    Good to know that I am not alone. Two weeks out and doing great during the day. All of my issues are sleep related. All day I have little pain and have great motion. Hardly use a cane. Wish everyone well

      This is me. I have very little pain. It aches more than anything else from the swelling so I do great all day but can’t sleep. The recliner is my BFF at night.

    On week 4, I was allowed to take Benadryl and it helped me fall asleep. I could sleep 3 or 4 hours at a time, which seemed like a miracle. I am now on week 6 and I stopped pain meds at night. I also stopped Benadryl and started Tylenol PM. I have slept through the night 4 nights in a row. For pain during the day, I am using regular Tylenol or CBD. I used CBD prior to surgery and it has always worked for pain relief. I only started after 4 days of no opoid pain meds.

    Most of the advice I see is for a single knee replacement. I had bilateral TKR Jul 5 2023, so I have a hard time adjusting the advice when everyone talk about a good leg. Any suggestions

    • @Kneereplacementcoach
      @Kneereplacementcoach  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends what you are struggling with. Is it pain, getting the legs supported, controlling swelling… it can be very challenging to manage both sides at once ❤️‍🩹

    I had Bilateral knee replacement,7 weeks ago. I normally sleep on my side. I cannot do that now and sleeping on my back is aggravating the nerves in my back. I am getting less sleep now than when I was two weeks out from tkr.

    • @Kneereplacementcoach
      @Kneereplacementcoach  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Having both knees done at the same time makes it really tricky, a small pillow under your thighs to take pressure off your low back can sometimes be helpful ❤️‍🩹 It does get better over time, so focus on managing your pain to get the rest you need

    Well I've been on tramadol since the second week. I did not like oxy very much and had a lot of nausea with it but I have asked for some just to take during PT. On the other hand I cannot possibly get into the positions they suggest for sleeping. I'm lucky if I can get one pillow between my knees and my knee still hurts and it's just a matter of time before I can't stand it anymore and go back to the recliner. I'm going to try a different recliner today and see if I can boost my legs with pillows on that one.

    • @Kneereplacementcoach
      @Kneereplacementcoach  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just do your best to support your leg when trying to sleep, even getting a few hours with your leg in a sub-optimal position will give you the rest you so desperately need ❤️‍🩹

  • @danyarbrough828

    You’re really full of it! You think that, by keeping pain below a 6, one should be able to sleep. Bull! Pain less than a 6 is plenty to keep a patient from sleeping. Also, have you ever tried to sleep with your leg straight and elevated? Try it sometime. You might get a short catnap, but that’s not a position that allows for a restful night’s sleep. Even more important, it’s not the position that a lot of orthopedic surgeons insist on. They say sleep any way you can, because sleep is therapeutic and necessary in recovery. Everyone tends to roll over many times in their sleep. Any position that allows you to sleep is the correct position.

    • @Kneereplacementcoach
      @Kneereplacementcoach  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Correct, pain control is the most important piece of the sleep puzzle. Sometimes your pain will only allow you to sleep in a certain way, and of course, you need to do whatever it takes to get the rest you need to recover. But, if your pain is well managed, then resting with it straight will give you an advantage as you heal and get you walking without a limp sooner. Wishing you all the best in your recovery 💙💙

      @@Kneereplacementcoach You obviously have never had a total knee replacement. What IS your expertise? Let me spend an hour with you with a knife, bone saw, hammer & chisel, and a drill from Home Depot, and let’s see if you are so nonchalant about the pain that TKR patients feel day and night. The average TKR patient gets practically no sleep for weeks or longer, and you’re telling them to “keep their leg straight and elevated” like that’s going to help their sleep. Have you ever tried it, even without knee surgery? The pain is not “ well managed” by many patients because orthopedic surgeons are hesitant to prescribe opioids for any length of time, and drugs like Tramadol and acetaminophen aren’t very helpful during the first few weeks. Sitting or laying for very long with your leg elevated can and does have a horrible effect on your lower back and sciatic nerve. Mine hurts now more than my knee, and that’s saying a lot. Some patients, like me, are unable to activate their quads, so the leg is a dead weight that has to be lifted into position, on to and off a bed, into a car, or onto a PT table. Putting the leg on a wedge pillow requires some superhuman strength and usually a leg strap. I really don’t think many patients are capable of it.

      Thank you! I thought that too, and I'm lucky if I can get the pain below a six.
      I fall asleep Emma recliner in the living room anywhere from 9:00 till 11:00 and sleep through till 2:00 and count myself lucky. I can actually pull more pillows under my knee in the recliner then I can on the bed. And I've tried all three positions in the bed and all three of them my knee just aches. I'm on week 3 and I'm in the hospital because I had a blood clot that I thought had moved. The interesting thing is that they've been slow about giving me my pain meds but they brought plenty of ice in the ice actually help me sleep a little bit Andy's hospital beds are not conducive to side sleeping in fact I think there's a rut in the bed that is the only comfortable place to lay period.
      Hopefully when I get home I can get some sleep in the recliner

      @@nettiesanders676 Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. This is my 2nd knee surgery. I had TKR on my right knee 10 yrs ago. It was tough, it always is but that knee has never given me a problem. So the one I had in December is now 2 months old…I am starting to sleep a tad better and looking forward to Melatonin to help me along. I am no longer taking pain pills only Tylenol on occasion. I had PT today, no pain pills and it went great, of course the knee is a bit painful when it is massaged especially on the inner side. I came home and iced it for an hour and that was it. The first 2 months are tedious but I had been suffering for 6 months so it was do or die for me. I am glad I got it done and I know that in another month I will be feeling again better. Don’t hesitate to contact me if you have more questions. Its a big decision but sometimes a girl has to do what she has to do. I wish you the very best! May God bless you and guide your surgeon’s hands….
