On 9 October 1989, 70,000 people staged a non-violent demonstration calling for more freedom and democracy in the GDR. Thanks to the claim “Peaceful Revolution”, initiated by Kurt Masur as one of six prominent citizens of Leipzig, everything proceeded peacefully. That evening, the Gewandhausorchester played under his baton Brahms’ Second Symphony at the St. Nicolas Church. The following regular "Monday Demonstrations", which came to be described as the “Peaceful Revolution”, became a major milestone on the way to open the Berlin Wall one month later on November the 9th in 1989 and paving the foundations for the reunification of the two German states.
Exactly 20 years later, the Gewandhausorchester and Kurt Masur commemorate the beginning of the German reunification by presenting the same symphony at the same location.
Dieses Stück gibt so viel Kraft. Ich mag es sehr. Professor Biller hat in seiner Amtszeit Großes geschaffen. Mit seinem Tod hinterlässt er eine große Lücke.
Für ihn war die Musik ein Ventil.
Meine Hochachtung für so eine große Leistung......Ihr Thomasser seid einfach großartig.

Herrlich die Gnade Gottes zu spüren diese herrlichen Stimmen hören und erleben zu dürfen, dieses Lied schenkt mir soviel Freude das es meine Worte nicht ausdrücken können !

I miss Biller he always seemed full of joy and got the best out of the boys. The new guy doesn’t have the same spark.

You are right with your words. Biller had his time and it is hard to acccept that his time is over. Bur we should be deeply grateful for all he gave to us through his music.
Biller is a brilliant musician who clearly enjoyed a special bond with his choristers. Schwartz is not without skill. It is very hard to be the 'new guy' after such a force as Georg Christoph Biller. I think the Thomaner are in good hands with Schwarz, and I wish him continued success.
Die Jungen und ihr Chorleiter machen es wie immer ausgezeichnet. Die Aufnahme ist aber nicht neu, oder? Die Musik mag ich sehr gerne. Leipzig auch. Ich war früher einige Zeit dort und habe eine musikalische Ausbildung bekommen. Ich erinnere mich gern daran.

Mir gefällt die Interpretation gerade durch die hohe Geschwindigkeit nicht, aber der Klang is echt gut 👍🏼
Was ist an dem Tempo auszusetzen? Alles klingt wie von Prof. Biller und "seinen" Thomanern gewohnt sehr ausgewogen, schlicht und einfach nur herrlich - eben wie von Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy beabsichtigt. Zusammen mit "Richte mich Gott!" sind dies meisterhafte Werke!😍
@@MusikPiratCH ich persönlich finde das Tempo ein wenig zu schnell gewählt und bevorzuge eine langsamere Version, da das für mich einfach besser zu Text und Stimmung des Lieds passt. Ich sage jedoch nicht, dass es schlecht gesungen ist, ganz im Gegenteil!

This is part of Mendelssohn's oratorio Elijah. All of which is wonderful music about that great old Testament prophet.
