    This is my local line, which I often use sometimes from Thorpe Bay to Benfleet, to commute to work. The section of the walk between Leigh-on-Sea and Chalkwell is called Old Leigh, which has some pubs, cafes, a couple of restaurants, cocklesheds and a selection of shops selling various little bits and bobs.

      I've found the shops to be rather nice, was a pleasant walk too which I will hopefully be doing again soon! 😁

    So much better than their other trains. C2C don't seem to have done much with their trains since they were brand new. They definitely need a bit of love or possibly even replacement.

      I think as long as they get a repaint and internal refurb they'll be fine - hopefully the 720 introduction provides the opportunity to do just that.

    I'd have thought, given that Fenchurch Street doesn't have a direct Underground link, that the point of stopping everything at Limehouse was to provide access to the westbound DLR to Bank, where there are links to multiple Underground lines, not the eastbound DLR; if people wanted to use that, they could have just taken the DLR from Tower Gateway.

    • @highpath4776
      @highpath4776 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Its for both. I would travel Barking to Limehouse then back to Canary Wharf well South Quay (before Jubilee Got to West Ham, though actually the Jubillee Faff at Canary Wharf made the DLR still quicker)

    • @davidbull1914
      @davidbull1914 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm not sure it's worth the aggro getting the DLR from Limehouse to Bank, the walk from Bank DLR to the other tube lines can't be much shorter than the walk from Fenchurch Street to Tower Hill!

      Not just Bank but also for connections to Canary Wharf, Lewisham and Woolwich, since you can't get a direct train to those places from Tower Gateway usually.

    Now that the 387s have gone to Great Northern, C2C is down 6 units. Eventually they will get a batch of 12 class 720 Aventras: twice the number of units, but longer trains; that means a pair of 240m sets will be replaced by six 240m sets. However I don’t think they’re in a rush to get them in service right now

    • @OMtheRails
      @OMtheRails  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      c2c are aiming to get the first 720s in service by the end of this year, but I believe there were problems found during testing which has delayed their introduction - I believe the reduced timetable for rush hour services combined with their leases expiring at the end of June is what led to c2c withdrawing them when they did as opposed to subleasing them from GTR.

    • @OMtheRails
      @OMtheRails  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They can easily be modified to 110mph, as they have been temporarily as a test bed for the 387. It won’t matter on GN though as they don’t tend to operate above 100mph anyways - I think if they were to have transferred over, it would have happened by now.

    So glad those trains have gone! The seats were really uncomfortable. Very upright and hardly any cushioning. You could see other commuters spending most of the time shifting about in their seats, trying to find some kind of tolerable comfort. They also felt more claustrophobic. The 20yr old trains were way better. However, they always said these trains were a stop-gap until the new trains arrive in the next few months. Hopefully, they have good seats!

      They were built as stock units, with no specific operator in mind. c2c then took them on as a short term lease after the announcement, so it didn’t really matter which interior was used. 6 years on, this worked out rather well for Great Northern as this matches their existing 387/1 fleet…
