I soooo love these videos & so much fun to watch! A real trip down “memory lane! “ the costs are hysterical & just love this video listening to prices from long ago. Great video!

    Thanx so much for sharing!
I can always appreciate another nostalgia trip.
I miss the familiar dry voice of Edwin Newman on the nightly news.
I was there. Summer break from high school. My steady and I, with our families (minus our dads, bc they had to work), took a day trip from Maryland to the Fair.
    Wow. Just wow.
We got there when the gates opened for the day. We took some movies, and a lotta still shots, but they're all, unfortunately, lost somewhere in time. We saw everything shown in this clip, and more. We even met at 'The The Smoke Ring'. (I still have my button.) We were back on the road before nightfall, so didn't get a chance to see it all lit up.
I looked carefully, hoping to spot 'us' in the crowd in this clip, but, No.
The sights and knowledge we experienced at the Fair were fun and interesting to see.
But what I remember most about that day was how it felt. How it smelled. Everyone looking excited and curious. No fighting. No fussing about somebody being different, no matter what that difference might be. Young. Old. This state. That state. This country. That country. These clothes. Those clothes. Whether we understood each other's language or not. We understood each other. We felt it. You couldn't help but feel a connection.
    Peace through understanding.
Yep. I think we achieved it that day.
    In that wonderful place.
All of us. Everyone. Together. Happy to be there.
    Just happy to be.

A whole, deep fried soft shell crab on a bun. Delicious, but those waffles were unbelievably good. There's a truck called Waffles and Dinges in NYC that sells waffles made with the same recipe as the ones sold in the Belgian Village at the fair. They're every bit as good as I remember!

Wow, Picasso paintings in the open! With no bullet proof glass. And no 10 foot barriers! And no SWAT team standing next to them! This was the way to appreciate art. No wonder I don't go to museums anymore. I feel like I'm walking through San Quentin Prison, with each painting inside a locked cell, and the prison guards watching over me on the "catwalk". Might as well put the damn paintings in Fort Leavenworth and close the museums.

Edwin Newman has high praise for the NY Pavilion, still standing, and rotting. It was open for a day several years ago so I went. Unfortunately, the line to get in the decrepit remains were World's Fair length so I didn't bother. Architecturally, the IBM Pavilion was most often praised. And it was a lot of fun to visit. Should have saved that.

The Ford Pavilion was modeled after the Rotunda in Dearborn Michigan which burned in the early 1960s...

I'm taken back ... by the lack of obese/over-weight people ... Boy the difference 47 years makes ... Also the lack of rude and obnoxious tourist ... It's hard to travel anywhere in the States these days ... and find courteous and polite people with manners.

Stranded NYer. Yeah. A lot of people didn't go. My parents were engaged at the time and they didn't go. They sort of hold their heads in shame when I chastise them for not going.

Of course architectural critics of the time thought this place looked tacky, but 50 years later I can say that a whole lot of admirers of Mid-Century Modern think it looked swell.
I remember Belgian waffles being promoted a lot, or talked about, but we never ate any when we went. I'm sure my parents thought they were just a big dessert (correctly) which would ruin your appetite later for real food.

@swampwatch yes, I noticed, but look at the size of the portions served, no super big gulps in those days, and Doctors then handed out diet pills like candy,
