- Last week we arrived to the Salar de Uyuni, the biggest salt flats in the world. incredible 10.000 square km of empty whiteness. an exceptional journey.
This week we embark got a real challenge on one of the most famous stretch along the panamerican highway, the laguna route. This trail rallies the South of Bolivia to the North of Chile over 500km. On the Altiplano we are never under 4000m and there is no water or gaz station available. It is known for its brutal temperatures and insane winds. Well at least we do not do that alone! We are going with an adventurous group of travelers. 2 troopies and a DUCATO. Don’t judge the van it will impress you!

Well you have a quite capable off-road machine hahahahaha really at some point with nick we thought ... why do we have a 4x4 if we can have the comfort and the capacity ? eventually a bit later (next episode)there is a track or two they they could not complete but still!

I have to admire all four couples who made the decision to explore the planet. It takes a special kind of person who has the confidence and the desire to undertake such a huge adventure. It would be interesting to delve into the backgrounds to see what, in particular, shapes a person to even consider doing something like this. I love to travel and explore but this far exceeds anything I would ever do. More credit to you and the other three couples. After playing over two hours of tennis this morning, it's a treat to come home to watch your weekly postings.
Whooohoo tennis is the best! Good job. That s something I find interesting because we meet people with such diverse backgrounds … all ages all professions all budgets … it s hard to pinpoint that drive for long travel.

Oh yay for more cumbia. It was very fitting to go with the drive across that plain and the fun pizza party. The native american flute or whatever that was was a good choice for driving in the canyon or valley. It gave the feeling of isolation and remoteness. The geysers and hot springs were so surprising there. I didnt know that. Those animals following you at the end were so cute!!! Alpacas?

hi Christopher! we thought about it and were actually looking forward to it but then we met some other travellers and backpackers who mentioned it was not necessarily as interesting as before as many people now do it by bicycle etc. and that we certainly had made more impressive road already. so we balanced everything and decided against. maybe we should have but with those feedbacks we did not regret it too much. it does seem superb though.

What a remarkable route and stunning landscapes. Some of those skies were artworks in pastel. But in all that empty wilderness, there are still officious parking attendants! Some things are the same the world over.

As a child, driving up to ski from Laguna Niguel up Highway 395 to June MTN and later Mammoth, I gazed out the windows and just looked and looked at the geology and the cinder cones, the ancient lava flows,.and the 14000 foot peaks like Mt Whitney on one side and the White mountains on the East side, in the Owens valley.
I just love to observe our magnificent Nature. Cheers!

Fantastic video, vous deux!! The "dubbing" of the intros of your friends made us laugh. That first view of a laguna with flamingos was a big wow (aside from all the other "wows"). Very surprising to us that flamingos can live at such high elevations in the cold! The terrains you all pass through are so amazing; if I were to make such a journey (in anther lifetime), I'd definitely want a geologist companion!
Plus what a bonding experience for you and your friends; how amazing to experience this with a group of fellow adventurers!

Great adventure and video as always. We have a ducats motorhome and definitely wouldn't take it to places like that. Mind you ours is just over 8m with the bikes on the back and pretty much 3.5T.

This is the first time I've heard of warming engines with the sun after a chilly night. Do you notice a difference when doing that? Also, excellent job adapting to the bad audio. Another great adventure video!
We were alright but on these routes of the altiplano it is a common technic otherwise the engines are too cold to start. So the earliest they are in the sun the better. Some friends had to wait a few hours as the engine would not start and they were in the shade

Always a refreshing treat to come to your channel and see mindblowing landscapes, such as the out-of-this-world colouring of the lagunas. But what really gave me the wow factor was the panning of the running vicuña juxtaposed against the racing auto-nomads, all traipsing through the windwracked wilds of the Bolivian wasteland. Yes they are amazing! We were kind of looking forward seeing them legs frozen up in the water in the morning (it happens!!!) but there was too much wind on the lagunas when we were there

Wonderful video - the missing sound didn't even matter! That lagunas route looks amazing - can't believe the colours. I remember from working in El Alto outside La Paz how cold it gets at night - out in the mountains, it must have been even more intense. Happy travels in Chile!

Brrrrrr that sounds extremely cold! 🥶 we d say alternate both! We find amazing travelling with people but after a bit we always like to be back just the two of us. It is more relaxed hahahahaha and then after a long time just the two of us we crave being a group again. Humans … never satisfied hahaha
It must’ve been so very irritating to find you had a sound problem when you came to edit your video, especially as it was a journey you were sharing with friends in their vehicles. Nevertheless, this has been a wonderful video to watch. Such amazing scenery It hardly needed words, and just felt totally immersed in the experience.

no really ... we had no problem mostly except our diesel heater but the car itself started like a charm. the cold and dryness were more of a problem

We have an extra fuel tank + we took an extra jerrycan. We were fine.

Insane yes! But Jon and Nadine are also very smart driver they know the limits of the van and push when they know it can go through. Obviously with us they can be a bit more adventurous as they know we can get them out but overall very smart drivers
