She is asking why otter is sleeping in the afternoon. That's weird.
      She also needs to u derstand baby/puppy. That would really help her understand about small things. We haven't seen her interact with babies or puppies. This new family stranger is weird. Make no wonder Bunny is a little uneasy. She needs more information & more experience with baby animals/puppies.
      She's going to do just fine with Otter. She just needs a chance to get to know him.
      I never automatically assume that all older siblings will act jealous & resentful of a new introduction. They need to interact with the new one & they need love and attention from their parents when the parents' attention is directed elsewhere. It helps them bond, in a positive way, with the new family member.

    I was 4 years old when my mom and dad brought my new baby brother home, and as soon as I was alone I pushed that bassinet right over...
    But I learned to love him.. as bunny will love otter!

    Awe, Bunny is probably feeling jealous, she always wants to spend some time with her dad, that's my all the feelings came up, Otter is so cute, I love that you let them play in the water and just be dogs too, thank you for what you are doing.

    I watched the latest uploads where Bunny and Otter are older than they were here. It's so impressive to see how Bunny's communication skills improve as time goes by. I realized that dogs not only have feelings but have a deeper sense of comprehension and can learn how to express them only if we teach them. Really intelligent. Thanks for uploading their videos and I hope you continue to teach Bunny more words as well as Otter.

    You are doing an amazing job. It will get there, bunny is such a sensitive creature, she’s a joy, but it’s great to see you not rushing as so many people do. I adopted a 7 year old stray 4 months ago and it’s been very pressured but I love him, I’ve even stopped working for a month to spend time with him which was hard, I find what you guys do and your patience a relief. It makes me feel I’m not doing a bad job
