I like how u explain the differences. I am legally blind and autistic and I have sensory issues with my nub white rigid cane but I love my ambush 6section folding cane and my rolling ball tip. It's nice I send these videos to friends to help them understand
Hi! Thank you so much for the very nice words, I’m glad you enjoyed this video and the style of it. I wanted to be as helpful as possible, I’m glad you approve! It is cool that you have a rollerball tip for your cane, I want to get one of those as well as I find it would be so much better to sweep it back-and-forth versus tapping, but my current cane tip will not allow for that as it gets caught in the cracks way too easily. Thanks so much for watching, it is nice to hear from you. MATT
M H that’s good although I hope you know you’re not alone because I am blind and autistic as well and I have asked burgers and I just want you to know that you’re not alone even though I don’t know you
M H they don’t they really don’t which is why I care because I don’t have sensory issues but I’m blind and I have autism and I know that I want a better life for people that are blind and autism and if you ever need a friend just you know someone to talk to come find me on TH-cam and I will listen to you
Hi, great conversation guys! We can just add sensory issues to the list of many things that people do not understand about blindness and visual impairment.
Thanks for the video. Very educational. You always seem so upbeat. I appreciate your positive attitude. I'm not always so upbeat, so your videos are a good reminder to keep myself positive.👍
Hi, thank you so much for the very nice comment. Yes we try to keep things very positive on the channel, but at the same time we also try to keep it very real and let people understand that it is not always easy. Just because I have this channel, that does not mean it is always easy for me either, so I like to share some of my struggles so that everybody recognizes that they are not alone when they are feeling bad about something. Thanks again for the very nice words and comment. I’m glad you enjoyed this video. Thanks for your friendship :-) Matt
Dear Matt, this video is soooo amazing. I am very very happy to see you so excited about your cane now... after having kept my fingers crossed for you since autumn that you will overcome your resistance against it as soon as possible. Congrats!!!! you have not only transformed yourself into a much more independent VIP but you also have become a very enthusiastic ambassador for the white cane!!! That's such a great development! Thank you so much for this very informative and positive video. It is important work what you are doing, you are convincing other VIPs to start using canes with your personal testimony which is of course as authentic as it can be... and by raising awareness in the same time among the visual people with your easy and uncomplicated way of explaining things. GREAT JOB!!! I will post your video in our group ! Best wishes 💖 to you and Corey
Hi! Wow, that is so incredibly nice of you to say! I know we, right? Just a few months ago I was absolutely terrified to walk to the end of my driveway, now look at me, I am tapping my way around the world! LOL. I’m so glad that I went through with the training but I could not have done it without all of the support from all the amazing people here like you, thank you! I’m so glad I follow through with this training, it has been absolutely life-changing for me! I’m excited to see what the training will bring in the coming months! I just want to share my experiences and put myself out there to hopefully encourage other people in this community to follow through with training or to recognize that they are never alone with any struggles that they are facing, many other people in this community are facing the same which is why I put myself out there continuously. Thank you again for sharing this on your group, that is so cool! Hope to hear from you again soon. Matt
I know how you feel about 10 years ago should I probably won’t be at training because I have that requires well but you’re here and you’re doing what you’re doing and I’m here and I’m doing what I’m doing shall keep up the good work
Hi Matt, great to see you do this all. I guess you are much more comfortable now and I have the feeling you are already much more happier now than before. I am very proud of you. Really happy to see it all worked out for you. Love sabrina
Hi Sabrina! It’s so great to hear from you, it has been a while. I hope all is going well for you! Yes, I feel so much better about myself and I have gained so much independence as well as confidence not only in traveling around as a blind person, which is confidence in myself as a person in general. Thank you so much for the sweet words and comment, I always enjoy hearing from you! You are truly an amazing friend and person! Have a wonderful day and thank you once again for being here :-) huge hugs, love, Matt
Another very good video Matt. I noticed that you got more snow that we here in Western Massachusetts. In fact, the temperature here today was 64 degrees. A lot of people outside enjoying the weather. I hope you have a nice week.
Hi! Yes, we don’t have a ton of snow, but we definitely do have some. Wow, 64° sounds amazing! I think it was 42° here today and it was very warm feeling, it was so beautiful. Hope you enjoy the nice weather!
Hey, I never would’ve said this just a few months ago, but yes going through with cane training is definitely very important. I never recognize the importance and how much freedom it would give a person until I’ve actually gone through the training myself. It has been absolutely life-changing and I’m so glad I am going through with it! See you again soon. Matt
Hi Matt, You already know I have a man crush on you LOL but I was literally giggling toward the end of this video when you were telling people how much independence, freedom and confidence knowing how to use a cane can give a blind person. It was only 4 or 5 months ago when you were debating whether or not to do orientation and mobility and were literally sweating through your shirts because of the fear of being in public using a cane... Brother, again adn I've said this before in other videos, I am so so so proud of you and how far you have come. You are now the expert and now encouraging other newly blinded people the importance of knowing how to use a cane and what comes with that. I could go back and probably find comments I made about encouraging you to do the O and M and how much freedom and independence this will give you and you were still doubtful and not sure you wanted to do this blah blah blah. You are so awesome and such an inspiration to so many people. As I am writing this, I am listening to your video for a second time and just smiling from ear to ear as you describe the correct positioning of the cane and now you are outside demonstrating. So cool my brother. Anyway, I could go on and on but you probably get tired of my long posts. Be good and continue the great content on this channel. Hugs to Corey.
Hey my dear friend! Actually, I love your long messages, keep them coming! :-). It is so funny and weird, just a few months ago I never could have even imagined creating a video like this, and now look at me out in the world tapping my way around. LOL. Thank you for watching this video and for always leaving such a nice and supportive comments! They truly mean so much to me, I cannot even describe! You gave me so much inspiration and encouragement, thank you for doing that, it truly paid off! This has been a life-changing experience which I am so glad I followed through with. I hope you’re having a wonderful week so far, thank you again for the awesome comment :-) also, did you happen to receive your package from to Blind brothers yet? Thanks again, Matt
This was a great video, with the basics and can help encourage people to get out and get comfortable with their canes. One thing I remember early in caning was the discovery of some muscles in my forearms and hands I hadn't known existed before. I started switching hands a lot to alleviate some of the muscle tension. Your tip on keeping centered in your form is also really a golden thing to remember. I've hit my brow bone hard a couple of times when I barely missed a 4 by 4 inch post holding up an eave that I was caning for, knowing it was there, but in hindsight probably did not have my hand centered with my body, and was listening to a bunch of people over by the pool where I live, as I headed for the laundry room wide sweeping just past those eaves. Sometimes if I start feeling like I'm getting sloppy, (close to home), I start humming the little "Head and Shoulders, Knees, and Toes" song from summer kid camp morning calisthenics. If I think through touching both shoulders, ears, knees and toes, it lines me right up so my arc catches all but a few sideview mirrors on parked cars, and low hanging branches, or open truck tailgates. This is when a large billed hat or hard sun visor headband can help. So could the Yukon Crews, construction worker safety shades. Those have saved my nose and face a lot. Sometimes I just don't wear shades or end up wearing more flimsy ones because they go with whatever outfit, which is what I was also doing when I just about broke my brow bone. Water under the bridge.
Thank you, that means a lot coming from you! I know you are a seasoned cane user so it means so much to me to have such an encouraging comment. LOL, thanks for the extra advice and strategies that you also use went out navigating, I love it. Of course since I’m so new to this I wouldn’t know any of this yet, but you’ve been at it for so long I love the advice, thank you
Another fantastic video packed with so much great info. Especially like the real life examples and tutorials outside in the snow! Its frosty here in England also!
Hi! Thank you very much for the very nice comment and for watching this video, I’m so glad that you enjoyed it and liked the real life examples out in the field, I really enjoyed making this video. It was a lot of fun. Thank you for the feedback, it truly means so much to me! Have a great day and I hope to hear from you again sometime soon. Matt
BLINDEXPLORER2226 BLINDEXPLORER2226 And thank you to you too! You have been one of the first of subscribers on this channel from the very start, you have been and incredible advocate and offered so much support over the last couple years, you are a great person and friend. I have learned so much from you over the last couple years and you have encouraged me to get out and increase my independence and learn how to use a long white cane. That
Great!! Glad to hear someone do it because I haven’t seen anyone else with this type of information. I prefer my roller tip there’s nothing they can beat it in my opinion.
Thank you! I wanted to create this video because I thought it would be very helpful to many people. Thank you for the confirmation of that thought. I really appreciate it! It is nice to know that you use the rollerball, I really think I need to get one, it seems that everybody loves it! Thanks for the great Comet. Matt
Thank you, that is very kind of you, I really do appreciate it! Hope you enjoyed this one, thanks again :-) enjoy your evening, see you again soon. Matt
Snow and ice are conditions I haven't come across yet since my training. Don't think I could do it. Yes, I'm a chicken LOL But you on the other hand...Just a year ago, you probably couldn't have imagined creating this video! What an inspiration!! And by the way, you are so articulate in delivering information. As always, I really enjoyed the presentation! Mariko
Hi! It is so nice to hear from you. Yes, snow and ice definitely create an interesting situation for Cain travel. It certainly adds an interesting element to the whole process. Maybe you should visit Minnesota sometime and try for yourself :-) as long as you were here, it would be fun to meet you :-) thank you, I agree, a year ago it would not have even been a thought to create this video. LOL. Thanks for watching it and for your nice words :-) Matt
I am a left handed partially sighted or legally blind 58 year old female adult with limited vision and I use a white cane with a roller ball tip which needs a new tip soon.I have learned how to use my white cane since I was 19 years old and I have had o&m lessons whenever I move to a new area in Edmonton Alberta.I use my white came the same way that you do,I am mostly independent with some help when I ask for help,I am a short statutes middle aged lady that has been visually impaired since I was 3 years old and I have secondary cataracts again and under care from my eye doctor and specialist retina and cataract doctors or surgeons
Matt- great video, it is wonderful to see you confidently moving. I just had one suggestion, try using your cane in your left hand when your shoreline is on the right side, so that your cane is crossing your your body providing protection. The cane will also help with detecting the shoreline while keeping you at an adequate distance away from it. Same if the shoreline is on the left side, have the cane in the right hand. It is great when people are able to use the cane in both hands. One last comment, the cane is also very important for drivers and othe Pedestrians to learn that you have a visual impairment so they can give you extra space. Hope these tips help. Can't wait to learn more from you! Enjoy freedom..
Hi! Thank you for the recommendations. I will certainly try using it with my left hand, the only problem is that I am so uncoordinated with my left hand I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to figure it out. LOL, it is pretty bad. Just getting the rhythm of the tapping down with my left hand is certainly going to be a struggle. I appreciate the suggestions, that is interesting. And yes we always want to be seen by drivers to maintain safety. Thanks for watching this and for all of your encouragement and so much support, it truly means a lot! Have a nice day and see you soon :-) Matt
Yes, most people that don't use there non-dominate hand feel very clumsy and it takes a while to gain confidence, but it will really make a difference. When you only use one hand it's like mono. Vs stereo. You are only "seeing" the world on one side of you body. To be able to eventually switch and search on the left side of your body will reall change the way you feel the world. Please start and pratice inside in a safe area before you venture out into the world. Hope this makes sense, learn safely. Hope this makes sense. These are all life changing skills so take your time.. don't push your self to hard.
Leslie bailiff good morning! That is great advice. I will certainly try with my left hand. I know it will take me quite a while to get the rhythm and even just proper form down, but just like you mentioned, it would definitely be helpful in some situations to be able to use my left hand as well. Thank you, I honestly never even thought about teaching myself to use my left hand as well as right for the training. :-) I really appreciate it :-) Matt
Blind to Billionaire what I find useful is if you have a left-hander bailable to essentially if you’re coming to fall and you’re gonna bang smack into the wall where you can use your left hand to basically touch off the wall use it to turn you around watching you and I got you wanna go in and back you’re going in the direction you want to go in essentially I do it all the time
Wonderful, informative video. Hopefully, my orientation and mobility training will begin in the next two weeks. COVID-19 has delayed all services here. Thank you for sharing.
Hi, hopefully your training will go well, I know it will! The same thing happened here, my training has stopped until further notice. I wish you the absolute best, please let me know how it’s going in a couple weeks if you’re comfortable doing so. Thanks so much for your support, I look forward to hearing from you :-)
Matt, I am so proud of you! I haven’t been around in a while and I am so glad you went through OM training! It sure beats having to wait for someone to goto your mailbox for you. 😆👍🏻 Great video, great job and I hope you both are well!
Hey! It is so great to hear from you, thank you for the very nice comment. The funny thing is, I was literally just thinking of you the other day. So, it is so cool to hear from you. I agree, it is nice not needing to wait for someone to go to the mailbox for me, I can just grab my cane and do it myself. Thank you for the very nice words, I never realized the training it would give me so much freedom, independence, and confidence as a result this shortly after starting. It’s very exciting! Thanks again, I hope all is going well with you too :-) MATT
Patriot In The Dark hello my friend how is the linking shotgun project going because in my opinion you’re very good at charm assembling and disassembling the guns that you have
Blind to Billionaire that’s exactly what the claim does for you it gives you freedom and independence which is the equivalent of a sighted person has and that’s what we need in this world independence and freedom and just have a nice day my friend
So I’m not supposed to use my cane as a golf club and smack people in the ankle! No wonder folks have been getting annoyed with me LOL. Great video can definitely see it helping out those new to Cain travel
LOL, I guess you could do that, that would be a great strategy to keep people out of your way, just whack them in the ankle, that will surely make the move. LOL. Sometimes I joke around and tell Corey that my cane is a proctologist, if you don’t get out of my way do you know where it is going. LOL. Thanks for checking out this video. A lot of this comes from all of the encouragement you’ve been giving me over so many months to go through with the training, so thank you so much for doing that! The training has been absolutely life-changing. Have a great evening and see you soon. MATT
At some point it will happen to you as well my friend. Being a cane user it is inevitable that you will either hit someone in the ankle or the cane will find a crack in the road and you get jabbed in the stomach
Blind Shooter well I still hate people in the ankle with my cane I tried to apologise and such and such but if they’re gonna be on my way I’m sorry but you’re going to get a cane in the ankle
Hey bro it’s Jon I to started doing the cane late to in life all that matters is that we have taken the steps to embrace our blindness and use our skills to be who we are as brothers and sisters of the blind Community with the inspection from all those on TH-cam I don’t have to feel alone anymore and be a positive person.
awesome stuff matt ... I found a a beat up blind cane at a thrift store ... the tip was a rolling marshmallow that was in amazing shape ... was cheaper to buy that cane than to just buy a new tip
That is awesome! Wow, what are the chances of finding that out to a thrift store, that is so cool! I think that is the type of canned that I would like to get as well as tip. Very cool, thanks for the approval, I know that you are a long time can’t use her so it means a lot to me to have your
I enjoyed the video. I think it’s a good thing that there are different kinds of canes and different kinds of tips you can use, because people have different preferences. I prefer to use a folding cane with the all-terrain ball with the constant contact method. I like the feedback from it and that’s what works for me. I’ve use the pencil tip before, but I didn’t like that too much because the tip would get caught and cracks in the sidewalk and it doesn’t feel good to get jammed in the belly with a cane handle.
Hey Tiffany! I agree, there are so many different tips out there and everything works a little bit differently for everyone. I agree with you about the pencil tip, you need something bigger otherwise it jobs way too often in the cracks of the sidewalk. Thanks for the nice words, I’m so happy
Very informative! Thanks again for all the work you guys do. Not easy to do. I was worried there seeing the melted snow thinking you could slip if it were ice. Glad you guys are doing so well!
Hi, it is great to hear from you again. I thought for sure you unsubscribed and we would never hear from you again, but it is nice to have you back. Glad you enjoyed the video, I actually think this one turned out pretty well. Glad I stayed on my feet, that would’ve been embarrassing to slip on the ice. LOL. Have a nice warm evening in Florida. #Jealous
@@BlindtoBillionaire unsub? Working hard on Instagram. The photography is taking forever. Using a new lens and ditching old photos. Running out of hours in a day. Plus puppy training which is 24/7. I am so stinkin in love with this puppy, too. Love his personality to pieces! 78 here for a high. Tomorrow, warmer. 😁
Jannell Meagher that is exciting, congratulations on the progress you are making. Wow, 78° tomorrow, sounds amazing! I think it is supposed to be 35 here, which will feel amazing. It was 42° here today, it was like incredible! I was outside in a T-shirt soaking up the sun for the few minutes I had, it was so nice. Glad you are enjoying the dog as well as the new Instagram, great work!
@@BlindtoBillionaire Using a photographer, and myself in photos (sort of) it is a huge undertaking. Just when we thought we were ahead we bought a new lens and all but scrapped the photos and restarted last minute. So much for planning. We call the account "bluecapehero." Thinking of making business cards with puppy photos.
Awesome video man! You have come so far in a very short amount of time Matt and I am so proud of you my friend! I told you this experience would be life changing. Watch out Vegas. lol
Thanks Doug! You are absolutely correct, it has been a life-changing experience. I’m so glad that I went through with the training, I love the independence it is allowed me to gain :-) hope you’re doing well my friend
great video Matt I am thrilled that you have the opportunity to take orientation and mobility training. And I'm also thrilled that it's going so well thank you for sharing! I have an ambutech foldable cane with a roller ball tip. I am hoping someday to make a video about how I navigate but I don't have a camera person or a stand and anyway that's going to take some figuring out have a great day and thanks again for sharing I'm going to share this on my Facebook page
Good morning! That’s so awesome the type of cane that you have with a rollerball. As I have been working through all the comments on this way you’re responding to them, I would say the vast majority of people use a roller ball tip which is really exciting to hear all the feedback about it. It seems that everyone loves them! I do not have one, but I definitely want to get one as it will help avoid the cane getting stuck in all the cracks on the sidewalk. Thank you so much for sharing this video on your Facebook page, I actually think this is a pretty good video and it will be helpful to so many people. Thank you, and congratulations with everything you’re doing, I’m just excited for you :-) Matt
@@BlindtoBillionaire one thing about the roller ball is whether it is a slide on tip or a hook tip personally - I have a hook tip because there's less chance of losing it in my opinion but also it's a challenge when you need to replace that tip I had a couple of friends of mine help me change my tip I also use constant contact when using my cane. In the beginning I had a marshmallow tip and it was getting caught in sidewalks, cracks which are so very prevalent where I live and the rollerball helps with that significantly.and I use the constant contact technique with a rollerball because I feel like I can get more feedback from The cane and my cane is longer as well because when I feel confident my pace is faster and i get the feedback sooner which in turn increases my confidence when I am navigating and moving around. I have been working off and on on a video about how I got my first came it will come out eventually I have recorded the video a few times, i'll get it uploaded eventually.
Zara Pelfree Good morning, that is good to know! I definitely think I will get a rollerball as so many people including you love them. It was very interesting reading through the comments on this video as so many people recommended the rollerball. I just love the fact that it won’t be stuck in the cracks of the sidewalk. LOL. Thanks for the recommendation! :-)
@@BlindtoBillionaire you are more than welcome matt. and thank you for the encouragement to continue my persistence in getting orientation and mobility training here where I live. I believe it is important to have training where I'm going to be living in moving and navigating my world not that it's not important to know how to navigate anywhere where I find myself but to begin where I live in the places that I go would benefit me more right now in situation. Have an awesome day
Hey Matt, this video was so fun to watch because we have followed your progress from resisting the cane and now just flying down the sidewalk independently. Your cadence and your gate is so rapid and confident. I can hear that in the video. Your descriptions prior to the walk are excellent and perfect for someone who cannot see the video. I would venture to guess that this tight video, your video, was not available to you when you researched, how to walk with a white cane, right? This is going to be so helpful for so many people, even me, yes I do use a guy dog but just yesterday, was using my white cane for in-dept exploration. My go to Kane has a ceramic tip that I love and I have a longer one that has a rolling tip that looks kind of like a disk. Super informative and very exciting video to watch! Thanks! Love, Beverly
LOL Beverly, just think, just a few months ago if you would’ve asked me to walk with a white cane, I would have known had no idea what to even do with it. Do I keep it on the ground, do I tap it, how do I use this thing? LOL. The amount that I have learned as well as the gaining of independence, freedom, and confidence has been incredible, it is so cool to see! Thank you for all the words of encouragement, it truly means so much to me! It is cool that you were out with your cane the other day doing some exploring, that is awesome! Correct, just a few months ago I don’t know if there was some type of resource like this, i’m excited to create this video to hopefully help a lot of people. Thanks for watching it! Matt
The only problem that I have when using my white cane is when I go on my walks on the side walk that has really bad cracks, potholes and chips in a large area around my townhouse side walk area so I avoid that area and walk across the parking lot and walk on the side walk to go to the bus stop to wait for the bus and go on it to wherever I want to go to the mall.I also use the data car as well for appointments
@@BlindtoBillionaire you are most welcome mate and stay positive and stay strong wishing you all the best mate for the future keep on going forward there is no stopping you now
BLINDEXPLORER2226 BLINDEXPLORER2226 The same goes for you, keep a great attitude and you will literally be unstoppable! You are a great person and have so much potential.
Thank you! I’m so happy that you enjoy it. Thank you so much for the feedback, that helps a lot! I hope you’re doing well, and thank you so much for the support on this channel, I hope to hear from you soon. Matt
I have the folding cane with a marshmallow tip. I find it interesting that your instructor said to keep the sweep to your shoulder, while mine said to go further to each side. She also told me to start with the cane on my subdominant side, but then found out I don't start with my right foot all the time. As long as I'm able to dodge the corners, walls, and poles, I guess I'm happy. Maybe, my new instructor will figure me out.
Hi! That is awesome that you have a collapsible cane with a marshmallow tip. It is interesting that your instructor and my instructor gave us different directions, but I guess there is a different strategy for each instructor, I guess whatever works for us to keep us safe, that is what matters the most. I’m excited to hear about your sessions with your new instructor, I hope you’re having a great week :-) Matt
@@BlindtoBillionaire It's calmer than last week. The batteries for the solar panels were installed last week and the tax prep appt. Saturday, we added a new baby boy to the cousins, he's the same generation as my grandkids. Tomorrow, will be stressful, the baby is having heart surgery in Texas, and here- provided it isn't raining, the inspector should come and approve the Tesla Batteries, then final tweaks on the solar enphase system will be done the next day. Family dinner was tonight, we had breakfast for dinner with King Cake for dessert. Might as well have a little fun! Have a great week!
@10,000 Steps I finally found a "small" pocketbook that it will fit in. I hate big pocketbooks, I just keep filling them up until they're too heavy to carry.
Katrina Hough wow, you always have so much going on. I wish the absolute best for the surgery in Texas, that sounds scary but I will definitely be thinking of you and your family. I hope everything goes well. As for the solar panels, that sounds really cool. I think that is so awesome you were doing solar panels! Have a great week, I love hearing about your life :-) hope the family dinner went well :-) Matt
Hey my friend, that is great advice! Thank you for letting me know, since I do not have the tip yet, it is nice to know this for when I do get one. Thank you so much! :-) Matt
Hey Matt this video is very good and very informative also very inspiring said I say for anyone who's considering on wanting to use a cane and might be a little nervous about o&m training. Myself as a person who still has some usable vision I like using the cane because it allows me to focus more on my environment and not have to be staring at the ground wondering if I'm going to stumble over an object or an uneven surface. And it also identifies me as someone who is visually impaired very important when crossing streets since I don't have much of a visual field to work with it's very easy for me to not notice vehicles that are about to turn. The two tap method is great however I prefer the constant contact therefore I would definitely recommend the roller ball tip if you ever want to use Constant Contact it won't snag on you and it rolls over just about all the little small rocks and cracks in the sidewalk the marshmallow tip is good also for constant contact the only thing is it might snag a little bit more than the roller ball tip but the advantages that it's lighter than the roller ball the two tap technique is definitely not recommended for the roller ball tip as it can be pretty heavy your hand will get very tired. I also have that thin ID cane that you showed I use that one when I go to my doctor appointments only because I'm not going to be doing very much walking except from the car into the building and that's about it.
Good morning Sam, thank you for the information regarding the rollerball. After reading through all the comments and responding to them, it is obvious that I think the roller bottle is by far the most popular tip the people enjoy. I would say the vast majority of people love the rollerball tip, which is really great to hear. But yes I completely understand how it is probably more heavy than just a standard metal or ceramic tip like what I have. It is nice that you use a cane when you’re out and about to help you avoid possibly tripping or obstacles. Thanks for watching this video, it’s great to hear from you! Thanks again Sam :-) Matt
Thank you! I’m so happy you enjoyed this video, it was a lot of fun to create. Thank you for watching it, it is nice to hear from you again, I hope all is well :-) Matt
You're doing great! I just work with an O&M trainer about once a month. My progress is much slower than yours. My instructor has taught me to sweep with the cane. It's easier to identify intersections. The ADA declined pavement for wheelchairs. Often it has a truncated dome which really on the slant. The cane picks that up right away. I do my training with a mask since I still have central vision. Crossing intersections with traffic is still scary. Have never tried a heavily trafficked one. I have to determine where my parallel traffic is as well as perpendicular . I haven't done it much yet.
Go4it Good morning! You will certainly get there, I never thought I would get anywhere with my training, but I cannot believe how much I have learned and advanced in just a couple months. If there’s anything I can do to help you or answer any questions, feel free to ask and I’ll do anything I can to help you. He will eventually learn crossing streets and timing traffic, but it takes a little while to get there. You need to learn the basics before learning the crossing of intersections. I hope you’re having a great day, talk to you soon
Unfortunately my white is hard to use it outside in the snow in my country and city which is a lot of snow on the ground with more snowfall coming soon in March of this year
Hi Matt Great video x I have a white cane with a roller ball it's okay but cracks on the path it can get stuck. My cane length reaches my armpit I'm only 5ft1 so I dont use any taller then me .
Hi Tony! Thank you so much for the information, it seems that everybody commenting on this video loves the rollerball, I may to get need to get myself one as well! I love the fact that it does not get stuck in the cracks on the sidewalk, I feel like that is very important. Thanks for sharing what you use, it is nice and fun to learn more about you :-) I hope you’re having a great week so far, huge hugs, Matt
Hi Matt how are you? I am currently using a jumbo rolling ball cain tip. It kinda looks like a doughnut but with out the hole. Loved this video! hope you have a great day
Hi! I am doing well, how was your day going? That is awesome, how do you like using that tip? I feel like it would be a lot nicer so that you’re not getting jabbed from the cane being stuck in cracks. I think that is the type of tip that I would like to get as well. Thanks for watching the video in for the comments
Blind to Billionaire my old roller ball tip broke so I decided to get something more durable. The CNIB web site said it was a high mileage option. Also it doesn’t really get caught in cracks. I personally like this tip the best so far, I haven’t been jabbed in the tummy since I’ve gotten it.
I love it, I may need to get myself one. I love the fact that you have not been nearly impaled by your cane after getting this tip. LOL. Luckily I did not get jabbed with my cane in the video, but it happens way too often. Thanks for the great information!
Yes, when the cane gets stuck and getting jab in the abdomen, that is not fun at all. LOL. I feel so bad about this, I don’t think I’ve ever asked, what is your name? I really enjoy talking with you, you’re such a great person. :-)
Hi Matt! You’re doing fantastic! Great job negotiating the neighbourhood. Is that sidewalk also a bicycle path? Could be tricky travels if it is. Myself I was taught the constant contact technique using a roller marshmallow but I find I like the rolling ball better as it finds the cracks and upheavals without jamming as much. Now with the rough textured concrete paths roads and piers I encountered in the Caribbean I actually lost about 3/16 of an inch off the balls contact portion! When I replace it I’ll order the more expensive high mileage ball tip. Maybe you could ask your instructor if this technique would be ok for you.
Hey my friend! Yes, it is also a bike path. I agree with you, I would like to switch tips on my cane as tapping back-and-forth is fine but yet constant contact is my preferred method in some situations and not even an option with the current tip I have because it gets jammed in cracks way too often and jabs back at me. I should definitely talk to my instructor about changing my primary method. Hope you’re having a great day, thanks for the nice words of encouragement!
I can imagine your tip getting caught in a crack, OUCH! That could hurt! And damage your cane too. You have a fair bit of snow there, not much our way for now...it’s coming tonight and the rest of the week though.
Trip Reviews yes, having the cane get stuck in a crack or in the snow is never fun. But yes, I think I definitely need to grab one of those roller balls as so many people have them that commented on this video and said that they love them. Well I hope you enjoy the snow, stay safe and have a great week, see you again on Thursday but hope to talk to you sometime again before then. Matt
My white is a fold up white cane and every 6 months or so I have to replace the tip because I use it daily and the tip wears out, soon I am going to buy another roller ball came tip from the Calgary cnib store
Hi Matt, I was always very poor at using a white cane. I was always nurvice while using it/ This is why i now have a leader dog. Here is an interesting thought (off topic) every now and again I will think to myself, why not open my eyes and look at what i am doing! I then laugh and go on with what ever I was doing. At the time, I really feel I should open them so I can see. LOL
LOL, you’re funny! I wish I could be as easy as just simply opening our eyes! LOL, that would be so funny. The holy Grail, you figured it out, just open your eyes everyone! LOL. Thanks for making me laugh. It’s OK, no need to be proficient with Cain travel if you have a guide dog, that is so awesome! Thanks for the great comment and for watching this video, that is so nice of you :-) Matt
Blind to Billionaire well to actually open your eyes it’s very hard sometimes I find it very hard to open my eyes and when I do well they’re just blinking really
Very amazing video well done and very inspirational very informational video and I use a folding long white cane with a jumbo ball and my other folding long white cane I use a rover TIP what is a rubber wheel
Thank you Richard, you were always so nice and thoughtful. It is cool that you use a rollerball tip, reading through the comments on this video it sounds like a lot of people really enjoy the rollerball, thanks for the recommendation! Matt
@@BlindtoBillionaire you are most welcome mate and they have loads of different things to help blind and low Vision people out from cooking to cleaning to playing games to navigation to toys they have everything

Hello good morning ! Every time you do well on this topic i'm just blued . Sadly akane is not accessible to me pan intended . It costs as please $80 here in the philippines to get one . Oh well i will live through you for the meantime . Thank you again for sharing more power to you hugs and kisses from manila philippines
I did a Google search and came across resources for the blind Inc., a non-governmental Christian Organization that helps people in the Philippines with visual impairments. Depending on your location, they will provide you with a white cane as well as mobility training.
@@kimlackey4135 hello game ! Thank you and yes i am in touch with them . For quite some time now . It is not free to be honest . Again they are a non-profit organization and training is so limited compared to what i have seen from you guys on here on youtube . Anyhow i really appreciate you taking the time out . They are the only one available here and it is a sad truth . Again thank you hugs and kisses from manila philippines
@@kimlackey4135 honestly kim , i'm not really sure what i prefer at the moment . I have not tried any at this point . Hi! Thank you for your nice comment! I actually think this video turned out really well, I appreciate your very kind words. I wish I could just get a bunch of free canes and ship them to you and a couple other cool friends who also live in the Philippines who watch this channel. Thanks for being such a great friend, huge hugs, Matt
Hi, thanks for the questions. Due to my schedule, I am only training two times per week and the sessions last about two hours each. That is what we schedule for, twice per week and two hours per session. But lately the weather has been actually pretty cold, so I haven’t done any sessions in a couple weeks, but I plan to do more of this coming week. I hope that answers your question. Feel free to ask any additional questions if you would like me to eat elaborate. Thank you, MATT
Blind to Billionaire well despite my having training because of the weather it’s good that you’re practising because that’s another aspect of mobility practice practice practice practice question will you practice the more you get good at it which is what you’re doing at the minute
@@BlindtoBillionaire Thanks. How often do you practice on your own? I know I'm not putting enough time in, but now that the weather is 60 -70, I have more opportunities to practice. I use the sweeping technique so I don't trip over something directly in front of me. I still have 20/20 central vision, so l wear a mask.
Go4it good morning! To be completely honest with you, I haven’t done much practicing on my own simply because of the weather this time of year. The weather has actually been pretty cold lately, but this week is actually supposed to be pretty warm. Warm and being in the low 40° range. That is actually pretty nice for us. Later in the week I have some free time, I plan on going out and doing some exploring on my own. I’m excited for the weather to warm up so I can get out and navigate a lot more by myself. So to answer your question, not very much right now, but as the weather warms up and the snow melts, I will definitely be out much more.
Your cane is a lot longer than the canes I have used; I thought canes went up as high as the armpit. Is it because you use two point touch rather than constant contact.
Hey Matt! I am about 5 foot seven and I prefer a cane that only comes up to about my upper waist. I don’t like one that jets out too far from me because then I feel like I’m going to catch something and knock it over or whatever. Which is kind of ironic because that’s what it supposed to do, is to keep me from running into that very thing I’m afraid of knocking over LOL
Hi mom! That is perfectly fine, whatever you are comfortable with, but yes that is exactly what the cane is supposed to do, help you detect the obstacles so that you avoid walking right into them. One thing I have learned about the white cane is that there’s no perfect length, it varies between everybody. I just prefer something a little bit longer so that I get feedback more quickly before I walk right into it. LOL. Hope you’re having a great evening :-) Matt
Blind to Billionaire mom? LOL, I went from Cyndi to Mom, that’s awesome! Is that because you said me and your mom would get along so well with the crafting? 😁
Creations From the Table good morning mom! LOL, yes that is one reason plus I feel like we had a true heart to heart last week so now I will just call you, mom :-) have a nice Wednesday, see you tomorrow. Matt
Blind to Billionaire yes!!! I love it son! LOL. Again, thank you so much for all your help. My newest video went up today! Honestly I really don’t know that I would have been doing this yet if it were not for your encouragement and inspiration of the videos that you guys are doing. Keep it up!
Creations From the Table hi mom! It is so nice to hear from you, I have been thinking of you today! That is so cool, congratulations on your second video! I still need to watch it. Thank you once again for the very nice words, I’m here to help you in anyway I can. I would do anything for my mom! LOL ;-) I’m so glad that you are following through with this, I think you will find it to be very fun. Have a great evening :-) Matt
Hey Scott, I actually got it for free at a seminar. I’m not sure if it was a foundation fighting blindness seminar, or a different one, but they had them there for free so we grabbed one. I’m sure you could get one on Amazon for probably just a couple dollars, they are very basic, you could probably get one for $10 or less I would guess on Amazon. I hope that helps, thanks Scott :-) Matt
Hi! Thank you so much for watching this video and for reaching out to me. Yes, I actually started orientation and mobility training back in November 2019, so I have not been doing this all that long at all, just a couple months. I hope that answers your question. Thanks again for watching this video and for reaching out to me, it is so great to connect with you. I appreciate all of your support and friendship :-) Matt
les flower you are welcome! And thank you for being here as well as your support and friendship :-) thank you for the nice words, I’m glad you enjoyed the videos :-) Matt
LOL Steve! Yes, that is one nice feature about the cane, it does not shed, you do not need to feed it, let it outside, and it is maintenance free for the most part. LOL. You are funny! I do not have a guide dog yet, but I’m guessing someday I probably will :-) thanks for watching this video. Matt
It really depends on what a I’m doing. If I’m going to be out and about in a crowded area I like one at the height of the arm pit but if I’m going to a new area I like a longer cane up to my nose.
That makes sense, I like that strategy. If you’re going to be in a congested area, it would probably only make sense to have a shorter cane versus having a extra long one when I was navigating outdoors. Great point
Hi! That is awesome you are collecting multiple different tips. I think that is awesome, I would like to come get a couple different ones as well. Especially a rollerball, I think that would be so much easier in some of the situations I encounter. Thanks for checking out this video, it is nice to hear from you. Matt
Wow cool video great tips I see you got some white stuff on the ground just one question when it comes to icy conditions are you able to detect it easily? ,But no snow here, you can keep it 😜💪. Proud of you buddy keep your chin up one day at a time
Hi my lover! I mean, Sean! LOL. Yes there’s definitely some snow on the ground here, not a ton, but we still do have some. The last few days have actually been pretty nice, warm I mean which is nice. When I go outside when there’s snow on the ground it is just very bright, I typically cannot see other anything other than the fact that it is incredibly bright outside. I hope that answers your question. Thanks for all the encouragement, you are so incredibly nice and thoughtful! Hope you’re having a great evening, see you soon. Matt
@@BlindtoBillionaire nice! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣Too funny,Yeah yesterday he was quite warm here as well it was 10 Celsius or 50 degrees Fahrenheit however you read it. Wow, that sounds very warm, exciting! Hopefully you were outside at tanning so you can turn into a sexy little brown bear. LOL. Thank you my friend, I am also rooting for you, you are so special and sweet! Just like a doughnut! I just want to bite you all over. LOL ;-)
Hi! Thank you for watching this video, it is nice to know what type of tip you use on your cane, that’s exciting! I need to get one of those, I think I would like it much more than the current metal tip I am using. Thank you
Hi, I actually agree with you. I think constant contact is so much better, but with my current cane tip, there’s no possible way that I can do that whenever getting outside as it gets stuck in the cracks on the sidewalk way too easily. However, indoors at a shopping mall it works great! Thanks for watching this video, see you soon. Matt
Well i must say i can see, Nick were i live you need a long broom stick with a Nail on the end, you know like you pick up leaves with because the Streets are full of Trouble. Stay Safe.
Hi! That is a great question, for me I would say it does not hurt my wrist, but I have heard from many other people that the wrist does get sore and hurt after a while. Just like everything, it just takes conditioning. I hope that answers your question :-) see you soon :-)
Hi! Thank you so much for checking out this video and for the comment. It is great to hear from you and I sincerely appreciate your support on this channel! Matt
I’m 5 feet 5 1/2 inches tall, but I alternate between my 67 inch folding and straight cane typically, but I do have a 67 inch telescoping cane. I prefer a very long cane as I walk fast. If I had my way, my canes would have sirens 🚨 on them. Flashing lights would be great too. 🤣👩🏽🦯🧑🦯
Good morning! Actually, the person I was referring to in this video who prefers a cane as tall as they are, was actually you! LOL, I was going to give you a little shout out right there, but probably figured you would know it is you that I’m talking about. LOL. Oh wow, I didn’t realize you have a telescoping cane. It seems like that is a pretty cool concept, but it seems that the majority of people probably prefer a collapsible cane over telescoping, possibly because they are not aware of the telescoping? I’m not really sure, either way sounds pretty cool to me! :-)
I was wondering about that. I said, “Sounds like me. So I’m not the only person who uses a cane taller than they are.” Telescoping canes are great in a pinch, but they do have a tendency to collapse on you while in use. I think of mine like a doughnut spare tire. Good enough to get you to a better functioning tire/cane.
Darque Queen LOL, yes I was definitely talking about you. As for the telescoping cane, I have heard the exact same thing from my orientation and mobility instructor. He said the concept is great, but they collapse while in use and he said it is the most annoying thing. LOL, I didn’t exactly want to see that in the video, but my instructor basically said stay away from telescoping cans, they are a pain in the ass. LOL :-)
That was a lot of fun to learn how to have confidence and to be aware of the surroundings and be more independent.
MATT
M H that’s good although I hope you know you’re not alone because I am blind and autistic as well and I have asked burgers and I just want you to know that you’re not alone even though I don’t know you
@@jordanmahonytheblindworld8483 thanks it's nice to not be alone. People really don't get the sensory issues and being blind.
So, so proud of you, Matt!!
Thank you Patti! That is so nice of you :-) I hope you are doing well! Stay safe
Matt
Blind to Billionaire do you not my friend you’re doing it
I know how you feel about 10 years ago should I probably won’t be at training because I have that requires well but you’re here and you’re doing what you’re doing and I’m here and I’m doing what I’m doing shall keep up the good work
Hi Matt, great to see you do this all. I guess you are much more comfortable now and I have the feeling you are already much more happier now than before. I am very proud of you. Really happy to see it all worked out for you. Love sabrina
Hi Sabrina! It’s so great to hear from you, it has been a while. I hope all is going well for you! Sabrina menten hey Sabrina it’s good to hear from you again it’s been awhile how are you how is life going and are you still doing okay I suppose
Hey Matt, great video. I agree with you on getting white cane training. Its giveb me a more freedom and im still in training. See yall soon.

Blind to Billionaire what I find useful is if you have a left-hander bailable to essentially if you’re coming to fall and you’re gonna bang smack into the wall where you can use your left hand to basically touch off the wall use it to turn you around watching you and I got you wanna go in and back you’re going in the direction you want to go in essentially I do it all the time
Well done Matt great video hope you had a great weekend enjoy your week
Hey my friend! Thank you, I’m glad you approved of the video, you also have a great week, thanks for watching as always
Thanks so much for your support, I look forward to hearing from you :-)
Hey guy I enjoy the roller ball tip on my ambutech cane I got love it.
I haven’t been using it long I’ll get better as I do this guy.
Matt, I am so proud of you! I haven’t been around in a while and I am so glad you went through OM training!
It sure beats having to wait for someone to goto your mailbox for you. 😆👍🏻
Great video, great job and I hope you both are well!
@@BlindtoBillionaire Thank you Matt. Going to be a lot more work than I thought. Moving forward for sure, though.

great video Matt I am thrilled that you have the opportunity to take orientation and mobility training. And I'm also thrilled that it's going so well thank you for sharing! I have an ambutech foldable cane with a roller ball tip. I am hoping someday to make a video about how I navigate but I don't have a camera person or a stand and anyway that's going to take some figuring out
have a great day and thanks again for sharing I'm going to share this on my Facebook page
@@BlindtoBillionaire one thing about the roller ball is whether it is a slide on tip or a hook tip personally - I have a hook tip because there's less chance of losing it in my opinion but also it's a challenge when you need to replace that tip I had a couple of friends of mine help me change my tip
I also use constant contact when using my cane.
Thanks E J, that is nice of you! Glad you enjoyed it :-) hope you and Betty are doing well. Talk to you soon. Matt
Matt
Bama Blind that’s good to know my friend how are you what’s up I’ve been talking to you in awhile so how are you doing

Well done Matt! I learned a lot. Thank you!!
Thank you Steve! That is so nice of you to say, I am glad that you learned a lot from this video! :-) Hope your week is going well, talk soon
One thing to know about the rolling marshmallow tip is that dirt can get stuck in the part that makes it roll so it’s good to rinse it in water
Hey my friend, that is great advice! Thank you for letting me know, since I do not have the tip yet, it is nice to know this for when I do get one. Thank you so much! :-) Matt
You’re doing wonders my friend keep up the training because I’m proud of you
Thank you Jordan, that is so nice of you.
Love it Matt!
Thanks. My next session is this Friday 2-28-20
I use my white came in both my left and right hand
Unfortunately my white is hard to use it outside in the snow in my country and city which is a lot of snow on the ground with more snowfall coming soon in March of this year
Great videos! I am doing some research on white canes and I am wondering what is the weight of your straight cane with metal tip?
That’s awesome. 🤗
Blind to Billionaire I would have to say being jabbed with a cain is a big ouch
It’s up there with paper cuts and stubbed toes.
Matt
Yes Matt have a look at Amazon or the Ambutech website.
Trip Reviews thank you, I will do that! :-)
My white is a fold up white cane and every 6 months or so I have to replace the tip because I use it daily and the tip wears out, soon I am going to buy another roller ball came tip from the Calgary cnib store
Hi Matt,

This is why i now have a leader dog.
LOL. How often are your O&M training sessions and how long do they last?
If I have depth perception problems, can I do the orientation?

I am definitely in the guide dog handler camp. But I still carry a cane from time to time. At least my cane doesn’t shed hair. Ha ha.
Great point
I'm collecting different kind of tips. I use the Rover for a lot of my excursion's.
Hi! That is awesome you are collecting multiple different tips. I think that is awesome, I would like to come get a couple different ones as well.
LOL ;-)
@@BlindtoBillionaire lmao 😜 boy Matt you're really warming it up tanning my brown baby-faced bottom lol
Matt do you have some useable eyesight and you mentioned that you have been using your white cane for a little while now
I use a folded cane with a marshmallow tip for o and m the ridged cane creates an echo that hurts my ears
Hi! Thank you for watching this video, it is nice to know what type of tip you use on your cane, that’s exciting! I need to get one of those, I think I would like it much more than the current metal tip I am using. Thank you
I don't like the tap technique. I prefer the continuous contact technique
Matt
My old cane is called Caney and my newest one is called Caners. XD I think Caners in my favorite. :D XD
Well i must say i can see, Nick were i live you need a long broom stick with a Nail on the end, you know like you pick up leaves with because the Streets are full of Trouble. Stay Safe.
LOL, you’re funny. You stay safe as well
Hi Matt! I've heard using a cane hurts your wrist. Do you experience that too?
Hi! That is a great question, for me I would say it does not hurt my wrist, but I have heard from many other people that the wrist does get sore and hurt after a while. Just like everything, it just takes conditioning. I hope that answers your question :-) see you soon :-)
Rambling Millennial it depends with some people I can her for some people it just doesn’t hurt at all
Is there anything else to tell people you are visually impaired besides the cane ????

LOL :-)
Blind to Billionaire are used to have a kind of data and it was a pain in the ass
Blind to Billionaire what I’m saying is are used to have a cane like that and it was a pain in the ass
