12th - 13th February 2021 would had seen the Cale Rail Society host their annual Model Railway Exhibition, at the Gartell light Railway, Templecombe, Somerset. However, like many Model Railway Exhibition this year, the event had to sadly be cancelled.
So to mark the occasion, I've picked some of my favourite layouts from previous years to create this special two part Gartell Model Railway Exhibition highlights video, showcasing a wide selection of amazing model railways, in a variety of scales and gauges.
All being well, the show hopes to return bigger and better than ever next year!

I spent lots of time in the village of Templecombe with my parents in the caravan as a boy!! Is this Gartell Light Railway relatively new? If so, where in Templecombe is it?

@@SDJR7F88 thank you for the information. I was impressed with it, due to most layouts of that era have not scenery. Also I would be interested to see if it's still DC.
The camera work is good but the layouts are rubbish. Glad I did not pay for this exhibition.
Wow, what I nice thing to say about people's hard work. This is why you people are being put off from the hobby... One of the layouts featured was a first layout by a budding young enthusiast and his grandfather, I'm sure reading this will be very upsetting to them.
Looks like some solid modelling to me. What was it that you felt was lacking? Genuine question.
@@Night_Ferry My interest is in railways. That means to me trains, not scenery.I like to see trains running, preferably reasonable length trains. My favourite layouts are for example "Chapel-en-le Frith", "Westford", "Grantham the streamline years", "Kingsfield", "Spirit of Shap" etc.. Small end-to-end layouts have no appeal to me. Can be fun for the operator but boring to watch. My own layout under construction is 20ft x 9ft so I practice what I preach.
@@christopherbarton6770 every one has there preferences but to out right call them rubbish is stupid. Keep your opinions to your self. If you like continuous run layouts, then make one. If your viewing a model railway exhibition and not expecting end to end layouts, micro layouts and other such ones that have people work incredibly hard for hours and hours then you are purely an idiot. Keep such negativity to your self. People like you who "gatekeep" the hobby are the ones who scare away younger modellers. I don't like continental layouts but I don't go about calling other layouts that have time and effort put in to them rubbish. You shouldn't think everyone should bow down to you and do what you say and get rid of what you don't like. Have a day off mate
@@generalgrievous5615 I am delighted that you should see fit to air your views. A discussion of this nature is good for the hobby. My real complaint is that at exhibitions there are too few large layouts and too many small or micro layouts. I suspect that this is largely due to the economics of running an exhibition. However If I had travelled to the heart of Somerset to visit an exhibition at which there was not one layout in which I was interested I would have been rather annoyed. There are many "layouts" where the railway is subordinate to the scenery and model buildings. To my mind these are not model railways but more akin to model villages. For example "World's End" has many excellent models but very little railway. I think it is misleading to describe it as a model railway. I was probably wrong to describe the layouts at the Gartell exhibition as rubbish. Individually they are by and large fine models. As a whole the exhibition was in my opinion rubbish as a model railway exhibition and I would not visit it in future. Put half a dozen large layouts of the types I have listed together in an exhibition and I would travel a long way to see it and pay £30 plus as an entry fee.
