Every once in a while...you find a person who can communicate the meanings of this life and this world with such a warm, intimate clarity that momentarily purges all the negativity (and politics) from your wearied mind...to still your pulse just enough to understand the meaning of "PEACE" !!
I love how Angus drops into these Songs From Home episodes. When the pandemic first hit, I was a Professor at a large University and had to switch to teaching online. We had no instruction on how to switch to online teaching, so I just did what I did in class - but with zoom. I have a giant black labrador who often thinks that if I am speaking, I must be speaking to her. So she comes next to me and does a high pitched whimper as if to say "I'm right here. I'm listening. Now pay attention to me." Students always wanted to see her. I don't blame them, she is much prettier than me. All that pretty shiny black hair. Big brown eyes. And a sweet smile.
Someone should mention the lovely photos that head your TH-cam offerings. Someone--perhaps you?--is exceptionally skillful at capturing the beauty of your farm and surroundings.
Another gift to us, thank you. It isn't lost on me that we seem to know what are pets are feeling but not always our partners... a musing thought for my day.
Quittin' time with a smile, dimples, Mary, Angus and the White Kitty. My Super Heroes ❤ Love Angus' cameo appearance at the quittin' of Quittin' Time ❤
That smile warms my heart. The internet is a funny thing. I now look forward to these songs like a message from an old friend.... only had a vague knowledge of your existence before this all started.
I’m going to be so sad when these soulful solo performances end because we’re back to trying to live life as it was before COVID-19 derailed Planet Earth. (We’ll find everything has changed and there is no going back, I do believe.) It has been so cool getting to know you a bit. I hope you are able to embrace how amazing you are. Thank you for being your authentic self and sharing your amazing giftedness with us. In gratitude ...
I love the "thoomp" of an old cat who has just gotten up from a nap. Love to you, MCC and White Kitty and Angus! Thank you all for brightening these days.
Dear Mary! It's 11.45 here Central European Time and I hear on the news that there's going to be Mental Health Awareness week in England to support young people during lockdown. There is no such thing in Hungary BUT you yourself represent it for us. You help us remain in balance in personal and professional life. In an online lesson yesterday a young boy very disciplined but doing nothing spent all the time staring at something on the screen trying to switch on a button that he couldn't. Later he wrote 'I couldn't switch on my mic but I want to tell that I miss everyone, teachers, friends'. Phew, I was moved to tears. We smile a lot and your smiles have become part of ours. Now I am sending these smiles back to you hoping they arrive. Your attitude is being taught at our school here in Eastern Hungary. We hope we can stay together with you and see you again in a next episode. I know you cannot send personal messages to every single heart out here and realised the songs themselves are the personal messages to us. Wishing you a lovely weekend, thankful greetings from Hungary.
Mary, my husband and I listen to you every day beginning around 400 pm. We are from Illinois . We play the you tube " songs from home ". Song after song , you bring us comfort during this different time. We appreciate Angus and little kitty . This situation is only temporary for all of us. We will always appreciate your music during this different time in our lives . We both appreciate you and your music so much ! If you come to tour in Illinois , we would come to see you in concert . We will remember you and your music forever !!!
I was a fan of your music back in the '90s. In fact as a kid in college I interned at a country music station in SF and saw you in concert at least once. Fast forward 30 years and it's taken a global pandemic to bring me back to your warmth, superb storytelling and angelic voice. I am grateful to once again be in your orbit. Signing off from Chicago.....
Mary Chapin Carpenter, I would like to thank you here for the wonderful, beautiful songs you have given the music world. Ever since I happened to notice the beautiful cover of your first CD, "Hometown Girl", in a record store in Frankfurt in the early nineties (with a cover like that, only good music can be hidden), you have been one of my favorites when it comes to good music. Besides, your voice is unique. I wish you a good time. Thank you again for "your" extensive song gift to (me) us. Lovely 💚 Greetings & your 🤗cat! 🐅

"All that" came from the heart...and relates a lot perhaps to the song you are playing". Years of knowing someone's habits. Your desire for solitude is not without heart and awareness of what is going on around you. Love this slowed down tempo unplugged version. Man this song is deep down real. You are true, very hard to throw in the towel and quit...but gotta be honest at end of day and let go to move on. Life is quite the journey MCC . Thank you for this one as I've heard you play it with your old dear buddy, J.J as well. Be well this American memorial day weekend. 🙂 🇨🇦
Well this video had everything. First a little anxiety because...White Kitty 's not happy. Then a beautiful song. And Angus made me laugh at the end. Thanks to all three of you.
Thank you for coming back Mary, strong and smiling! Thank you for the drill! And thank you for letting us know there's always a next time! Your songs mean a lot out here. You give us light and hope. Heartfelt thanks and smiles.
Hi Audrey, With all the turmoil, anger, frustration from last week I decided I needed to revisit these songs and the things people write. I give a thumbs up to some and a blessing to others. This is evening #3 and this song is an appropriate one to close with this night as I go through them once again.
@@wjcorrinne4052 Hi William, my phone sent me notification about your answer so I found it. Take great care as you navigate your days. Blessings to you.
What a wonderful visit today with you and Angus and White Kitty!!!! This version of "Quittin Time" sent chills right through me.You are such a blessing during these times and I will never forget these moments. Thank You Mary Chapin!
Boy this brought me right back to a period of trouble in a young marriage.......thank God we weathered the storm and going to celebrate 31 years in a couple of weeks. Your songs bring me right back! I loved this so much and I knew just what the thump would mean when you said it. Miss my own calico kitty. I'd love to request Passionate Kisses for an upbeat one. That's always been my favorite although I love all of your work. Thanks again Mary. We love you so much. #staymighty #staythefhome
Just watched you, Chapin, doing this song with Nancy Griffith and Rosanne Cash...AND THEY SANG WITH you and brought tears to my eyes...I've seen you several times. Thanks for being a beautiful part of the soundtrack of my life! LOVE from the Sonoran Desert of Tucson!!

Thank you for bringing your beautiful, open, sunny country kitchen into our small city apartment - it’s so refreshing! All of these versions are comfortingly intimate, which is so needed in a time where intimacy is scarce. I hope at some point you might be in the mood to play any of the following requests!: 1. It Don’t Bring You 2. Between Here and Gone 3. Only a Dream 4. On and On it Goes 5. Where Time Stands Still 6. Holding Up the Sky 7. Stones in the Road 8. My Heaven 9. Twilight 10. Goodnight America 11. A Place in the World 12. Girls Like Me Thanks!!!
It’s definitely not a sad song if you’re not sad or heart broken , which I’m not at the moment lol Unbelievably amazing mood inspiring song I remember 1989 well Thanks
I really enjoyed this slower version of a great song. A beautiful voice singing meaningful poetic words with of course Angus stealing the show at the end! Thank you!
I love the way she interacts with her pet's. Love her music too. I have my little dachshund right here beside me. Still sounds good no backgrounds just her guitar!
Like so many others, to me your music has been so meaningful, moving and powerful through the last 27 years (I first discovered your music in 1993 while working in Raleigh NC). And now your generosity in sharing these songs with us is so supportive and comforting in this extraordinarily difficult time. Thank you for each and every note and lyric now and through all of those years. I look forward to listening to an album called "Songs from Home" at some time in the future when all of this seems like a distant dream , and remembering that among all the sadness and difficulties, there were these shining rays of love and hope to help us through.
Wow - beautifully sad and loving song! Thanks Mary!! And thanks for sharing your home...the farm has such classic clean lines and finishes, a wonderful complement to your music!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is so wonderful. I love seeing White Kitty. She is a living double for my Puff, who left us many years ago after sharing our lives for 16+ years. Scratch her behind the ears for me!
