seeing the geographically accurate subway maps is so weird to me since in Mexico city the maps we use for the metro are geographically accurate and pretty easy to read
The great thing about a properly shaped metro map is that if you want to go to let's say Piccadilly on the tube you only need to know where about it is on the map and then you can look for it compared to where you are but if you have a map where everything is crazy you take longer to find it.
8:30 As a fellow Geography nerd, I can totally agree with you! I need to physically know which direction and how much distance of the city I'll be going
I think in the UK there is no law explicitly saying you can't spank your kids but if you did that and someone finds out about it you are probably going to get a visit from social services or the police.
The Ukrainian map made me almost weep, literally, for hundreds of years there was a sizeable ethnic German population there, but after World War II they, along with almost every single person of German ethnicity in europe, were forcibly deported to Germany's new borders, their ethnicity being their only crime, oh and by the way no bringing along of any possessions of any kind, so no family trees or photographs.

1780- The American revolution was slowly grinding to a halt, as Britain blockades U.S ports. Early into the year a snowstorm slows advance of Washingtons army, and results in them being stuck in Morristown. This would result in the one sided battle of Morristown, where as the lines broke Washington would rally the remaining forces into a charge. If it would have been successful it would have crushed the british, who after seeing the charge began a retreat. But unfortunatly for the American forces, Washington would be shot off his horse, and would die a few days later due to infection. These events would soon be depicted in famous painting "The Fall in Morristown" in 1823. Other events during this time was some of the first naval landings in Calais by Britain, The First Bohemian war coming to a close. And the start of Australian colonisation by Britain. 1790- After the seige of Paris in 1882 the American "Experiment" came to an end, with the re-establishment of the Thirteen Colonies. With France suffering another major loss agaisnt Britain, the French Revolution would gain even more power agaisnt the French monarchy. The Second Bohemian war would also occur, though it would result in an Austrian victory, also within this decade begins the dismantlement of the Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth. 1800- The Polish Lithuanian Commonwealth is dismantled, as the War of the First coalition occurs with France dominating Europe with Napoleon. Before this the Third and last Bohemian War occurs. Also while this occurs the Finno-Russian wars begin. This Decade also marks the beginning of the Bonaparte Dynasties rise to power. 1810- Napoleon Declares the French Empire, establishing the États confédérés du Rhin and Commonwealth de Pologne and establishes yet another of the Bonaparte Dynasty in Spain, after a short war known as the Castillan War. Though with pressures mounting from Britain attempting a repeat of the Calais invasion. And with the end of the Holy Roman Empire this marks the beginning of the new age of the three Dynasties with negotiations between Britain and France. 1820- After A campaign led agaisnt France with Prussia and Britain a conference is held in Rome with the États confédérés being disbanded, and territories being regiven to Prussia and other German States. And the Borbourns are reinstated in Spain, this is also the beginning of Gran Columbia and other Spanish Colonies independance wars. The Ottomans continues to lose north african colonies. 1830- The Qing dynasty begins its decline, with Britain gaining chinese land in India, and Korea gaining independance. As more Balkan nations gain independance. With Ottomans in their weakest point of this century, the other Great Powers scramble to gain influence over nations breaking free of them, though this would result in the Ottomans looking for strengthened ties with France, which will seal the alliances of the future. 1840- The First Opium War occurs, which truly seals Qing decline, with the taking of Hong kong and Hainan. To go with this begins the Second American Revolution, beginning with the seizing of Toronto by Union forces.
3:06 That's Ogala Lakota County, which is entirely within a Native American reservation, and happens to be the poorest county in the US, worse off than Haiti.
I'm from South Dakota. This is absolutely correct. This reservation has suicide watches because situations are so dire. During Covid-19 the nearest proper hospital was about 3 hours away. Since our governor didn't close anything during the pandemic, everyone came to visit. The problem was that many wanted to travel through the reservation, which again, had no proper medical care. Because of this they set up checkpoints to turn away people who were not performing an essential service. Our governor sued them in federal court. Despite all the best efforts, many became sick at the reservation and died. I could go on and on with stories but it's just too awful. We need significantly more awareness for our Native Americans and the conditions they are currently in.

2:55 I would think so. Sales taxes are regressive, disproportionately affecting lower-income people. Income taxes and _especially_ property taxes affect people who are higher up on the economic ladder. It’s not a surprise that certain states might be especially willing to let their less well-off citizens disproportionately bear the economic burden, and in former No-No America states-some of which seem to still really pine for the old days-well…(and sadly, that corporal punishment map makes perfect sense, too).
8:29 This, Drew, is the difference between topographical and topological maps. Topographical maps show the direction and distance. Topological maps show only the stations.
The state of Montana has no state level sales tax, however, individual counties, cities, and municipalities have started instituting sales taxes. The cities of Whitefish and Bozeman were among the first as they’re tourist traps.
Missouri is also german and we produce thr most beer, we don't have a drinking problem. (I believe one of Walt Disney 1st theme park he went to was a beer garden in Kansas city that later burned down.) Used to be 2nd in wine but nearly all the company's closed from prohibition, which is weird since some of them were allowed to make church wine, but Busch sold near bears and yeast in a box with instructions to help you not accidentally make beer with it on the back.
As a South Dakotan I can help for once! That South Dakota country without sales tax is the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. They are technically independent from the state as well as the other 8 (I believe) Tribes in South Dakota that are reservations as well. About 12% of South Dakotan land is Tribal Reservations.
you questions about the tax in the south east is true, states with high sales tax typically have low property, income, state, and federal. states with moderate sales tax also have other taxes in moderation. typically income and sales taxes are on a slider.
In Australia the Tax is included in the price which I think is a nicer way to do it. Also like a year ago they made it so you have to have the price per kg down the bottom of the price tag (or other specific measurement) which is really handy.

(I believe one of Walt Disney 1st theme park he went to was a beer garden in Kansas city that later burned down.)
Used to be 2nd in wine but nearly all the company's closed from prohibition, which is weird since some of them were allowed to make church wine, but Busch sold near bears and yeast in a box with instructions to help you not accidentally make beer with it on the back.

"Funny seeing those countries having territorial disputes with Japan as if they don't rightfully belong to Mongolian."
- Mongolian Proverb
Less than 5 seconds and we are already talking about drinking. It's great
you questions about the tax in the south east is true, states with high sales tax typically have low property, income, state, and federal. states with moderate sales tax also have other taxes in moderation. typically income and sales taxes are on a slider.
Check out the driftless region in WI along the Mississippi River- prettiest area in the state
In Australia the Tax is included in the price which I think is a nicer way to do it.
Also like a year ago they made it so you have to have the price per kg down the bottom of the price tag (or other specific measurement) which is really handy.
Here in Wisconsin it’s basically imoossibal not to find a town with at least 2 bars in it
3:28 As someone from Kansas, teachers don’t. Maybe some district in the west with like 200 kids, but you can’t do it nowhere that’s anywhere if you know what I’m saying.

As a Colombian it is very illegal to destroy the country’s flag in public
For the map about flag burning, in Northern Ireland it is common place on certain days to either burn a UK flag or ROI flag, depending on where you stand, at bonfires
The Seoul metro is by far the most intricate, you're gonna have a hard time looking at the map. Oh, and there are sometimes two stations too close to each other for comfort...
The US never get that big? They stretch coast to coast on an entire continent, that had natives living there before they came along
Yeah, you don't really need to worry about making a global empire when you're already nearly the size of a continent and have a wide variety of geography and resources.
@@fascistlobster also generally friendly neighbors helps as well-
