on orbit recycling has the potential to provide large volumes of aluminum, copper, & steel to new equipment without having to pay the launch cost for that weight. most of the ISS which stupidly is scheduled for deorbiting is made from easily recycled aluminum.
Just goes to further show that wherever humanity can reach they will inevitably turn that environment into a toilet or dumping ground. I was shocked when I saw this video as I never knew the extent of the pollution we've caused in space. We've polluted every conceivable environment now, the seas, rivers and lakes, air and land are all victims of our negligence but instead of owning it and cleaning our mess we ignore the problem, hope it goes away by itself and add to it. Its so frustrating.
@@jimamizzi1 maybe that's a good thing, everything we touch turns to shit and we always find a way to screw things up through conflict and the greed of major corporations. If we do manage to teraform a planet like Mars or put a massive colony on the moon how long do you think it would take for us to screw it up and make it uninhabitable? We've already turned this planet into a massive toilet and have single handledly rendered thousands of species extinct, we don't deserve to have another home. We need to own the disaster of our own creation and live with it.
Correction: When Satellites Burn from re entry, they don't simply disappear; the aluminum particles from satellites impact the ait and stay in the atmosphere and propel climate change on Earth
Not content with destroying our planet with garbage, we decided to do the same in space. If we, as a species, had any integrity, we would have waited until we could venture out without polluting before we sent anything at all up. But our desire to be first overrode what’s in our best interests.
I found the title funny. "Space Law" As if to say us "Humans" are going to lay out and uphold laws in space. I wonder what the pre existing laws will think once space exploration and planet settlements are a thing.
The universal WIIFM and NIMB rules apply. Those who pollute space will have the incentive of self interest to fund clean up when space junk clog their launch paths and orbits. Of course they will try to make us all pay. We have a bigger earth junk clean up responsibility problem. Who is responsible for the clean up when unknown polluting junk is dumped in your backyard? Somehow it reminds me of the sky lantern business in Taiwan and fireworks, not to mention plastic and rubbish 9n our beach. Lol
That is a good idea and the first thing I thought, the country that put it up there brings it back. But when have corporations cleaned up any of their mess, look at the problem Australia is having with old "oil rigs" in the ocean. They would rather sink them in place and forget about it.
Minor correction to 12:51 : Starlink plans to have much more than 12,000 satellites. Last I read, the intended constellation size is 42,000.
It should be pointed out that Russia, USA, and India have also performed anti satellite missions.
Just wait till some of this junk hits a maned mission, maybe then someone will do something about it, because it will happen sooner or later
Before the space weapon treaty America sent a nuclear missile and a nuclear bomb to space.
I love Australian shows. I was wondering when somebody was going to bring this up
Very helpful for my paper

Know about this for a long time, if something isn’t done we will be trapped on earth

I think u played the break up of the space shuttle as the spectacular “ meteor……..

We need an International Space Junk garbage truck.

A space magnet

Nice to see no mention of global warming from burning up space junk in our atmosphere
I mean it's insignificant compared to the oil manufacturing infrastructure.
Article seems to come across a bit anti Elon; but that's fashionable and pays well I suppose...
