I normally don't wax political on a channel like this either but being as you're in CA it's worthy of SOME post-mortem analysis. I wound up writing in Tulsi Gabbard for the 2nd time because I wasn't thrilled with either nominee; but you can't look at this election any other way than as a repudiation of left-wing policy, and for me at least, a repudiation of the Democratic Party's _despicable_ behavior the past 9 years. #1, if you really want to win converts to your position you don't normally call a majority of voters misogynists, racists, transphobes, garbage, ingrates or idiots. That is pure arrogance; NOBODY has a monopoly on virtue. But We The People spoke, with a pretty loud voice this time around. I personally think some introspection is in order. #2: If you wanna get down to brass tacks, it's not the national elections that mean as much to us at _street level_ than LOCAL elections. STATE and LOCAL officeholders have more influence on our lives, our neighborhoods, and our communities than _national_ politics ever will; and they deserve the lion's share of our attention rather than the shiny object in Washington. #3, It's high time we stop getting led around by the _radical extremists_ in the base of both parties. It's the rabid partisans and myopic ideologues who are hogging the megaphone and is one reason why most of us in between those two bookends aren't being listened to. Don't expect any help from the media; the legacy press loves a good train wreck, and politics is the gift that keeps on giving. The media is making _bank_ off of the political rancor and division, so much so that at this point the press's approval rating is lower than Congress -- because we know we're not getting the straight story. When news outlets become the propaganda arm of this party or that, we can no longer trust that we're hearing anything remotely resembling _the truth._ Frankly I could write a book here about the reasons why this election turned out the way it did, but I've said enough already. I'm only pleased that the Democrat Party was not rewarded for the vicious, ruthless, and UNdemocratic tactics they employed in order to attain to and retain power. We should never put up with that from _anyone._ In the meantime - we're okay; we'll be fine. The country's not over, the world's not over, our system prevailed as it has for the last 243 years. Take some solace in that.
