Addendum:
1. Tutorial videos are amazing for visual learners or even just if a rulebook misses something. There are amazing channels out there but my go-to has always been @WatchItPlayed
2. EXPANSIONS! If there's a few games you already enjoy, check out BGG for any expansions on the game, great way to add to your collection without buying new games. (For videogame players like myself, think DLC).
3. Twitch has great streamers that play board games regularly as well if you want livestreams. Banzainator, JenCamPlaysBoardGames, PhantomMeeple, & Panda8ngel are some channels I watch often.
4.. The paid Patreon members also get access to an exclusive Discord!
Tip for board game night: always make sure one person knows how to play. Nothing will kill a game night faster than “just learning as we go”,
Huge tip. Preferably more than one person if possible!
@@rolling.reggie that always helps!
Yes, 100% agree with this !
When I teach a game, I read the table …. Sometimes a rolling teach can assist players. It’s not the norm usually
This applies to medium heavyweights tho. Simple or lightweight games can sometimes be learned just fine. Meanwhile complex games need at least someone who wouldn't miss any rule
Hi Frankie! Thanks for inviting your human to this video! 😊
So nice to see a new video from you, Reggie!
This is a great video. I could have used this about two years ago.
Hope you’ve gotten some good bird-watching in!
Frankie runs the house!!! And I've seen lots of new regulars in my new neighborhood. Particularly, lots of Red-Winged Blackbirds :)
@@rolling.reggie My son’s favorite bird!
Wow, thank you so much for the shoutout! This is a great and super informative video!
You bet! Keep up the good work
This is DEFINITELY one of the best starter guides for board games. Gonna have to share this around to some newcomers, 'cause even I learned something-- had NO idea "Try These Games" existed! And yes... Analysis Paralysis is... quite a dangerous side effect! P.S. thanks for the shoutout! - G
I am glad to have shown something new to my OG gamer friends!
Thanks so much for the shout-out, Reggie! Thank you for informing us of the synptoms!!
Had to shout you out!!! And yes people may need to go see Dr. Reiner Knizia
This makes me want to start board gaming all over again from scratch. Thanks for the shout-out, bud.
When building your collection, try to find games that vary in their playtime. My favorite games are usually the 1-2hr play throughs, but I don’t always have the time/energy that. Good to have quick games on hand!

As always-superb! Will def be sending our newbie friends here for the Welcome to Boardgames orientation vid! And ofc, thank you for the shout out hermano! Punchboard Cathedral podcast loves you back! ❤
Rolando always shouts out Hermana y Punchito
Excellent video
You're too nice! Hope you found something helpful.
As the president of the American Library Association's Games and Gaming Round Table I thank you for the shot out! If you even have questions reach out.
I thank you good sir!
Thanks for the mention/shoutout! And I love those symptoms 🤣
V well deserved loved the Mom episode recently! And yes, time to go see Dr. Knizia if you have those symptoms lol
I've been in the hobby for 8 months and TH-cam has been an INVALUABLE resource. I personally hate rule books, so watching a rule explanation followed by a play-through is the best way for me to learn. At that point I can also tell if I'm going to enjoy the game and if it's worth pursuing at my local Game Bar. I'm happy you also watch Actualol. I think he does stellar videos, particularly his 10 Reasons Board Games Are Better Now encouraged me to try board games again. Really well done video. Great recommendations, particularly Try These Games and Melodice - I've never heard of them.
TH-cam is great! I meant to mention the part about tutorials over rulebooks that is a great reminder :) and yes Actualol is def an inspiration for me.
Dang Try These Games is a clutch recommendation! Been in the hobby for years and did not know about that one. Good video :)
Glad I could teach ya something’ thank you for watching
No Cheetos, or anything that gets the fingers dirty, for game night snacks.
HUGE tip lol people are careless with their food at the table. big no no
I had no idea about melodice such a great idea to make it more immersive
It really elevates game night! Thank you for watching
I wonder if we'll ever see a Board-Gamer-Gate.
Lol at the symptoms. Great video as always!

Brazil: Imperial is moving to me. I'm excited, but also a little bit afraid as my board game exp is about 3 years, but I've never played games with 3 or more complexity rating. That's gonna be real challenge for me 🐣
👊👊👊
About the video... that's very helpful for beginners. I also wanna say: I'm a new subscriber on your channel and I really like your videos, they are useful, interesting and... cozy!
I think you will understand it easier than you expect :D
Thank you so much for watching and welcome to the community!
Love this bro! But you are the first to introduce me not to board games but to the phrase "hub bub" lol WHAT?! 😂
This is how you know I don’t fully script my videos LOL googled it after to make sure I used it correctly
hubbub - a chaotic din caused by a crowd of people.
"a hubbub of laughter and shouting"
Fantastic video as always!
Glad you enjoyed it! Always lovely to see you in the comments
Awesome video, Reggie! Will definitely subscribe for more 👍
Thanks for the sub and welcome aboard! more content coming soon
Tip 1: You don't have to buy everything. Note to self: Follow this tip. :)
Tip 2: When you do buy games, buy for the gaming group you have, not the group you *wish* you had.
Both of these tips are great…and impossible 🤣
Thank you for watching and commenting:)
I think my #1 recommendation for new gamers is to take it slow when buying games. As you dive into the hobby you'll inevitably meet people who have dozens (or more) of shrinkwrapped games and at a certain point it's a bit mad. ALSO board games are very difficult to recoup your money when you do sell them. When you're starting out a collection, maybe get a few popular games that are different from one another and play those games for awhile. Or better yet, play the games that other people have at your local meetups. Every board gamer in the world would love nothing more than for you to play their games. So many of these games have nuances that you won't get to see until your third or fourth time playing the game and it's a bummer to never get there because there's always another new thing to get distracted by.
This is truly the best recommendation. And while I fully agree with you, it's impossible ;)
Great info! I'm subscribing to ya! never heard of "try these games" before and i'm having fun playing around with. Another TH-cam channel i'd recommend to you and others is "The Board Meeting". The dude's channel is small right now, but i think he's super likeable, knowledgeable and welcoming.
Welcome aboard! Lots of comments talking about TryTheseGames - it is fun. And great rec, I'm already subscribed to The Board Meeting it appears haha so many great channels out there.
