    Welcome to spoiler season for patch 3.25: Settlers of Kalguur! The 3.25 expansion release date is 26 July.
    Grinding Gear Games have posted official teasers at www.pathofexil... - I'll be breaking them down.
    Today we have three things:
    Aura/Herald/Reservation QOL that is of limited use for Hardcore players
    Strong evidence of a Determination nerf
    Circumstantial evidence that defenses are getting a general reshuffle, something I've advocated for for a while.

    Before teaser season really starts, just want to say thank you for being such a force in the PoE community. So many leagues gone by where I'll see the changes, start thinking about what they mean for the game myself, and ultimately end up on your channel to fill the gaps and get new perspective. Always been good vibes all around.

    If they tune down physical overwhelm I take any nerf to determination. It's ridiculous that a Juggernaut built for physical defense can tank any kind of elemental or chaos damage, but can still be oneshotted by physical damage.

      The question is: should a well-built character be threatened at all during normal farming at endgame? If yes, that threat needs to come from the potential to get oneshot. Because if such a character doesn't get oneshot, it's back to full life immediately. That's the state of PoE1.

      ​@@burningpipe2627You are missing the point here. Phys overwhelm makes any defence against phys that isn't 'phys taken as' meaningless. What's the point of having 90% phys mitigation when enemies can literally ignore 50%+ of that regularly. Imagine the same concept for elemental damage.

      ​@@Zevraelby that logic we would also need enemies that ignore all elemental resists. If a character has invested so much into defences that they can AFK in endgame maps they kind of deserve it. We have and had alot of immortal builds so they can't be the metric of damage balance everywhere.

      I want them to keep it at sensible numbers. We have a map mod, minus 9-12% max player resists. That's a good number - scary but not unreasonable. Similar should exist on overwhelm

      @sirgog I agree to an extent, the problem with overwhelm is you don't control when you encounter it. You control when you do a map with -max, you control when you do a delve node with ele pen mods, but you don't control when a rare bone construct instantly kills your character because it was on the edge of your screen and you didn't notice it had phys overwhelm on a character with over 100k phys max hit.(happened to me)

    Like sirgog says in the video, we need more context of other changes to player defences in the patch notes. Just nerfing determ doesn't make a whole lot of sense at the moment. But the player defences need some changes, because im honestly tired of rolling the same supress gear on every league start character for like a year now

      @@tumbleryumbler8211 I've felt for a while that blocking should work the same way that Spell Suppression does. 100% to block gives a 50% reduction to physical damage taken and then just not allow the two to be combined.

      @@HorizonVertigo Spell suppression should either be removed from the game or completely reworked, introducing another defensive layer that works identically to it but for other damage type is a terrible idea sir

      @@Casevil669 We already had another defensive layer, geared towards evasion builds - spell dodge. Simply make it a regular defense on regular passive nodes and gear, instead of the weird conversion via a keystone we have it as now.

      @@Casevil669 What?? Suppression is literally better dodge, right side of the tree makes no sense thematically without it. I dont care if you have to pick it on your left side builds, you should get something else to compensate. And that is actually block, but block feels so bad, unless they buff it ( ppl are often forced to get glancing blows ).

    Armor is balanced around determination+grace. Determination+Grace needs a total redesign - and armor passives (and maybe even base values) need help.

    Since they changed Determination / Grace I have been saying they should give less or no flat defense and a higher percentage more. It should be giving incentive to run more of those defense not providing you with the defense on its own.

      they give like 50-60% atm with flat increase so you'd probably need a lot of % as you don't get insane amount from gear tell later.

      would be funny if they put Lightning Coil and Cloak of Flames into higher tiers or items, thus making drops - for body armors and div cards - much more rare

    if they are not changing monster physical damage, this will be bad, if they are changing monster physical damage, i believe this could be cool for build diversity and melee builds especially that usually use armour as defences.

    Maybe they are adding transfigured auras and they nerfed the normal version as a consequence.

      Determination of Glass Cannon: You and nearby allies lose 1131 armour. 50% less armour. You and nearby allies gain 30% more damage. Reserves 50% of mana.
      Determination of the Determined: You and nearby allies gain 2262 armour. 50% more armour. Reserves 70% of mana.
      Determination: You and nearby allies gain 1131 armour. 50% more armour. Reserves 50% of mana.

    More choices are good. My feeling is that if it is bad for HC players then it's the most likely thing to happen. Usually I've been aiming for around 25k-30k AR when using Determination for keeping a character alive through end game.

      I think they could make it a stat like +25% to minimum physical reduction against overwhelm or something like that to bring it along the lines of elemental ailments.

      I think something that they could throw Gladiator is 'Hits you Block cannot reduce your resistances.' Only issue is, of course, that this is a very spiky mitigation layer at that point.
      Juggernaut should, indeed, get 'your physical resistance (from Armor only?) cannot be overwhelmed'.

      ​@@NemisCassander imo putting it on an ascendancy is basically the same as "just convert lul", because it doesn't really address the problem.
      (unless there's more or less one option per class.)
      also putting it on block for glad is kinda irrelevant because on glad you don't usually go glancing blows so you don't take damage from blocked hits in the first place.
      afaik overwhelm is effectively penetration but capped at 0, it doesn't debuff you.

    92% mana reservation efficiency is unachievable with just the passive tree, but if my napkin math is correct, a 50% aura linked to an Level 4 Enlighten w/ 69% mana reservation efficiency from tree/gear, you'd get a reservation cost of 26.04.

    Defences should have more variety. I think the should add trans gems to auras that offer some other options. Like phys dmg taken as fire to purity of fire, so you are not so forced to certain unique items. Overall trans gems for auras would be welcome addition if they want to balance defenses.

    I wrote a Javascript script for calculating possible combinations of reservation efficiency + empower + enlighten, it is possible to achieve 26.04% with 35% base reservation 29% efficiency and level 2 enlighten(0.96) and no empower.(other results didn't make sense, so no reason to mention them)

      Um, empower can’t raise Enlightened Gem level. 29% is odd as all tree reservation efficiencies are even #s. That being said, if you take every mana reservation on the tree and use a level 4 Enlighten, you’d still be shot of 92%. 🤣

    Friendly remind that the most expensive currency in this (all) game is *TIME*, you spend your *TIME* to buy *FUN*. (except RMTers, it's their work)

    It's cool that they showcased chaos dot. On dot builds, the ground dot or debuff you inflict has a weaker effect if you die, since your auras get disabled. But now you squeeze a bit more damage in. It's a meh interaction, but it's just interesting that they showed this random synergy. And who knows, maybe they actually rework dots now ( my copium is running out ggg, please do it fast )🤣

    Honestly the amount of damage types and various affixes that ignore "insert x" in your defense is like 5x too high in PoE... it shoehorns players into a few viable meta builds and/ or you just need to accept the fact you will get 1-shot and lose 2 hours of exp grind
    A "reset" of this craziness in poe 2 is most welcome, I just hope the game won't go in same direction

    I do think that auras are getting number nerfs, but also mana reservation nerfs... if you look none of those auras are linked. I base my prediction on the discipline aura... It's linked to a gem and reserves life. I tested with arrogance and usually it reserves 70% life but on the video it looks it's reserved less than that. So it either arrogance is getting adjusted or reservation, gets adjusted. Just thoughts

      its the same shit theyve done for years:
      - nerf something massively
      - add a way to gain back some of the power in the upcoming league borrowed power gimmick
      - remove said power when league ends or nerf that heavily if it gets added to core
      - hope everyone forgot about it and move on to the next thing(s) to nerf

    Never use determination at least this past 3-2 leagues phys taken is more sensible choice,all good,I don't feel losing anything here.

      The only case you want determination while also stacking phys taken as is when armour is part of your offensive ability,like on armour stacker for example

      @@NKB_POEfor any of the several effects in the game that allow armour to apply to non-physical damage (eg Transcendence, Unbreakable, Fourth Vow). A bunch of phys taken as ele with Transcendance, Loreweave, and a bunch of armour is one of the best defensive setups in the game.

      Cool... but phys taken build sucks compared to armor build until you have your gear setup.
      Determination is just a gem.
      So armor setup just works.
      Adding in phys taken as you go is great but I wouldn't even consider a full switch until like level 94.

    I would love to see an overwhelm nerf. There are builds like totems or poison minions that really need that body armour slot, and it just feels bad when you kind of need it for defenses. Especially since lots of (the better) minion builds don't have minions that tank for you in Path of Exile (like SRS).

    Problem with armor is that GGG's insistance that higher the hit, less effective the armor should be. And the fact that how hard Armor is to stack without determination, even on a dedicated armor build like aegis aurora (which generally can have 70k-100k with investment). It is just "unreliable" considering the variability in this game. And that is the last kind of defence you want. Thats why you get phys as chaos/elemental. As they ALWAYS work, you know what they're doing. Stack that with avoidance based migitation like evasion or block and you actually have enough physical migitation so you dont die often. Still the scale is so broken in this game, difference of damage taken can be as high as an order of magnitude or higher for the same content. Their game is broken, i hope they recognize that instead of just nerfing FOTM skills.

      @@sirgog i dont think non-t17 maps require much migitation at all. I was thinking of T17s or delve or, you know anything that actually hits hard. I always feel my defense is inconsistent when relying on armor. I dont feel that way with conversion, which is why i play high ES builds with high evasion and leech, only migitation being conversion and arctic armor.

    Great video. Subscribed. I think the one shot mechanics have gone too far in the game. They need to move more to big hits but not one shots and nerf recovery IMO so that you don't get one shot, but you need to use skill to avoid too many hits because you cannot recover well as before. I have always played SSFHC until this league and it seems to move that insanely aggressive one shot mechanics and DOT effects that can't be mitigated have become too common.

    I don't see how Determination was too strong. People were not stacking Lightning Coil, Original Sin, ETC because Determination was too strong, they were stacking them because Armor mitigation is to unreliable. Now all anyone will do is say these items like Lighting Coil is now required. Also, a Determination nerf is once again a nerf to melee. I don't think I am going to play PoE until they stop nerfing melee every damn league. I am so sick and tired of it. They can't fix it, but they can make it a hell of a lot better. Instead they keep nerfing melee. Melee hasn't been fun for over a year, and the whole game is starting to feel like that's exactly what they want of PoE 1. Say oh no we want everyone to play PoE 1, then chase people away by slowing making the whole game unfun.

    Phys defense in POE sucks today. You just can't rely on armor with that much overwhelm, less aura effect and less armor effects in the game. You just do something else - redirect physical to anything else. Lightning Coil or Cloak of Flames are extremely popular armors due to their 50% conversion. Add taste of hate and a helmet with implicits and perhaps a watcher's eye mod for purity aura and you'll have like 80% redirect to elemental. Now you're well protected against phys. Without touching Armor at all lol.

    bold of you to assume they will balance armor overwhelm at all (maybe with community outcry like normal).
    the root problem isn't any of these systems, the root comes from the "threat" of monsters being able to one shot you in the first place.
    if the root is flawed, everything built upon it isn't going to be stable.
    put simply, they are not solving the problem, they are just shifting it to something else. it's so they can say they are trying.
    POE1 is going to be thrown into the dumpster once POE2 is out, there is no doubt.

    Determination is already pretty bad. Otherwise not everyone would play taste of hat and lightning coil and other shit, making 90% of phys as elemental. Spell suppress needs to get a hit and evasion is too strong. That's why everyone is ignoring armour as much as they can. No linear curve in defense and so many armour ignore mobs in game that it's almost useless to build besides hardcore. Clearly the wrong approach but they will fix it like arch nemesis. Just takes them 2 years. Like always everything else is op. Nerf left side tree and melee with I. This will be horrible.

    I am hoping for some new ward unique gear. Just so it is clear scaling flat damage through ward is the most flat damage that you can scale, (not counting archmage). More than 2000 to 2000 flat chaos damage. Yes you will lose the defensive potential of your ward. But you can still have ES and life. Then of course we have olroth, the best defensive item in the entire game. Standard legacy can get more than 4000 ward, while olroth is up. That is -4000 damage from all attack. Wow a 100k hit. Good thing I suppressed that hit. 50k Good thing I got 90 res. So it is 5k Good thing I olroth -4000. 1000 damage. 😅 Yeah you can combine this with even more defence layers, the more layers the safer.

    determination was never good. Physical damage mtigiation in poe unless you stack endurance charges felt bad. you invest 1 aura and defence scaling in the passive tree just to mitigate 1 out of 5 damage typs while spell supression works on 50% of all damge taken in maps. and now its even worse than before. sure there are characters with over 10 m armor possible but all of them are just aura bots. equipping just lighting coil or cloak of flames is better vs big hits than scaling armor to like 40k with 200% inc armor in passive tree ( and most of the armor nodes exluding the hybrid es ones are just bad). i dont feel good even if i craft a good piece with like 2000 armor... becasue yous still suffer fom physical as extra random element map mods. this extra damge will fuck you up. ( evasion far superior)

    Blight of contagion is the skill and the numbers suggest lvl24, so you're probably correct on all counts.
    Essentially its going to be 6-8 gem lvl reduction to Determination and Grace and if they then reduce converted phys to element without nerfing monsters then I think a lot of hardcore players won't be very happy lol.
    To me its a poor move, other than trying to remove armour from the right side of the tree and evasion from the left it does nothing to change the issues with the game which is the need for the conversion and defence layer wrangling in the first place. POE's fascination with sudden and random difficulty spikes aka death IS the reason why the game is always broken with a new meta.
    But hey, without ruining the game all the time, what content would you guys have to put out? where would all the free advertisement come from? ;-)

      It's as powerful as it was in 3.16 when it was a boot crushing build diversity. Like >90% use, so OP that the first way to improve a build not using it was to pick a 50% aura at random, remove it & replace it with Determ - bingo, build got better.
      GGG failed to nerf it and so to make monsters fun to fight (i.e. capable of killing players) they gave the monsters ways to ignore armor - hence the mess we have now.

    Why determination is so required is because this defensive layer as well is one of like 10 different mitigation systems you must spend several affixes/gemslots to cap. I wish POE stopped focusing on having so many different defensive layers. It does not add anything to the enjoyment or gearing and just further makes it hard for the to balance survivability as there are so many different layers affecting effective HP and even someone with them all must risk dying. This inevitably causes all of us to go glass cannon to progress. Preferably glass cannon with MF. This is a playstyle I ABSOLUTELY DETEST but I am forced to play it as the progression is simply 2-3 times as fast and also getting more loot than also trying to fix all of the defensive affixes as well. It would cost 10-20 times more currency and time spent to maximize those affixes and gemslots too.
    This is due to poor game designed and a misunderstanding of the intent. Having more defensive layers available like this is only, like the rest of the game, a gross unrequired overpopulation of choices that all does absolutely nothing to the feel of the game. They are just there. Crowding the same area for absolutely no purpose. They should consolidate some of the defensive layers and let us have more fun on the items. I would like my items to be 4-6 affixes for fun. Not 2-3 defensive affixes and ~1 MF. This leaves very little wiggle room. This needs to be adressed. I want this power fantasy game to be what it is supposed to be. POE1 is an unbalanced monster blaster power fantasy game. Stop trying to make it into a LULZ DARK SOULS ELITISTS ONLY PLAYZZZZZ SO HARD. It isnt. I oneshot all content. My blaster that killed the devils dies from 1 angry goat who's projectile could not be seen because of visual clarity being as bad and bloated as the rest of the game. That is how the game is balanced despite years of their best attempts.

      There's still variety in defensive layers. I've got a health stacker with no armor/evade/es, suppress and barely any phys taken as but it can still afk in t17's. There's lots of trickster builds that are very tanky that run no armour. You can play a 100% phys taken as fire build so you don't run any armour. There's loads of other examples of t17 viable builds who don't stack 10 different defensive layers that are still relatively tanky. Imo when you would cut down different defensive layers it would only hurt build diversity, just make them more competitive with eachother.
      I agree it takes alot of affixes to fix your defenses on a league start or budget build but once you're making divs you can start to offload them to flasks, clusters, jewels, etc. Which makes sense in my eyes

    Phys to element will always be better. Elemental resistances have a linear mitigation curve while armour has not. So it's easier to get 90% phys to element as it is to mitigate 90% of a pure Phys hit. That's why everyone is taking these items. You are just wrong. Slot in a chest and a flask on the right side of the tree and you gain another spell suppress without spending a single point in armour nodes. Right side gets everything again and left side gets nerfed for it. We seen it so many times. They never address the real defense problem. Getting hit for 90k Phys and mitigating 90% of it is worse than not getting hit for 70% of the time and when you get hit, you only take 10% of the damage. Armour being stronger as evasion spell suppress is just wrong. Armour is trash because it can't function on its own with all the other layers of defense like spell suppress, what you get hit the most in late game? Everything is a spell. And armour don't do shit against elemental, despite playing jug with 1 million armour that no normal build gets, or chieftain for fire. And even chieftain abuse Phys to elemental. It is not an armour problem. That will fuck melee even more than they usually do every season. I want to play slams, but I for sure will be playing Spellcaster right side with broken shit after hearing this. Streamer build it is baby.

    been saying it for years. the tree should have more armour/evasion options, and gear should provide much more armour/evasion. in return, grace/determination and defensive flasks should be nerfed
