    It has officially been 3 years since my ACL surgery - and it's time for another update video! In this video, I want to share about how my knee feels now that I'm 3 years post-op, including how it feels when I play sports, and just in day-to-day activities.
    Going through ACL surgery as an athlete (or non-athlete) can be a ridiculously scary thing at first, but I hope to share my ACL recovery journey as a story of inspiration and hope as IT IS POSSIBLE to get back to nearly normal again (even if you have some setbacks along the way like I did....RIP my kneecap lol).

    I had ACL surgery last April. There were some complications from my surgery and I had to have a second which I just had two weeks ago. I 100% agree this journey has been one of the most difficult challenges I have ever faced especially being a former 3 sport college athlete. Thank you for sharing your story

      How is your recovery going from the second surgery? Sounds like we have similar stories. I had ACL surgery in April last year and a minimal medial meniscectomy and scar tissue clean up last Friday. I haven’t been able to shake the swelling since the ACL surgery and hope this latest clean up will help.

Your video has given me a better outlook about being patient with the recovery process. Unfrotuntely, beach v-ball is how I injured my knee last July. I really have enjoyed beach volleyball for years and realize that it will be a while before i'm ready to hit the sand, again. I guees I'll be a nice friend to my group and donate a few of my OPTX V-balls to them before surgery; no need for them to sit in my garage for a year. Thanks again!

    I had 2 ACLs on the same knee. First one was a botched hamstring graft. Revision was patella tendon that has been in since 2008. I went through hell from 2004-2018. 11 ops and finally after 6 MCL ops i had that reconstructed properly. All good now but missed years of soccer. Good luck everyone

    Hey Victoria, thank you so much for this material! I'm 3 months post-op and keep having so many doubts. I was wondering if you'd had any little "accidents" or more like mishaps during your recovery and how did you manage afterwards? Here's the truth: I slipped on the operated leg on a wet bathroom floor a week ago, went into hyperextension more than I would have wanted to and I experience more discomfort and pain in the knee in the extension than I did before. My PT says clinically my knee is fine but we had to reduce exercise. Did you have any little slips/missed steps during your rehab? In the everyday life situaitions I mean? It's quite impossible to live a year without them! I'll be so greatful for some words of encouragement and sth to calm me down maybe. Now I feel like I'm just in a deadend street... I played volleyball on my uni team before and loved going out and now I feel like I'm not myself. Thank you in advance, I really appreciate what you do here

      I’d say it gets a little better each day up till that 1.5/2 year mark, then it really just depends on how hard you push your body. For me, there are days that it feels like the knee gets worse if I’ve really pushed myself too hard too fast.

    Hello Victoria,
    Thanks for the amazing content. Your videos have really helped me after my acl injury 3 months ago. I got my ACLR 3 weeks ago.
    I’ve researched quite a bit on this topic and had a question which i think is important for any person wondering about the long term quality of life:
    I’ve read that over 50% of people who go through acl surgery still end up developing Post Traumatic Osteoarthritis (PTOA) 5-10 yrs after their operation.
    1. Have you spoken to your doctors about the risk of developing PTOA and the reasons behind it?
    2. Have you incorporated any specific exercises/diet to mitigate the risk of developing PTOA?
    Would really appreciate your feedback.
    Thanks

    • @VictoriaDorsano
      @VictoriaDorsano  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is still a lot of research being done on this topic, so I wouldn't get too concerned about this stat quite yet. Surgical techniques are changing rapidly to mitigate the risk of OA post-ACL surgery. Most doctors I've spoken with say that there is still a very high risk (if not higher) of developing OA if you don't get the surgery as well since the knee is less stable without the ACL present. However, I do really try to hedge any risk by trying to keep my inflammation in check.
      I have really taken to the ATG/Knees Over Toes style workouts ( I have a whole playlist describing what these are on my channel and I feel this has really helped my knee stability and overall strength. Secondly, I started taking some supplements in appropriate doses to mitigate inflammation. (I made a whole video on those supplements here: th-cam.com/video/tQnOC0K5Tdc/w-d-xo.html). Aside from that, I try to get at least 7 hours of sleep, drink sufficient water, and eat a more Mediterranean style diet.

    • @staceyiwaskow320
      @staceyiwaskow320 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Where I'm from, they no longer recommend surgery for ACL unless you're an athlete, etc. They encourage physio and waiting to see if it's a problem before operating. 10 years ago I did all the research you did and ended up NOT getting the surgery (even though I was recommended it). I did 9 months of rehab instead.
      I'm 6 days post op (from my ACL reconstruction) and the continuous dislocations over the last 10 years has, indeed given me arthritis. My knee was a disaster. Turns out, you do need an ACL to keep your joint from deteriorating. Also, the last 10 years has given me such anxiety about the way I live, the sports I do, etc. That is going to take a lot of physio now to undo my brain wiring. So looking back, I might just get it done. But that's just me. You are certainly at risk of further injury and arthritis if you don't get the surgery as well.

    Just two questions,
    I am 3 weeks Post OP. I feel pain behind my knee where the PCL is when I do a basic flex to extension. Did you have that as well?
    Also, during PT my knee tends to give out on certain exercises such as single leg balance exercises. Did you find that to be normal?

    • @VictoriaDorsano
      @VictoriaDorsano  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I didn’t have that personally, but it is common! Give it a few more weeks and follow your PTs guidance and see where you’re at around 8 weeks post-op before getting too concerned.
      The knee giving out is normal. I had that for a while. It’s most likely due to your quad weakness from surgery. Keep working the quad strength, and it should get better in time!

      I'm sorry to hear about your ACL! The recovery process takes about 6-9 months to be feeling mostly normal again, 9-12 months to return to sport fully. 2 years for it to heal completely (but you'll feel pretty much normal by the 9-12 month mark). It's a long process, and you'll learn a lot about yourself, but it will make stronger in the end! If you need more support, check out my ACL course here (it includes a 1:1 call with me too): bit.ly/aclsecrets

    Achilles allograft might be a better option for ACL reconstruction as it negates the need to harvest your own tissue.

      Just give rest, to heal body itself. It takes some time to become normal.

    • @VictoriaDorsano
      @VictoriaDorsano  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It takes time! You’re still early in recovery. I’d suggest continuing PT exercises at home, and possibly an Incrediwear knee sleeve to help with the blood flow to help heal the area!

    Hi Victoria hope you can answer, ive had a meniscus repair 9 months ago and still i have sharp anterior pain when doing certain movements, my surgeon told me that i have the Hoffa Fat Pad syndrome, im gonna have an injection and hoping for the best.. could you elaborate a bit more about your experience with it? i really miss playing sports..

      @VictoriaDorsano  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! So sorry to hear you’re having hoffas fat pad pain. I understand how painful it can be! For me, I had to be really patient and just take a few weeks off of hard training and just rest and ice it, along with take some NSAIDs. I avoided movements that irritated it. And after 2-3 weeks, it felt much better.

      @@VictoriaDorsano thank you for the response, really happy to hear that it sounds pretty good right now, sadly for me ive rested for a few months now off movements that irritated it, but once i go back the same happens... hope getting an injection will solve it and get me back to doing sports again..

    • @alilakhraichi3481
      @alilakhraichi3481 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      What does your doctor say about it. You should normally be walking after 3-4 weeks you just have to walk on it and if it feels like your knee is not stable thats normal you just have to walk more to get that stability in. But I am not a medical proffesional just giving the advice I got just get over your fears you will get there.

      Normally after 3_4 weeks you need to start putting pressure on your knee by walking at first you will need the clutches but from 5 to 7 weeks you will normally be able to walk... You will feel your knee not stable at first but you need to continue walking.. You might need to visit your doctor
