1080° is one of those franchises that could completely dominate its own snowboarding sub-genre if given another chance, same with Wave Race I miss arcade racers so much, y'all
The problem with a new SSX game is that EA would invariably shit on it with microtransactions and DLC, shitting on a once perfect trifecta of games. I don't want EA to be the ones that release a new snowboarding games, as they could kill an entire genre before it had time to regrow.
maybe? that _still_ hasn't happened with modern NFS games (though Unbound does have those season things) the F1 franchise or last year's WRC game, so you never know.
1080 Avalanche is easily one of the most well made Snowboarding games ever made. As a kid, I chose this game over SSX 3 because I wanted something different. I had a lot of fun with this game! The sense of speed is insane and I love how it chooses that concept over a combo based trick system. Plus, the soundtrack had Seether and Finger Eleven. A little unheard of for Nintendo choice music. But, the songs in the game were so good!
Kacey you gotta drop the Y2K-ass font you used when talking about how 2003 this game is because goddamn that is aesthetic as hell and I need it for my Y2K art LOL
I've always had a soft spot for the 1080 games and it's kind of sad that Nintendo has let them, and Wave Race, be consigned to the trash bin of history, because there's definitely potential there to make something new, but not necessarily original. I get why Nintendo doesn't want to potentially tie their reputation to largely iterative sequels and all, but I think it's acceptable when there's two whole decades between the iterations.
Exactly this. If anything I am more annoyed that the only F-Zero game released in the last two decades is a free-to-play battle royale gimmick than I would have been if they just kept not making any.
@@Kaceydotme I mean, F-Zero 99 is the second coolest available Battle Royale after Tetris 99 (RIP Mario 35) so that stings... Slightly less than just getting nothing. If anything, it's a shame Arika making these consistently popular battle royales based on retro games is no guarantee that said games will stay alive long-term, because we've already lost Mario and Pac-Man's entries into the genre.
@@Tudsworth Both Mario 35 and Pac-Man 99 were fantastic games, so much fun, so the fact that they're just dead because yes is so so annoying. Normally I'm not too bothered to think about it but when I do think about it more closely for a few seconds, those games being gone really ticks me off.
Bringing up Amped reminded me how much I loved the wack-ass Amped 3 and how dearly I wished it was ported to the PC. I mean, if I had to describe Amped 3, it would be "classic turn-of-the-century snowboarding games meet THUG - THAW era THPS-tone via the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World film". What's not to love about that?
@@Bridget4President That opening where they drop you straight in with your character in a bunny suit, boarding down a sunset-bathed slope while "Blinded By The Light" plays... [chef's kiss] so good.
I think it’s worth noting that this game probably “feels” less Nintendo as it wasn’t made in Japan. Nintendo Software Technology was behind this one, based in Washington (along with Nintendo of America). They’re also behind the Mario vs Donkey Kong series, F-Zero 99, Good Job!, and Snipperclips. They also did Wave Race: Blue Storm, an entry for the *other* sports-adjacent series Nintendo had going at this time that they promptly forgot about lol
Hey dude, I just only now found your channel and I'm genuinely loving your stuff. Thanks for the straight laced reviews and analysis videos without all the attention seeking bratty nonsense like a lot of other YTbers.
I recently got myself a Nintendo GameCube from japan and a few bits and pieces so i can use Swiss on it. Thought i gave 1080 Avalanche a shot and fell in love with it. Love it's presentation and how it plays
That's a Sega-published game so it doesn't count. My personal pick would be Devil's Third since Satoru Iwata's credited as exec producer while having F-bombs, depictions of war crimes and children getting slaughtered, even more gratuitous depictions of cigarette smoking than MGS4, gore that rivals Gears of War, and online deathmatch... It's kind of underrated if I'm being honest I think it would have found an audience if it came out on a Nintendo console during the peak of 7th gen shooter hype circa 2006-2011.
@@chemergencyTrue I forgot about that. Its pretty wild to me still though, that Mad World was an exclusive for the Wii Also looks like I’ll have to check out Devils Third
Devil's Third is much less "Nintendo" Nintendo Game simply because its hella brutal and the character looks like he will murder half the city with ease.
I appreciate that the least Nintendo Nintendo game is axtually good and fun. Because yes Nintendo regularly puts out bad and boring games. Being good and Fun is not an essential Nintendo trait.
Thank you for the video! Learning about gamecube's library and history (of the console and nintendo) always interests me due to its 'particularly extremely' low popularity in korea, in contrast to ps2 and xbox. The nintendo software technologies' history and development makes me think a lot about this game.
i wish this game got a sequel at some point. id like to have faith that if they made one now it would be good? but this game has a lot of charm that i feel might be lost if it's not worked on by at least some of the same people.
COD Zombies is honestly one of my fixations/obsessions, so I'm really happy to hear that you've opened up to it. You've missed out on a lot over the years, but I'm glad you've enjoyed it recently. I do get not being too interested in it for the longest time though, I know its not everybody's cup of tea.

"Girls?"
"... Girls. 😌"
Same
So "underneath of it's impressive water physics and McDonalds sponsorships" ... is the McDonalds sponsorship impressive or just the water physics
This is one of those games thats great but most kids just thought it was SSX in their young minds
There was also the cancelled Project Hammer that was the reason why NST no longer makes larger games anymore and caused a lot of 1080's devs to leave.
this games's soundtrack is insane

1080 was a great series, I'd love to see it make a comeback on the next Nintendo console but not before we get a new F-Zero.
2:48 A NES controller as a board in avalanche!? Interesting
i would love to see a series on like different nintendo shooters at some point.
on a scale from coolboarders 2001 to ssx 3 this game is absolutely an ssx tricky (real good)
honestly, I really like the PS2 version of Coolboarders 2001. it's pretty hard though hah

I miss 1080 so much. My music taste was shaped by this and THUG. Great times.
I like your new style of video format, is it going to be more expanded in the future?
8:19 Graaaaahhhhhhh!!!! 4x4 EVO MENTIONED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Funny thing, if they decided to re-release the game now, they would be anything but chasing trends, since this genre pretty much died off.
I've only sampled this game on my Wii U, seems neat.
I’m dissapointed at the dissing of Wave Race: Blue Storm in this video as the one Wave Race fan still waiting for a fourth game.
hey, no hate, i know people like it. just didn't click with me. the aesthetic of it is neat tho, v nostalgic.

I fully beat bluestorm a few years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.
