I found marking the start of the thread on the outside of the pump module nut & the start of the thread on the neck onto the tank top with a paint pen then place the nut on & push down until it clicks over the start of the threads then turn & you won't cross thread it. Look from the side to make sure it's going on evenly. There are pump nut special service tools available cheap online to remove & replace those pump nuts as they can be on hard. Before I loosen the nut I mark the original nut position onto the tank with a paint pen so it goes back on to factory specs. That rubber seal should be fitted to the pump module before install & make sure its correctly positioned in the neck before putting the nut on. E.F.I hose clamps that are screwdriver operated are superior to those factory crimp clamps.
Great video, Beth... and thank you for making this! My son just bought a used Ryker and on first fill up, it had a major fuel leak... I had a feeling it was coming from the fuel pump locking ring and once we got into it (after watching your video) it looks like whoever did the fuel pump recall dropped the gasket into the tank! We now have a leak-free Ryker ;o) Thank You!... and subbed!
You should be a Can-Am technician I have followed you since I bought my Ryker. The Ryker is the most fun you can have with your cloth on 😅 ❤ your video's thank you. Bruce, new Zealand
Just did this one today and your video helped tremendously, especially the panel part. I used the kit that replaces just the pump, regulator, and filter. I will never to that again, as it only saved me about $80 but cost me hours of time and anxiety. I did want to mention that I followed the service manual which instructs that before messing with any fuel hoses to depressurize the fuel hoses by disconnecting the fuel pump electrical connector on top of the fuel tank while the engine is running and let the fuel lines depressurize, killing the engine. Because of this I had very little fuel come out when I disconnected the hose.
this is another one of those things that BRP/Can Am does that I just shake my head at. Really.. no other way of replacing the fuel filter except buy the whole entire unit again??? what a waste of resources/time/money. You did a great job on this video. I agree that most people probably ignore this due to price and frequency of the recommended changes. Between this and the CVT belt.. cost of ownership goes way up for someone that puts down alot of miles.
Great job Beth. That’s a tough job to tackle for the first time. Thanks for sharing this with us . Keep up your repairs and maintenance projects. I am sure it will help with mine and others.
This is a good vid, but you can buy just the filter. It still requires the removal of the fuel pump assembly, but you don't need to replace the whole thing.
Pro Tip: At 6:00 you see the fuel line coming off the fuel pump. Add an inline fuel filter there and remove the filter on the pump, Instead of having to replace the whole pump at the $100-200 a pop ever 6000 miles You can just replace the filter for a couple of bucks. and you will no longer have to open the tank to get at the pump/filter. NOTE: I would only do this if you have an actual gas cap and not just open like the older rykers as debris can be sucked in to the pump and cause damage to the pump.
Admire your tenacity Beth, i had just read several posts on fuel pump problems and thought i'd look and see if you've addressed this issue. I didn't have to look far, so i was wondering how many miles did you have on your Ryker before you replaced the fuel pump and were you having problems preceding the replacement???.....as always , thanks for your informative videos.
Sorry for the delayed response. I had approximately 20,000 miles on my Ryker when I switched out the fuel pump. The bike kept going into limp mode, only after riding for over an hour. The dealership had no clue. I just started switching out things to see what would work. The last thing I tried was the fuel pump, and to my surprise, it worked!! Ps thanks for watching!!
Those in tank pumps are a PITA no matter what they are on. Have a jd 455 mower with a kubota diesel that kept having fuel starvation problems. Replaced in tank pump and filter and fixed the problem. Really don't like those little in tank sock filters.
@@RykerRydesthese dealers lack certified canam mechanics and some still act like they have no clue whats going on. Its wild. Highly dissapointed regarding maintenance cycles and lack of physical support . Canam needs to increase incentives and wages for certified specialists because what i heard is they dont make Jack compared to actual mechanics at new car dealerships.
I would like to ask, the fuel pump I purchased does not come with the lower connection plug, what is the purpose of this plug? Can I not install the center plug? Looking forward to your reply, thanks!
I am totally amazed at what you are willing to tackle for the benefit of your subscribers. Some of your projects, such as this one, would scare off 90% of the people I know. But you make every task, no matter how complex, easy to accomplish. Very well done. Question: would someone, like me, who has man sized hands and forearms, also be able reach into that access hole? Or do I need to fly you up to my garage to get out any dropped items? @Ryker_Jim posted about the QFS Fuel Pump Strainers on Ebay. Now that you have the old unit out, can you tell if the strainer can be removed from the unit so as to use one from Ebay? Also there are a lot of different versions of the QFS Fuel Pump Strainers he refers to. Can you, @Ryker_Jim, identiify which filetr is the correct one? Tnx.
You should disconnect your battery before disconnecting or moving any wires, just to reduce the chance of short circuit. Spring clamp or something similar to close off the fuel line before removal, no leakage ar spraying fuel that way. Diagonal cutter, aka dykes cutter, to remove the fuel line clamp. The clamp must be replaced, do not reuse it.
Good tutorial video and pointers from some of the comments here. Was wondering if this would solve the issue of my fuel gauge stuck on full on my 2020 Ryker Rally. I can't get it to move other then saying full on both the readouts. Anyone else have this issue and replace the fuel pump assembly ?
Was checking out the recalls on can am website, and noticed the new fuel pump you installed is listed as one of the possible affected units. Just an FYI. The number on top of the fuel pump is listed on the recall notice.
Good video. Question, have you ever had trouble starting your ryker, here's what mine is doing. Sometimes it takes several times cranking it before it fires but once it starts it runs great (It's been doing that for a year but it doesn't do it every time), any ideas
@RykerRydes @RykerRydes about 11k, no I've never checked my plugs and that's a good place to start. If they are carboned up is there a way to adjust the air/fuel mixture even though it's fuel injected?
@@Coolbreeze61why would you want to adjust the values on air to fuel when there has been no actual modifications done on the engine. That would only make your engine run terrible. Also the stock ecu is Bosch and it takes some deep dive going on dealing with its codes , def wouldn't recommend unless your a tuner or have taken tuning classes regarding Bosch.
@RykerRydes no haven't changed them, really don't want to mess with anything as long as it's getting me from point A to point B (it's just annoying to sometimes have to start it 3 or 4 times before it grabs and idols like it supposed to)
Thanks for the show!!! I just ordered the parts for the job. I wonder why you didn't just get a regular hose clamp from the hardware store or auto parts store? Easy to get off next time . . . and reusable. Also, did you have much trouble getting the panels back on?
Why can’t you replace just the strainer at the bottom looks like it’s a torq screw and then just swap it? Is there something I’m missing I seen you can buy the strainers for cheap
Sorry for the Q but I just did this swap because my ryker would die after hours of riding seemed like the battery but found this as a symptom. after the istall it cranks up buts still a looooong crank trying to figure what else it could be thanks.
It’s super hard to diagnose without being there. How many miles do you have? Have you changed the spark plugs yet? Could be so many things? Starter? Rectifier?
Ok so I believe it was a combination of fuel filter and corroded connection on the solenoid. removed the solenoid to do a function check (it passed) but I noticed the rear connection that is farthest away from battery had corroded at the seat where the connection is made. so cleaned everything up and no more long turnover. Thanks you again for the videos! @@RykerRydes
I took mine in for the fuel pump recall. The dealer replaced the fuel pump, on the 90-minute ride home, noticed the fuel cap cover coming open. It is now so loose I am afraid it will come off. I assume that the dealer just didn't put something back in the right place. I watched this video hoping to see you take those pins out as I figure that is what they did, they didn't put one back.
Nah that's bs from canam on the belt in my opinion. The stock ryker generates such low horsepower that the chances of the belt slipping or blowing are extremely low.. Your literally waisting money. It's probably more towards 25 to 30,000 miles to change it.
You did a great job an I mean that but you can buy just the filter Can Am sell the same filter on many other models Not sure if it is just a screw or a rivet maybe for about $10.00 not sure why they don't sell separately money making maybe Keep up the video's very enjoyable
Out of all the comments, nobody even bothered to ask why are you changing the fuel filter so soon and I don't recall you mentioning what the symptoms were to make you think that you needed to change the fuel fliter
Great question. The reason I never mentioned it, was because, at the time my Ryker kept dying only after riding 2+ hours. VERY weird. I ended up swapping out a few things. Fuel pump being one of them. I am 75% sure that is what corrected my problem. But not 100% enough to tell everyone that's what they need to do. Hope that makes sense.
@@RykerRydes I think I have the same problem kept thinking it was the battery. It seems like a rough start with or without turnover is that what you meant by dying???
