Therion es una banda sueca de Symphonic Metal formada y liderada por el guitarrista y compositor Cristopher Johnsson en 1988 bajo el nombre de Megatherion, aunque poco tiempo después reduciría su nombre a Therion que significa Bestia en griego, aunque realmente el nombre es en honor a la banda de Metal Celtic Frost. Su sonido en un principio era basado en el Death Metal puro pero paulatinamente fue mutando hacia una especie de Doom Death que posteriormente se convertiría en Symphonic Metal, género del cual son considerados pioneros al mezclar los sonidos agresivos del Metal con la música clásica y contando con toda una orquesta sinfónica como apoyo, sus álbumes son conceptuales haciendo diferentes referencias a diversas culturas y mitologías.
