Questioning my own mortality by recently being diagnosed with Lupus, i stored the fear in the back of my head. This morning i woke to remembering them sing this song in concert. I was too young to understand the lyrics,but i do now. Im listening to it for the 3rd time, crying into the dishwater and screaming. These lyrics have been how i feel sincd I got sick. There's a lot of good music out there, but what's always made Blink 182 stand out to me was the fact that their songs are an amazing canvas for memories. Good times, bad times, fun, loneliness, love, lost love... There's something there for everyone, and while the songs are good on their own, they're infinitely better once stamped onto a moment in your life. This particular song reminds me of a girl I met online. I wasn't looking for a relationship and neither was she, but we'd both just ended awful ones and happened to really enjoy hanging out online and talking. We were worlds apart -- she lived in central Canada, and I lived in the US, on the east coast. She was in a shitty situation in college, and I was in a job I absolutely hated. Even so, we always found time to meet up and talk the hours away. It was our way of coming up for air. Against all odds and every challenge, she eventually flew down to visit me -- and I still remember the first time I saw her in the airport. I remember the laughs, good times, and crazy adventures. I remember the visit that turned into a three month stay, and then a six month stay. I remember how sick we both felt when those six months were almost up, and how our last week together had all the ambience of a funeral. And then, I remember sitting in the airport with her before her flight. We cracked jokes, smiled, and hoped that we didn't show the other how intensely sad we were. I remember helping her load her luggage into the baggage check area, having one last hug, and then watching her walk away before a long, dark car ride home. I never knew if I'd see her again, and my place felt like a graveyard. I'd get home at around 4AM from my night-shift job, and there was no one there to greet me. It was tough for both of us. We worked our asses off to build up savings for another trip, but even then, it'd be almost half a year before she could come back...and a lot happens in that time -- and then, six months apart ended up turning into a year apart. That was so long ago, but it feels like it happened just yesterday...and this June will be our five-year wedding anniversary.

I went on August 31st, 2016 in Grand Rapids, MI, and they played this song. I cried but screamed every single word to the song. death is hard yet this song still helps. If I could say goodbye to my grandpa and thank you to blink. I would, but I don't think I ever will.
