I didn’t see that pair, but I loved the elegance of it by the setter, and it’s great to see how your sudoku brain works too! I would’ve enjoyed finding it, but I learn from watching. I also saw the XYZ wing that some other folk have mentioned 👍
I think one of the things that distinguishes my puzzles from those of the masters is the intricacy of the logic. I'm good at finding order, but the logic is generally a matter of chance. With the same basic layout, it can vary from incredibly easy to incredibly difficult (71 = row 7 column 1): 71, 76, 45, 65, 84, 67, 47, 63, 15, 95, 16, 94, 96, 54, 56, 58, 12 (hidden DCE / mini X-Wing), 27, 32, 36, 26, 17, 43 (hidden XY-Wing, boxes 4 and 7; different from the one in the video), 69, 38, 59, 49, 48, 41, 83, 51, 52, 73, 21, 23, 92, 93, 78, 98, 19, 25, 34, 29, 14, 37, 39, 87, 89, 74, 85, 72, 61, 62, 81. @@SmartHobbies That's a good idea. Sometimes the HoDoKu grading I post may be based on customised settings, and so may differ from the grading with the default settings.
You sure this shouldn't be labeled medium? Unless this is a speed contest? I went more or less straight through, cornermarking, centermarking, placing digits, etc. I found one advanced position, a 359 XYZ-wing in blocks 4 and 7. It removed a 5 from R5C2. leaving 16. That was before I finished centermarking the grid, and I suspect it was superfluous. A 458 triple in column 8 collapsed the puzzle. From there, it was all unraveling centermarks. The green cell? I centermarked it 13, and 3 was placed with the unraveling. 8:00 You are right, Step 4 is the hardest step. I didn't find the 39 pair until I found the 458 triple. Just now, backtracking to the triple, I see that the XYZ-wing was critical rather than superfluous. Placing 6 in R5C8 let me place 1 in R5C2, and unravel the puzzle. 16:10 I can see the XYZ-wing that I used. The Y-wing wasn't available then, because I used the XYZ-wing much earlier. R5C2 had 156, and the XYZ-wing removed the 5. Much later, after I'd forgotten the result of the XYZ-wing, the column 8 work removed the 6 and placed the 1.
Done 156 triple in row 2 38pair in col5 Single 7 at R1C6 46 and 58 pair in row2 458 triple in col8 and 39 pair To conclude XY wing 13,15,35 in boxes 4 and 7. That's all. Let me watch ur solve now.
