    Hahahah I havent been to your curriculum videos in a long while. It is really fun to see youve been using some of the same ones as we do. MCT (all 5 strands), Torchlight(Lit and history only), and NightZookeeper are our languages arts programs. We've been using Harbor and Sprout . They are unit studies. So amazing. We use it for Art, Music, Science, Nature Study, and sometimes we add on an extra bit of History and or Geography. All from H&S.

    Torchlight has been one of those curriculums I see educators speaking about constantly in their homeschool space, I can tell it's a favorite and I love the literature importance it builds. And socratic/ discussion based learning is our jam!! Thanks for the flip through! I also have a kiddo who just isn't into writing, and that's always been our struggle subject. In my experience the last year, the writing portion of MCT Island level is all creative writing and not super strict in what it calls for. There's tons of room to just get ideas onto paper, there's no rubric or firm structure. I got a lot less push back for these prompts than I have for writing activities I'd introduced in the past 😅

      I spent my first 2 homeschool years stressing SO much about pushing Writing ,,, It was like pulling teeth to even just get my eldest to try and put some ideas together for a short, tiny story ..I just stopped trying , he'll sometimes use his phone and dictates his stories then we just go back and correct grammar together, which has worked but my husband and I both agreed that we (him and I ) didn't get into creative writing or any kind of writing till HighSchool.. We both took Creative writing classes in Highschool so it wasn't until we actually showed interest in it ourselves .. So I don't push writing at all , if it comes to them then awesome !

      @@HomeschoolOfBelAir I felt really stressed to push writing in the beginning of our homeschool journey, too 😩 my oldest looked at it as torture and I definitely didn't want those feelings to follow him and discourage him from trying other challenging things. Taking a step back has been the best idea for us, and it sounds like you guys have a great take on how it works in your home, too 💛 Also I think all of my favorite interests peaked in high school 😆

    We tried TL for Kindergarten and it did not work for us. My little just did not absorb the lessons and it just felt more like a book list as opposed to an actual curriculum. However, I am very interested in this level because of the art of Rock n' Roll and the SS/Civics. Thank you so much for doing a flip through.

      In all honesty,, I have kept an eye on Torchlight since my daughtler was going to start Preschool and it always seemed too excessive for such Young children.. my daughter just didnt care too much for History and Science so I usually have to keep that pretty basic and short.. I will say I do prefer the upper levels like even level 4, i had my eye on that one but never ended up getting it . Im super excited to get this one rolling..

    Thank you for this great review! Is the science portion more of a socratic discussion based teaching or is it more independent?

    • @HomeschoolOfBelAir
      @HomeschoolOfBelAir  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its a bit Discussion based but its also pretty hands on ,, I wouldnt consider it Independent at all though.. Pesonally I feel like its pretty Teacher intensive .. I'll will try and post more of a flip through of that soon

    Have you done all the previous levels of Torchlight as well? I'm looking for something for my 6 year old and curious what the lower levels are like. Thanks!

    • @HomeschoolOfBelAir
      @HomeschoolOfBelAir  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No,, this is the first year that Im introducing Torch Light... From my understanding and the lower levels are very History Heavy and based,, Ive never been interested in introducing History topics till 3 rd grade or at least until they show some interest . So I never got them. Every year its on my options list cause it has always intrigued me.The topics this year where just too good and were topics I was already looking into covering this year so it just worked out.
