    I am not sure if anyone notice but matthew’s English proficiency level amazes me. Unlike some other channels lol. In fact, I am more amazed by his command of English than the car itself! Good job Matthew!

    I have a 2018 BMW X1 daily driver and two sports cars and I'm very happy with mine. The first thing that I did was keep the 18" rims for the winter tires although the rims are so nice they're overkill for winter and I got 19" wheels and got rid of the crappy run flats and installed Toyo performance tires. So happy I did. I also installed the BMS CA Intake and added a custom tune as well as a software customization of different options such as added LEDs for the front and rear turns, the fogs and removable of the always active stop engine feature now only on ECO mode. I also added my own custom stereo upgrade using Pioneer tweeters installed over that triangular plastic piece next to the exterior mirrors and especially made for this application and a Pioneer powered sub with active crossover and remote button where the hidden coin box next to the steering wheel (it sounds amazing and less $$$ than the H/K upgrade, and while you don't have to change the little 3" speakers in the doors, you can with Focal or other brands but because the tweeters are so good and that they already cover the same frequency range and with higher octaves too, I wouldn't bother. Using the active crossover variable equalizer on the Pioneer Sub and tweaking the sound controls in the X1 I have the under seat woofers acting more like lower mids thus cleaning up the sound. I also added a nice console box that looks like OEM that fits under the arm rest that I found on Amazon and a few shiny buttons that you can find on EBAY. I also swapped a BMW interior rear-view mirror that has a compass and the homelink remote that opens the garage door and light and I added BMW logo projector lights under the front doors, mine are actually M logos which I also added to the speedometer LED color console and the BMW logo on the screen at startup then profile confirmation. You also have to choose the LED option in the ECU software otherwise you get that weird strobe effect and I have the LED advanced headlight package that adds side illumination when turning. Mine came with all the options except the rear automatic seat fold button which is useless anyway although my rear seat recline by a small amount. We hardly ever have anyone in the rear especially these days...And now with the better wheel and tire package and the BMS intake and software tune the X1 is fast especially in Canada where you get the more powerful 2 liter turbo engine .If you do your homework and look up a few things on the interweb and apply those, you will notice the power improvements believe me. BMW in Canada now makes it super easy to configure one now. 3 or 4 packages with only a handful of options now include everything. My preference would be either the M package or the full professional package and add one or two options. I prefer the older idrive round selector, mine has the writing pad with character recognition, I prefer just using the app to choose destinations and send it to the car. If you need to change while driving, you can use the standard qwerty keyboard to type in your stuff on the touch screen, it's faster. And even the touch screen, there's one on EBAY that's 10" and fits the same space but has advance Bluetooth, a video screen that plays videos and Android auto and Apple Car Play built in with a high speed processor and memory like an tablet and they're about $500 USD. On the modification software you can add a few things to the HUD screen too. After driving the X1 a few months this spring and summer I have to say I'm very impressed. It's incredibly peppy and surprises the Civic, Elantra, VW Golf/GTI/R and many other cars especially after a tune. In Canada mine came with optional glass that cuts more sound. I was going to get a BMW X3 M4.0 but then when I test drove this vehicle I was so impressed that I will leave the sports to my sports cars. I looked at a lot of competition before I made my choice: Toyota Rav 4 and now only only come in Hybrid BTW for 2021; The Acura RDX, the Lexus UX Hybrid which is under powered and does not have as nice an interior and there's always that controversial grill that's akin to cilantro (you either like it or hate it) ; the Ford Escape, Mazda CX-5, Mercedes GLA 250 (not even close); VW Tiguan, Honda, GM and KIA and Hyundai were not on my target short list. There is nothing close...but BMW better step up their game because the new 2021 Mercedes GLA AMG 35 is here and it's price competitive and is very nice looking and fully loaded with TWO 10.25" high res digital screens! Yes you read right...2 10.25" screens and over 300 HP and TQ and AMG brakes at the same price after you add the options on the M package. Great review too!

    Thanks for the review....classy touch picking on BMW drivers not putting their signals on during lane change...please note that this phenomenon happens with malaysian drivers of other brands as well....

    • @dreamflier
      @dreamflier 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For those used to using the signal stalk on the right hand side of the steering wheel, having one on the left side on BMW or other continental cars ( and like those now on the Proton and Perodua) can be a pain to use....can count many times I put on the wiper instead when intending to signal left or right! Need getting used to but it should be uncivicminded for those who purposely don't use the signal lights at all....

    Anyone consider 20i vs 18i, just get 20i. The B48 engine is easy to tune with BM3. With stage 1 tuning, you will get the performance equivalent to 30i. 18i is only 1.5 liter turbo. Not much headroom. Also with M-Sport bodykit, the extra is just worth it.

  • @jisenglum4365
    @jisenglum4365 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Between 18i (1.5-litre 3 cylinder engine) and 20i (2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine) both turbocharged, it's already clear cut choice, just get the 20i variant together with 5 years warranty and free service package, moreover it's RM200k car where mostly can afford difference of RM10k - 20k, not RM30k - RM40k car where difference of just RM3k - RM5k means a lot to budget car buyers. Also, 18i might be underpowered and with hefty car body weight, FC will be suffer - even higher petrol consumption than 20i variant, not to mention shorter mounting lifespan of 3-cylinder engine compared with 4-cylinder engine.

    I have been an expat in Malaysia and Thailand for a few years and enjoyed your reviews generally, mate. Now following them closely as I'm approaching a car shift soon. But I dont get why people would splurge out the north part of 200k for something that is essentially an Excel sheet on wheels while getting something Japanese that addresses its flaws for a lot lot less. Is it just me or are most car reviewers generally biased towards BMW because of the badge? Forgiving their major product flaws like comfort, NVH, lack of safety kit (any equipment for that matter), or any attempts of better interior design, in exchange for something that rides around corners slightly better? Plus not mentioning anything about how notoriously unreliable BMWs is something that reviewers tend to fail to mention...

      I have been working in automotive industry for more than 7 years. What I can said is the reliability of BMW is far better after the F series such as F10, F30 etc. BMW famous flaw is electronic parts and wiring harness. I saw E60 changes the entire wiring harness cost RM 12k (part only) in aftermarket. The reason of these problem mainly due to tropical countries tend to be hot and high humidity. Unlikely 4 seasons countries the climate is dry. BMW is doing well in 4 seasons countries but pretty bad in tropical zone. They found their weakness and has enhanced the electronic part over the years.
      This is based on true story or else you can join the BMW club to find out more.

    • @matthewtong123
      @matthewtong123 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Nathan, sorry I just saw this. Honestly, the XC40 feels more premium and rides pretty well. Objectively the Volvo is the better car (much better safety and engine performance), so if you’re not a badge snob and can fork out a bit more money on a new car, I think you’ll be pretty happy with the XC40. I know I would... if I could afford it. Hope that helps!
