    Just subbed. Also just got my XDM Elite last month. LOVE IT!! One bit of advise for a bear gun. NO DAMNED OPTIC! Wont have time to sight anyway. If its close enough to hurt you its close enough to " point" shoot in the face . Alaska bushman, 38 years. Multiple attacks & in 2 long range attacks only then was i able to use the sights. And even then i was aiming at where the bear would be when the slug struck. Not where they were at. ( 45/70 lever gun, NO OPTIC!) Bears move so damned fast youll be lucky to have more than 3 seconds, usually less. If you cant pull/ shoot almost instantly your in a world of hurt. Only SURE bear instant stopping shot is in the brain. Once adrenalized & pissed they can still kill you even with their heart/ lungs shot clean out before they finally die. Putting my Elite through its paces i put 4 in a 5 inch circle with 2 double taps @ 15 yards using 220 grain Underwood WFNHC coated slugs in just a tad over 1 second from pull to 4th round. And im an OLD little guy w small hands. ( smallest backstrap) This guns natural " point of aim" is incredable. Best ive ever known w ANY pistol. Very impressed & retired my 454 Casull. ( Ruger redhawk full sized) Its a beast to handle with slow recovery. Heavy too & a pain to carry. Now i know why the 10mm is taking over Alaska as THE backup handgun in bear territory. Lots think a bears skull is bulletproof, its NOT. No tougher than ours is. Bears skull/brain is below its eyes. Up the nose, in the eye or just under the ear is a solid brain splatter shot. Even a 22 L.R. can kill a grizzly up the nose. I wouldnt recommend it but i carry an LCP II in 22 L.R. for just that final in my face emergency if the rifle or 10mm cant be used 1st. With my open sights i can tag a non moving 8 inch steel pretty good too even with my old man glasses. Use heavy bear slugs only. Not impressed with the Buffalo Bore monometals. The Underwoods put just as deep a dent & shoot smoother & straighter. Prob the coating makes the slug exit easier. Less recoil. Course the Underwoods compleatly splatter on the 3/4 inch thick stainless steel plate but that wont happen with only flesh & bone. Love your channel. No B.S. & straight to the point. If i get attacked again, id like you w me. Poor bear wouldnt have a chance in hell of getting either of us. And my amazing wife can cook bear to die for. Best barbeque ever made. 😁

      @@buckslayer7387 , For you & Volst. I forgot some important stuff. 1st, Black bears are FAR more dangerous than Grizzlies are. Ambush hunters who hit from behind & instinctively go for the head/ spine to paralize 1st & then eat you alive. THEY scare me, grizzlies don't. When they run off it's usually to circle around for a better ambush position. Once they're as big or bigger than you standing up WE are considered food to them. They're sneaky as hell & can move quiet as ghosts. 2. Most of a bears brain is for it's nose. Hurt that bad enough & it shorts out their brain. Some bushman have saved their lives by attacking the bear back, grabbing it's head & biting off their nose when blindsided & they couldn't bring their guns into play first. Most of us carry long thin blades knives or spikes in both boots to ram into their eyes into the brain. One on either side in case the bear has us by one arm. 3. SHOOT EM IN THE FACE! Not the head but the FACE. ALL that mass above the eyes is just jaw muscles & blowing holes in that just makes em madder. 4. Bears can jump like grasshoppers. Many times walking up a trail in a bears tracks the tracks just ended. They'll jump up & sideways into the thick cover & land facing you just a few feet away laid out flat to watch you walk past. You can SMELL them! They STINK! Like to roll in rotted carcusses & other bears poop piles. If you can smell them they're close. Attack close. They know how to use cover for a stalk too. Will go from tree to tree using it for cover to sneak up on their targets. 5. Look UP as you travel. Blackies will hide up a tree & jump on you from above. 6. Above all. NEVER GO OUT UNARMED! THIS cannot be stressed enough. Bears are always armed, we should be too. And finally, the bushman's choice of rifles is the lever action 45/70s. The extreamly fast lock time is critical in a multi bear attack & with the right bear loads will do the job. I had to put triple magnum kickpads on mine. The hot loads are almost 458 power & the recoil is huge. Not fun to shoot but a sore shoulder is better than being mauled. During an attack you'll never feel the recoil until AFTER the bear is down & your not. I hope you folks will never have to deal w any of this stuff but it's always a possibility out here in the bear/ moose woods. I went 7 years w/o an attack after many many encounters but in year 8 was attacked 3 times. Go figure. Course we live in the heart of bear central out here in the Alaskan bush. Have both blacks & griz all over the place. Interesting place! 😁 Still beats living in town thou.....

      I know what you mean Mike. I'd also like ammo makers to look at it harder. Say, a hard cast, flat point bullet of about 160 grains at about 1,000 fps. It'd penetrate like gang-busters and if the flat point is broad would cut a good wound channel without having to worry about HPs opening up. Roy H.

    I have this gun and a rock island and a Glock in 10 mm still trying to figure out why with Glock they want you to have to change your barrel for bear loads which means more exspence added to this gun right off. I feel if I buy a gun in a certain caliber it should be able to shoot any ammo in that caliber. I really satisfied with my Springfield and didn’t have to worry about changing anything to shoot the ammo it’s chambered for.

    • @fmgpubs
      @fmgpubs  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jack, not sure (perhaps someone can wade in here) but I think stock Glock barrels don’t shoot lead well (it can increase pressure), so if your heavy 10mm load is hard cast lead, they’d likely want you to change the barrel. I agree on the Springfield. Mine seems to shoot everything fine. Roy H.

      That’s a good point, Tim, but it does take a lot of practice to get to where you can control a gun like that fast. I’ve found a good 9mm or even a .45 ACP allows you to stay fast if needed, but are much easier to control in recoil, leading to more accurate shot placement. Its a big, heavy beast to handle w massive recoil & slow recovery. Just switched to this gun. LOVE IT! Put 4 into a 5 inch circle in just a tad over 1 second w no sights @ 15 yards. And that with the Underwood 220 grain WFNHC bear thumpers. From pull to 4th round. ( 2 double taps) just over 1 second. Wont have time to sight with a bear attack anyway. This unit just has THE most natural point of aim ive ever known. Have no doubt i could send a bears brain out through its rear end in very short order. Have been attacked several times out here. 2 up close. Matter of a few yards to a few inches. ( im my face) Bear attacks are FAST & usually close up. And im an OLD little guy. Had to put the smallest backstrap on for the right " feel". Best $ ive ever spent.

    Thanks for your review - I'm really interested in this pistol. I wish I could go shooting in my own backyard. As it is now, I have to drive about 25 miles to get to my nearest outdoor shooting location.
    I love 10mm. It's my favorite semi-auto pistol cartidge. It's the .357 Magnum of the pistol world, and that's a good thing. But let's get real.
    The most potent commercially available 10mm ammo I've ever been able to find, fired from a 5" barrell, was almost as potent as low-end .41 magnum (in terms of foot pounds of energy at the muzzle). Kind of like the most potent 9mm ammo is almost as potent as low-end 10mm range ammo.
    IMHO, round for round, 10mm really is not comparable to .41 Magnum, but the 10mm is a great cartridge.
    Good things!

    • @chrisgullett4332
      @chrisgullett4332 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is comparable to 41 Magnum, and beats it easily. Most 10mm loads may not be as powerful as a heavy 41 Magnum cartridge, but what is most important is that there are way more 10mm offerings, and way more guns chambered in 10mm. Plus it is always better to have 9 rounds, 10 rounds, 13 rounds, 16 rounds or even 32 rounds of 10mm than 6 rounds of 41 magnum. Sure 41 Magnum may beat 10mm in terms of power, but you are still limited to 6 rounds, and that is why 10mm wins. It is about more than just the bullets, it is about what you can do with it. The 10mm just goes way further in terms of being practical than the 41 Magnum. The 41 Magnum is awesome, but I would rather be carrying a high capacity 10mm. It is kinda like comparing 45 Bushmaster to 454, because sure the 454 slightly outperforms the 45 Bushmaster in terms of power, but the 45 Bushmaster is way more practical than 454. So if it came down to choosing which one I'd carry, the easy choice would be 45 Bushmaster. People that do these comparisons focus way too much on just the ammo, when everything else is what they should focus on. We already know 10mm and 41 Magnum will both get the job done, so what are the other factors? 10mm wins in basically every other category besides power. I understand liking certain calibers and certain gun models, but only a fool would use those two variables to make a choice on which caliber to carry. Sure you may love an old 41 Magnum revolver, and that is totally fine, but there are more benefits to carrying a modern high capacity 10mm pistol. It is like if somebody put a 44 Revolver on the table and a 10mm semi auto pistol, and said I could only carry one. For me the choice would be easy, the 10mm pistol every single time. I know the 44 has way more power, but there are several reasons why I would pick the 10mm, and less power would not be a huge factor in my choice.

    • @jpg_sig10
      @jpg_sig10 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chrisgullett4332 Sure, and by that same token, an AR-15 trumps a .50 BMG Barrett M82. It depends on the circumstances and application.
      I've no affinity for the .41 Magnum cartridge and / or revolver. I've never even fired one. I do like the S&W Performance Center Pro Series Model 627 8-shot .357 Magnum revolver - I've found that a pleasure to shoot. Not as practical nor useful as a good 10mm semi-auto pistol, like the SA XDM Elite you reviewed here.
      Good things! 👍

      The 10mm is a formidably round especially using the right round for the right occasion. Seen videos of them taken down water buffalo in Africa (thick hide), bears, wild bore, deer, and even a charging moose. 22plinkster guy drove a hole through bullet proof glass for grins and giggles. For a handgun, I feel very comfortable carrying one for protection outdoors.

    I half agree, on the grip safety - I have NEVER had an issue with the grip safety on am XD. I have, however had issues with the grip safety on a 1911. To be honest, the grip safety is what is keeping the XDM10 Elite in the running. It has come down to that or the P320 X Ten which has NEITHER a grip safety OR a trigger safety. The one thing that has me leaning towards the XD. Under adverse conditions, no holster available, I'd feel a lot better carrying the XD charged than the X Ten. Also doesn't hurt that you can actually buy an XDM10 E with paying 200bux OVER msrp right now.

      @@williampowell8083 Have you ever shot an XD? I only have once - a loaner when I showed up for "qual" with no pistol. That grip safety ain't even there, bro. No matter how I grabbed it, it was pressed. Now my RIA 1911, on the other hand, if I try to rest my thumb ON the thumb safety (thumbs forward), it creates a tiny gap between the web of my hand and the grip safety that prevents it from being depressed far enough UNLESS I pull with the 4 fingers of my strong hand like I am trying to crush the grip. THAT ONE, I might have shaved a little but the XD I used (sample of one), it wasn't even noticeable.

    To prove the quality and reliability of the new XD-M 10mm, 10,000 rounds of Federal Premium Hydra-Shock ammunition was fired through the gun with EVERY round documented on video. No work was done to the pistol, outside of a recoil spring change and oil at 2,000 round intervals. The XD-M 10mm performed flawlessly and powered through all 10,000 rounds without a single failure. But keep in mind, it’s a hard recoiling gun so you really shouldn’t go with a cheapie $100 red dot sight. Once you decide which style fits, I’d spend at least $300 or so to assure you get a rugged one. Stick with name brands and not Amazon discount models. I’ll check my set-up to see what specific sights I could recommend. You can also go wtih the Springfield model (on their website) as it’s excellent and you know it fits. Roy H.

    After 28 years in Alaska, including in bear counrty, I will state categorically that No Handgun is proper defense against brown/ grizzly bears. They will be OK fro black bears - if you can wait for your shot, soot accurately even during extreme stress. SStreaa is why God mad long guns.

    You can fit 17 in the magazine if you push hard enough. It takes a smack to seat it or release it though. 😅

      I tend to load down one or two as most high cap mags seem to be more reliable that way. Roy

    About the closest thing to .357mag you'll ever have in a semi-auto cartridge (provided you shop for the right stuff).

      That is the trick with both .357 magnum and 10mm. Both cartridges have some pretty weak factory loadings, but when both are loaded to their potential, they are pushing the same weight bullets at the same velocity from equal barrel lengths. The 10mm really isn’t in the same as a .41 mag like we often hear.

      @@ReeveHelalV 357mag out energizes the 10mm slightly but it's not significant in terminal effect.
      No, the .41 is a good half step between 357mag and 44mag performance.
