That was the exact moped I owned in 1976 a Puch maxi with aluminum rims, it cost $600 in 1976 and it was the top-of-the-line Puch moped they were selling. I loved that moped. : ) to see it again but : ( that I sold it so many years ago, dammit I should have kept it. Notice the larger seat, only the Puch maxi had this seat.
It's probably not cost effective for you, as a pro, but it's worth pointing out to DIYers that it's cheap and easy to cut your own intake gaskets. Nice video. Thanks!
Sure thing! Common practice at the shop. It’s nice to have a couple of specific tools to make custom gaskets quick and easy, like a hole punch and curved scissors. Maybe I’ll make a vid to should this one day??
Dude, you are so good with bikes. I learned a lot from the first video. I came here from Sara's video. Don't ever let her get on a moped again. She's such a crazy driver.
noticed that myself on aluminium intakes, people tend to tighten them to much, me too.... quite often use bathroom silicone on these parts just to fill in the gaps, dont use a gasket

Your moped is assembled and tested here at our facility, then repackaged and strapped to a pallet for shipping. The handlebars are lowered and the pedals are removed for shipping. When you receive the bike, You will have to adjust the handlebars to your liking and tighten them in place, and install the pedals. That’s all.

Piston port timed kits are made differently than reed kits. They use different techniques to produce power. Reed kits control flow of fuel and air with the fibers of the reeds, but offer less control at higher RPMs. They are known for excellent low RPM power. Piston port rates have excellent control of the air and fuel mixture. The Piston physically opens a window. The benefit, there is zero blockage (reeds will interfere with flow). This is noticed in the higher RPM range, where piston port kits can really sing.
What “goop” are you using for mounting the carb on the tall intake? Iv’e been fighting air leaks with mixed results... always looking for a magic bullet!
Nah, this is a modest kit. In some cases, with larger bore kits it might be a good idea for a crank upgrade. The upgraded crank will replace brass bushings with needle bearings. And have “stuffing “ for a balanced crank while improving case volume. Unfortunately for the 2 speed Puch motor (za50)... there are not a ton of crank upgrade options
@@MopedProblems i work on Tomos mopeds too, but when it comes to the Automatic or any other, which have a 38mm piston no one likes to change the bore bigger than 39mm. Maybe with a 39L piston that you put on your Puch(talking about the L piston, not the bore) . I have a APN 4 and tried with a 42mm but the standard or even a needle bearing crank started to knock after a while. In my opinion they are not made for this kind of upgrades without upgrading the crank :)
The 64cc port was also round and matched the round intake “close enough”. Using a Dremel to better match the cylinder and intake is common practice, since the customer rather keep the stock exhaust, I didn’t think details like this would make an impact.
Have I sent you a type of scooter I have and the picture of it would you be able to tell me if a Big Bore Kit might work on it? It looks very similar to the scooter you have in this except it's orange and the body's a little bit different
@@MopedProblemsthats right! Did you try to make some highend moped? Stage6 R/T 70cc liquid cooled cylinder? Or something like that? Don't tune tomos hard, because they have weak blocks (bearing cases). I am from former yugoslavia so lot's of tomos is going thru my hands.
You don’t “need” to. In this case, the customer only wanted to spend a little money. He also did not want a setup that was loud, drawing unwanted attraction. In this case the stock intake and stock exhaust was used. Gave him an affordable and quiet set up. While this did give him a boost in power and top speed, we could’ve gotten more power with a larger intake, carb and performance exhaust.

Instead of grinding, cut a gasket by hand, ór use liquid sealant next time. I should know; i worked for Steyr-Daimler-Puch back in the day.
I think I will make a tutorial on gasket cutting in the near future. It’s a lost art 🖼
