i see these around every so often in other cities. i wish county still had more of these as reserves. with all of the first gen dodge rigs going into reserve now, im sure this one has retired. glad i caught it before it did.
actually the model here and the one from the Emergency tv show are two different makes and models, the TV truck was a Dodge, the one here is a Ford.....
And there it comes Squad 51 to the rescue! And to all of the first responders keep it up. I love watching the show Emergency! on TV when I was a kid and I love watching it now. It's on the channel fetv, love from Marysville, California.
I'm surprised (but very happy) that LACoFD still uses squads. Seems like most fire departments don't have them. I always wondered why not though; it seems like an economical way to get more personal to a fire scene or send personal to calls where a $400,000 apparatus isn't necessary, especially in urban/heavy suburban areas.
Yes they are very economical when used properly. However LA County sends an engine or a ladder company on every medical call in addition to the squad which negates any cost saving. Speaking from experience you do not need that many personnel on most EMS calls, typically two is sufficient. And given that LA County also uses these private ambulance services as a means of transport that gives you four personnel on every EMS call as well so you really don’t need any additional fire units at that point unless it’s a very critical patient.
EMS even in LA takes a long time. Two people are not enough (for cardiac) which is the only time they will send an engine or ladder cause one person has to do CPR, another has to do airway, another has to be prepared to prep the defibrillator, someone has to prep medication, someone has to contact the hospital, someone ideally if they can, should get info from the witness(es), and if possible lead the ambulance in... hints why PD is partly often times call in. They are also paramedics... I do not think every ambulance company is paramedic trained and it saves them money than needing a heavy rescue sending four people to every call where two is fine.@@austinpace5071
A 1996 Ford F-150 Paramedic Rescue Squad that’s what Squad 51 should’ve had if it was back in business after the tv show emergency and Engine 51 having the American LaFrance, that way emergency is still there even though they would be at a different firehouse, but I do love the old ‘96 ford f-150 on squad 45 and the kme pumper on 45 engine
i don't believe so, unfortunately! a lot of the newer model squads have gone into reserve status after being replaced so i'm sure this has been phased out by now. thanks for watching!
That looks like a legit old squad box on that though. The boxes don't wear out much compared to the rest, so it's pretty common for places, not just fire, to just lift off the box and drop it on a new chassis/cab.
When LACoFD gets new squads, they get new bodies too. All the fittings, lights, brackets, mounts are fabricated in house. The old squads usually gets put into reserve, serve as tenders (bull dozer support crew), and mechanic trucks, pushing out the much older units.
The Siren is a Unitrol. What the Squads also ran back in the 70's through the 90's was a European High/Low Air Horn. Mostly heard at intersections, but it grabbed your attention. I believe Wo-Lo still makes a European Horn that runs off of a small 12 volt compressor.
maybe those cars could get in the way just a little bit more when you're trying to film that old squad. what was up with the two engines 45s in the station?
The private ambulances that respond with LACoFd squads, what level of training do the crews have, EMT or paramedic? We all remember in the show they were mere attendants.
Oh my gosh! That old style FORD squad is just the HAMMER!!!!!!!!!
I've always liked those 90's Fords. They made sharp looking squads and brush trucks. My city's department still has one as a frontline brush truck.

Oh man that squad ❤️
isn't it great? thanks for watching!
Keegan Craddock reminds me of the TV show emergency!
when seeing this type of videos I always wonder ... why do people take so long to react to the sound of an emergency vehicle? it's intriguing
they should bring back emergency back to NBC
Amen
@@mightyblack1Thank goodness that it did not happen. They would toss realism out the window like if it is "911" on Fox, later ABC.
0:24 YES SIR YOU LOVE TO SEE IT 😎😎😎 LA CO RUNNING THEM UNITROLS 💕💕💕

Like the trucks. I still get angry when people do not pull over for emergency response vehicles. The law states to pull over in both directions.
