Texas went 11-1 in 1977 and lost the National Championship to Notre Dame in the Cotton Bowl. But the 1978 and 79 seasons I have always felt the Longhorns under performed both those years going 9-3 both seasons. I know they lost Earl Campbell after 77....but those next two years they had a lot of talent returning.....especially on defense.

Peak for Lou Holtz at Arkansas was in 77 season. Fred Akers had 2 more 1 loss seasons.
