Beautiful cars and they really pop on camera. You don't always get that. You've just done an amazing job on your studio and the way your lay out is for the cars. I really need to get my butt in gear and set up my work shop better. 👍
The Thundershot was one of Tamiya's finest moments. It sat perfectly between the Striker/Grasshopper/Falcon/Hornet and the serious high end racers like the Cat/Optimas etc. Tough, Tweakable, quick enough to race at grassroots level, but significantly cheaper and easier to maintain. Genius.
I bought six cars in a very short time now. The top force evo, the built but never run egress that gets here tomorrow, the xray xb4 22, the mini revo vxl, and the kyosho lazer zx5. I started up with the hobby again, so needed a little new sparkling goodies. And some oldschool newness.
Gavin. You said about polishing out the scratches on the lexan screen. Have you thought about silican cutting/rubbing compound? Maybe you know the stuff? If not, you can get in Halford's in a big yellow tube for a tenner. Its white paste with course silicon grit that gets finer & finner as you rub it in, normally after you've worked down to the final 1500 grade wet n dry rub down. Now, its intended for finishing spray paint off to a polish either by hand or with the polishing rag on the drill or dremel. I've used it on motorbike fairings plent, but I discovered its excellent on plastic car headlights that have gone opaque from UV & failed the MOT. I have NOT tried it on lexan bodys, but I recon it should work for you. You could test it on a scrap bit first see if its good. Cheers
I normally use an electric veg steamer. Cut the side walls and remove inserts and steam for 60mins. Leave to cool and pull the tyres off. Acetone works fine, either dipped or just allowing the fumes to do the job. The steamer is chemical free. I would say it would be fine having dyed tamiya wheels in the past (Dyna Storm ones used to fit a Losi XX back in the day) but I have warped tamiya M-chassis wheels before 🤷♂️ Acetone is a bit nasty but generally works well.
Well that was nuts. I've never done that before, but I have bought several cars in pretty close progression. It's not so bad if you're selling some on, or have sold some already.
Ur so lucky gavin u should build rc vintage kits and auction them off when ur done I love. The color of your Avante 2001 it looks like my losi 8t I have a 1957 body on it and rc kicks stickers glad to see you changed the the look to bad ur selling them in Europe I think anything that gavin owned is worth a lot more its celebrity owned now I want a signed car so bad
hi great little score with the new cars, can you please go into detail with the avante on what makes it a first edition so i can have at look at mine and check if its the same please ,thanks for any help
In your opinion what are the most durable vintage tamiya and kyosho cars. As a kid I loved the optima and hotshot but I know you know them all well. So if you had to chose 1, and you hated to drive it what would it be based on durability?
I would look at a Kyosho Optima or Turbo Optima. Little tanks that can take brushless power. You still can't do a Kevin Talbot on them and go to the skatepark bashing but you can have great fun blasting them around a dirt track with a few jumps no problem.
Mate drop the tyres in simmering water for about 30 mins rotate them every 5 mins it loosens the bond Takes a little effort but you peel the tyres off like they not glued saves the tyre and doesn't damage the wheel Just what the heat from the water can cause blisters on the thumbs mostly Did this with my TF pins (backs shredded too) worked very well and as said doesn't damage anything ; )
0:30 LoL I buy your Dyna Storm if u need money :) The Astute looks awesome I recently bought 4 cars at once from Tamico. I thought "well i'm not going on holiday this year so f*** it"
Acetone will remove super glue if that was used on the tyres. Acetone is cheap nail polish remover, don't get the acetone free stuff obviously. Also had decent results using isopropyl alcohol and also nitro car fuel against other types of glue.
I personally boil my glued tires off, not Tamiya though, a lot of people bake tires off too. I have only unglued tires off Tamiya wheels once, using acetone. It completely dissolved the wheels 🤣🤣🤣. They were Proline tires on Blitzer Beetle wheels.
great stuff man, you should put a link to your ebay stuff on here so it's easier to find. i think it would be pretty damn cool to pick up a car from you that has been in your hands and on the channel;)
I did think about it but I didn’t want it to feel like I’m turning into a selling channel. That’s not my goal and it didn’t feel right. If people are interested it’s not hard to find them on eBay.
RCKicks Gavin you have to let them soak in acetone for a few days in a big container the acetone will take out the bonding agent in the glue the rubber tires will come right off with very little everfort and it won’t harm the rims either but tires may not be useable after words
And I learned this from guys at the race track who race there high end vehicle and the tires were wore out and needed to put a new set of tires on but they did not want to damage the rims
@@RCKickschannel Have you had problems with boiling before then? To be honest I've never had to boil a tamiya wheel but I have done Kyosho and hpi with no worries...
Boiling is fairly safe, in the past I've had some models that they actually suggested doing it to the nylon parts to stop them breaking, nylon appears to take on some moisture, think that's what allows you to dye stuff.
@@cheesyp69 Yeah a lot of older cars like the RC10 and old traxxas cars had white(ish) plastics that you could dye in a colour of your choice and even now king motor do baja plastics in white so you can dye them.. so I don't think it harms plastic by boiling, i have even straightened some things by boiling or pouring boiling water over the plastic to return it to shape and quench it it cold water for it to retain that shape..
Gavin it’s all beautiful no doubt. It’s getting out of control though😂😂😂. Up to now your lovely wife has been very supportive... this could all change. Start getting your excuses ready NOW🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'd like to buy a Vanquish for a long time... Where did you find it?? Do you have an ebay account?I don't use Facebook or other social media, how can i contact you ?i really want to buy one!

Tamiya was top dog back in the day when I was doing rc cars. That was back when if you blow on the car just right parts would fall of them if it wasn't a Tamiya.
How many Technigolds is that now!!!? 🤔 You can remove your glued tyres as follows: Cut off as much tyre as you can using Lexan scissors, then soak the wheels in acetone overnight. The remaining rubber will simply slide off as all the superglue will have dissolved - no damage whatsoever. 👍🏻
I wouldn’t use it on chromed wheels, but no issues with plain ones. There is a chance that vintage plastic may react differently but modern wheels certainly have no issues. There are plenty of TH-cam videos demonstrating this technique.
@@RCKickschannel It will actually make them stronger if they have a high nylon content. That is why you just use an old wheel to test. The only wheels I ever had a problem with was some duratrax wheels. Boiling water is only 212 degrees. Much less than the heat needed to inject the plastics when they are produced.
@Chris McRoy Yeah, I remember they were the B3 compatible front wheels that they produced. Kind of a hard brittle plastic that would shatter if you hit something. I boiled them in order to dye them and they just shriveled up.
Not to judge, just understand. Why do you have such an infatuation with Tamiya's most unrealistic toy like buggies? I like the Grasshopper and Falcon as much as the next guy but,,,. Tamiya makes some of the very best fun rc vehicles like the Lunchbox, wild Willis, Holiday buggy and Sand Scorcher. But all the childish kiddy buggies? I really don't understand. Even the truly realistic rally and road cars make more sense to collect. What am I missing?
I collect all types of RC but mostly Tamiya and Kyosho. Well I guess it’s because I remember them from my childhood as well as I enjoy building and painting RC kits. It gives you a better connection to a car if you build it as you understand the engineering 100% more and have spend time bringing it to life vs a RTR. Don’t get me wrong, I love my XMAXX, Schumacher Racing K1 aero racing buggy as well as my TRX4 sport crawler. I would have more RTR kits on the show but the cost for US RTR manufacturers are so expensive in the UK, I can’t make enough from channel videos to cover even 30% of the car cost.

I’ll give it a try. I use toothpaste as that also does the job but it’s super fine so takes a while.

Great haul, some exciting upcoming projects from those! :)
as for the tires off the rims i always use oven bake at 325 for 20 minutes

I think the Vanquish had a silver can motor as standard. Nice collection 👍🏻
Yup. I've got an original (bought in 1990) and it came with a silver can.
Cool, well that’s a cheap fix. Thanks guys 🙏🏻
hi gavin, will a new square spike tires fit the vqs wheels? i'm having a hard time finding the tires since i couldn't purchase overseas
how much power you think the frog could handle. Maybe the new brushed motors and ESC.
Hi other cuestion, your videos are genial very clare, what camara yoy have use for this videos make ? Have a nice Day!!!.

How to check out what your selling on eBay....?
Search for the car on eBay
@30...Lol I love your circular reasoning which probably wins you that exact look each time.
Hi Gavin any luck with removal of the tires?
Haven’t tried yet, I’ve been working on my Astute all day yesterday.

Use acetone to remove the glue on the tires

Your going to come home one day and Momma’s going have changed the locks and piled all your RC cars and stuff on the lawn...Lol.
