I love how driving while using your phone is illegal but having an ipad in the middle of your dash isnt.
I play chess on it while I drive :D
I hate all the new infotainment screens on modern cars. Super distracting, especially on Teslas since you need to use the screen to do pretty much anything. Bring back buttons!
Tesla screens I 100% agree because all the wacko features and size but a apple car play screen just looks so nice and is normally better audio quality than an old radio. Makes my 06 lancer feel much more modern than an rgb kenwood. Also can get Waze up on there so it tells you were speed cameras are and shows your Spotify, so instead of going on your phone to queue songs you or your passenger can use the screen.
I live in Toronto and im like 99% sure it’s illegal to have an operational screen in your car (although I’ve never heard of someone getting a ticket for it)

Having the functions of a car limited to a "touchscreen tablet" is so fucking dangerous. Unless ive been lied to my entire life, playing with a phone, tablet, whatever while driving can get you pulled over as a violation.
Call me old fashioned but I like controls that actually control things. I don't care about aesthetics just give me knobs and buttons that do stuff 100% of the time
the buttons, nobs and sticks have worked perfectly fine. why change it if it worked for generations? 🤷
It's fine - Musk is above the law.
@@solala1312b Because letting the consumer take on the risk liability is way easier than paying the upfront cost of buttons, knobs and sticks. Afterall with the cybertruck being such a cheap and affordable vehicle, they had to make their profit back somehow.

The most annoying thing about the solar-bright-burn-your-retina-headlights is that they aren't even born out of necessity for the average consumer, I personally think it's because people don't want to just simply slow down when visibility is low - like you are supposed to. Is it raining? Slow down. Is it night time? SLOW DOWN. In Texas, where everyone and their dog owns a truck, it's awful. Can't see jack.
you should slow down either way, especially when the weather is wild. never understand why people want to speed over icy roads.
Bro same. Like I am old enough to remember a time when you could flash your brights at a car that was coming at you too bright, then they could dim them. But now the two headlight settings are "flash bang grenade" and " surface of the sun."
Wtf you shouldn’t drive slower at night was a ridiculous thing to say. Raining and bad weather I’ll agree but AT NIGHT?! If you can’t drive at night don’t drive at night but don’t be on the road going 20 under bc it’s dark outside
@mscookie3613 in a city? no, dont slow down. in the countryside? absolutely, helps to keep alert for animals on the side of the road
@@mscookie3613 I guess I should've been more clear, the point is just if visibility is low for whatever reason - slow down. And when it's night time, obviously low visibility is not as much a problem in the city with well lit roads, so the change you need to make is minimal. I mean you don't *have* to follow these rules, but it really increases your chance of deadly accidents if you don't - idk I just kinda thought it was the obviously sensible thing to do. Don't drive faster than what you are able to see and process what's in front of you.

Whenever I'm driving a rental car I feel like I have to learn a new operating system, while driving a car...
I had to sit snd google how to start a rental once 🤡
I hate the new "redesign" of stearing wheel, like that was already perfected, having a steering wheel like a race car is not good for normal driving.
I really appreciate hasan mentioning that you should need a cdl to drive some of these trucks and SUV’s on the road. I drive motorcoach buses for a living and we have a suburban we use to do shift swaps. I find the 45 foot long busses much easier to drive and see blind spots than that damn suburban. The amount of blind spots in the average suburban should be illegal.
The crazy thing is every time I see a massive suburban it’s always some 5 foot tall soccer mom or 70 year old grandpa that hops out. It’s like they don’t feel like big boys and girls unless they drive a car too big for them
the hoods are getting longer, the cars themselves are getting longer and everything is so rounded, i have no issues with blind spots driving my 1995 truck. now there are people driving cars with the blind spots of semis who wouldn’t even check blind spots driving a small car.
I was literally told 2 days ago in a comment section, by two different Tesla fanbois, that resources (as in all of them) are infinite. I attempted to explain that all of a given resource in the universe would not be even a tiny fraction of an infinite amount, and also we only have access to an even tinier fraction of the total amount. This information was immediately rejected out of hand as being 'absurdly stupid', because 'resources are created every day'.
Bout to get a wild reality check when we run out of...
*checks list*
coal, oil, chocolate, HELIUM, FRESH WATER?!
Idk... I mean you're right, but also so are they in many ways. There are many resources that for all intents and purposes basically are unlimited for our use.
Like yeah we'll run out of coffee and chocolate and shit like that, not to mention oil, but it would take an eternity to run out of all the metals and minerals in just our solar system alone.
@@BooksReboundExcept that it’s not a trivial problem of HOW WILL WE GET THOSE RESOURCES? We have enough trouble digging up resources from our own planet, let alone being able to eventually, in the distant future, be able to mine other planets for resources. The amount of energy required to do a round trip while hauling resources will be such an enormous problem, I highly doubt it’ll happen.
It is faaaar easier to just treat the resources we have on Earth as the only resources we’ll have.

F cars. Build subways.

High speed rail, let's gooooo!
Can’t, the Subterraneans will not sign our current proposition nor broker a new deal to allow subways outside of a couple large cities. Sorry, they said definitely no cross continent subways either
I'm a Tesla owner and I agree
That would only work in major cities. For 90% of the country, that wouldn't be feasible.
17:40 I have to assume the amount of fuel you save through "drag reduction" by not having handles must be incredibly small, enough that it's probably offset by the litany of other things that make these cars prohibitively expensive for most people.
i remember a The Oatmeal webcomic that just called the retractable handles “futuristic” but i immediately thought it was stupid
It’s a funny argument, cause like it would only cost most people like a dollar or so every month so like who cares. Also it’s mostly electric cars that have these retractable handles, and at that point you’re dealing with that nuisance for a few cents every month
Drew with platinum hair makes him look so British. (not an insult)

Centre console screens should only do three things. Provide the screen for a backup camera, provide a visual GPS system, and media controls (assuming the driver also has steering wheel controls if it's to be used while driving).
We need to bring back more new cars that have a Manual Transmission and more physical buttons and levers for the most important car functions like changing gears, wipers, lights and so forth. Having a touch screen for all the functions kinda sux when your hands are wet or you are wearing gloves.
Manual transmissions are shit, automatic transmissions have so many advantages and are getting better every day. Manuals should go to the wayside. You're right about physical buttons and interfaces though. Touchscreens are shit.
No other country on the planet will allow Cybertruck on the road. Some aspects of the US’s relative relaxation of vehicle road worthiness is kinda cool - customisation and things allow for some creativity and a lot of craftspeople are very good so the vehicles can be safe. However the fact that Cybertruck is allowed on road makes me think that all leniency should be shut down. No more hot rods or choppers sorry. Elon ruined it for everyone.
Yeah, it’s so much is if there’s a reason for all this positions that he comes in a and let’s off in the name of consolidation for profits
F150 are built to use as a generator because they’re target. Demographic are usually contractors and construction workers. They’re always working on the road. Therefore usually the same demographic that has campers that are needed to be 8run on generators.
A physics professor once said, "The only way to guarantee a safe vehicle is to mount a steel spike in the center of the steering wheel. Because in the majority of accidents, the one at fault will receive a free lobotomy." Messed up, but....
Lol. That's not how reality works

Custom headlights here in Appalachia are out of control. Everyone has 125,000 lumen lights with 180 degree coverage I can’t see shit at night. I may hit someone but they won’t clip a mailbox
Agreed the custom light shit is ridiculous. Your basic headlight do not to be flash bang white and be brighter than cars normal lights
I remember when the first Teslas came out, and the extra crumple zones were lauded as amazing for safety. Fastforward to the Tesla Truck and they're more concerned about gunfire than regular traffic collisions
After seeing this, I have a new appreciation for my car. It has the big touchscreen, but all of my driving essentials are analog. I think I'd die if I had to move air vents via a touchscreen menu. Or literally die if I didn't have a real rear-view mirror.
literally one of the most satisfying things to do is fiddling with the controls without taking my eyes off the road. i hate that the temperature controls are only in the touch screen of one vehicle i drive often

My first car was a 1989 Honda Prelude (totaled it, as is tradition) and its interface for everything was glorious. It had a MULTIBAND PHYSICAL EQUALIZER built into the dash. I loved that car :)
I have an 88, it's so great. Some of the best visibility ever
You totaled a Prelude?! You rando commenter are dead to me!
"Despite such enormous dimensions, it is only a five seater, not offering a third row option."
I love the sass with which he says this 😂
I have a '97 Camry and i love it.
It's basic, reliable A-B transportation.
I'm in the marine instrumentation business, and as boat manufacturers turn to screens or MFDs, the consumers and average boaters want analog technology back.
As someone that works in the auto-industry, a lot of these changes are the results of cost-cutting. A lot of things in cars that were mostly/purely mechanical are changing to "by wire." This is because it is cheaper for the manufacturer if you change from park to drive via a button, dial, or touch screen than if you move a lever. To see a more extreme example of this, there is Tesla, where many basic functions of the car are moved from buttons on the center console to the giant "iPad" in the middle. Automakers, or OEMS, are moving more and more into the software space because it has lower up front capital investment than building out things such as tooling (think injection mold for plastic, or dies and presses for metal parts).
Drew's story about crashing because his car wouldn't go in the correct gear is part of why I love driving with a manual transmission. There's no fussing about, the car just does what you need to do and there's no second guessing what the car is doing. Every automatic I've ever driven had some weird "quirk" to it that got on my nerves.
Praying my 2004 Toyota Corolla never dies so I don’t have to buy a new car. I feel like there should be limits to the amount of computerization. I understand aiming for greater fuel efficiency, but I don’t want to worry about fighting for Right to Repair on my car.
I'm genuinely afraid I'll need a masters in computer science and a spare supercomputer just to do basic maintenance in 10 years
I just had to say goodbye to my 2001 model in Copenhagen. I don't know the conditions in your area but it's cold, dark and rainy 10 months a year here. If you manage the rust I think you can enjoy yours longer.

planned obsolescence
(also called built-in obsolescence or premature obsolescence) is the concept of policies planning or designing a product with an artificially limited useful life or a purposely frail design, so that it becomes obsolete after a certain pre-determined period of time upon which it decrementally functions or suddenly ceases to function, or might be perceived as unfashionable.
The rationale behind this strategy is to generate long-term sales volume by reducing the time between repeat purchases (referred to as "shortening the replacement cycle").
It is the deliberate shortening of the lifespan of a product to force people to purchase functional replacements.
saw my first cybertruck in real life the other day it truly made me want to die
I won't as long as I stay in Europe. It's illegal here. 😅
Let's be honest. The only people buying the cyber truck have too much money, not enough sense and desperately crave attention.
Wow touch screens are so easy to use and robust... We should put it on everything! I want my water temperature and pressure controls in the shower to be all electric and touch screen 🎉😅
I want my toilet and toaster to have touch screens
Elon Musk is like The Patient Zero of iPad BrainRot 😂
Drew’s intro problem is just another fault of automatics. You don’t know wtf is going on if they change one little thing with the transmission. In a manual (like most Europeans drive) you control every action. Yes it’s harder with clutch control and always having a secondary job while driving. but I feel automatics just encourage being an idiot. And also there’s many newer manuals that don’t even require clutch control that much, you take your foot slowly off the clutch and that will bring you forward alone in some of them instead of doing a seesaw like motion with your feet.
Driving with a clutch isn't even "hard". There's plenty of countries where even people with no education, who can't even spell their own name, manage to learn and do it on some of the worst roads ever driven by human
As an Indian, driving an automatic looks so dumb to us that we don't consider people who can drive an automatic as drivers😂
Personally I am happy automatic transmission is a thing because I am kind of forced to get a drivers license and be able to drive a car but given how much driving sucks and is terrible having another thing to worry about seems like a great reason to just not drive and just bike, bus, train, fly or leech off others instead.
I personally am driving automatics because they are just easier to learn and dont have to think as much when driving, but it doesnt mean that i think that everyone should drive automatic, thats stupid, neither so i like the wheel or button transmission change, it is horrible lmao
I can’t with the tangents he goes on 😂 28:14
Drew can rock any hair color.
If "conventional" door handles caused ANY kind of drag that was even measurable, you wouldn't see race cars with go pro cameras stuck all over them, as they'd be a disadvantage... think about it.
I hate society's general phasing out of buttons. I buy the same brand of earbuds when my old ones break. And the newest iteration replaced all the buttons with one single touch activated thing. It controls volume, play/pause, calling, everything and I hate it.
Chat kept saying “hit the brake” the car moving wasn’t the problem he didn’t need it to stop he needed to figure out how to reverse it
It’s not like it was moving out of control he clearly stopped the car with the brake in his recreation. It’s just that the car wasn’t doing what he needed to do
I agree. My car has buttons for shifting and even that is pushing it(literally).
I always appreciate a good pun, well played.

My last car was a 1976 Land Rover Series. Four gear sticks, and with the 4wd, overdrive and high low ratio it had over 20 forward gear configurations. This was a new car for me. Have never owned an automatic. Will do my best to never own one.
that sounds incredibly satisfying and fun to operate. i haven’t had a good chance to learn standard but id like to one day. plus they tend to be cheaper because fewer people want or even know how to drive them
@@LiarJudas666 super fun. It won’t go fast but it’ll go anywhere. The low ratio 4 wheel drive ate mountains. Will get another one of these days. As a driver you really need to be in tune with the car and everything.
I will hold on to my manual car as long as I can and will only buy manual transmission as long as they make them.
There will unironically be a future where people learn how to retrofit new cars with old controls because they are superior
Experiencing Lockstep Tesla owners is just like having to listen to your once-weightlifting buddy who recently discovered CrossFit. They are basically the same person, constantly flexing to you about their ultimately bad choices.
As a car audio installer, it's heartbreaking for customers then they learn that they need to spend about double the average price (some $1,000) for basic speaker swaps in 2022+ models bc factory speakers are integrated into their radio, warning chimes, and interior lights. The car detects a different electrical load with different speakers thinking they're blown, so the radio goes into protect mode and cuts off sound. So unless you wanna spend crazy bands to get bass or cleaner sound, you're stuck with okay speakers
I’m currently an automotive design engineer, specifically working on infotainment systems.. aka the large ipad in the middle of your car… can confirm the whole things a shit show. Its hard for users to create a mental model of your car’s functionality through a touch screen. This is for many reasons, but a big one is if a feature is not “first surface” aka one tap to get to it, then it often becomes “invisible” to the user. This is a big problem as first surface controls obviously have a limited space on a touchscreen, and unfortunately I dont see this being solved anytime soon. And DONT get me started on digital shifters. :|

In the newest corvettes, rather than a handle to open the door from the interior like every other car, theres an electronic button. How are you supposed to escape a car wreck if the battery is damaged without breaking your tiny windows?
I feel like having all car controls handled by software should be illegal. If being alive in the information age has taught me anyhting its that software has a shelf life. What happens when tesla isn't a company anymore, or what if they drop support for the early cars? The car is turned on via software. I hate to imagine a world where I lose a car because it stopped receiving firmware upgrades and got infected with malware. Or what if that malware actively puts me in danger while driving. It just seems like too much responsibility for a single company. I also thing not having hardware buttons should violate self repair laws. But no one in power gives a shit about self repair and actively pass legislation that allow companies to violate our right to repair.
I hate the precedent it sets to design, manufacture and have cars on the road with no crumple zone

Hasan has so many "favorite guys" it's impossible to keep track of at this point
"Why are cars getting dumber?"
Because it's cheaper for companies to make the screens instead of buttons. Just selling you less for a higher cost, a common quality in this economy.
This issue is by far my biggest boomer take. My dad is 77 years old and he laughs at me for how much I hate all the touch screen bullshit in cars. The only good thing to actually come out of all this "innovation" has been back up cameras and blind spot detectors, and those have been around for 10-15 years now

Touch screens should be banned completely from cars. Most people are stupid af, and this feature compounded with that is terrifying to think about when driving or even being a pedestrian.
Ok, so then we should ban ALL buttons and levers in the car. Want heat? too bad, YOU are too stupid to operate it. Want to turn? Woops, too bad, you have the IQ of a rock, so we can't POSSIBLY allow you to distract yourself. How is a physical button any different to one on a screen? Also Hasan: The Lexus Land Cruiser
LMFAO
if we are estimating 4,000 sold, then elon has made around $80M from the dumbass fees 💀
this guy speaks just like danny gonzales and like kurtis conner its insane
27:29 for has serfbrain rant
Me, a Toyota employee, feeling very validated right now.
Also, I worked at Tesla for 2 years before going to Toyota. Everyone I worked with, including myself, agreed we would never want to own a Tesla because the build quality is so bad.
Me. A Nissan fanboy felt some type of way this video lol. Btw I own a 2022 Nissan Frontier
I had a Toyota 4runner 2002 that had over 300,000 miles on it. Sold it to my parents last year when they sold me their Chevy Equinox because theyre retiring and wanted a new new car (got a 2024 blazer), sold dads Dodge work truck, and took my 4runner as a backup that they knew would probably last them as sort of a cheap safety vehicle through retirement. Not luxurious, not good for long road trips anymore, but itll still be there for them when they need it.
And i got a fantastic deal on a 2016 model car with heated seats. Everyone won. But i do miss my toyota some days. Lolol.
Congratulations?
Ops comment makes complete sense with the context of the video, given the amount of time hasan spends talking about toyotas and their longevity. What a weirdly petty and nonsensical rude response. Did you not watch the video? Do you have personal beef with this guy? What's going on here? Take your meds
Proud Rav 4 owner. Almost 300000 miles never had a problem that wasnt normal for an old car
When Hasan started riding for Toyota I remembered seeing a bumper sticker that said "Jeep, because Toyotas are for terrorists". 🤣
Anyone else remember headlights that folded up and down?
Tesla literally admitted to, what amounts to, testing the autopilot using actual customer data. Which means it's not a finished product
Don't use chome
Saw a Cyber truck in NYC yesterday. I initially thought it was a tank.
I'm 100% betting my life savings that the next car Hasan buys after his taycan lease is up, is going to be a Camry. Especially since the new gen actually looks pretty fun and has physical buttons for the AC and all the general features with the touchscreen exclusively for music, navigation, and the car settings.
My biggest flex is always being an elon hater. I remember some classmate showing me he really wanted this big red tesla when we was older and it looked like a toy car. Nothing’s changed, the toy just got uglier
I love that the most prevalent element on earth is expensive to both find and use as fuel
I would unironically do horrible things if I could get a perfect condition '90s Toyota
