+SuperLocness it depends on how tight they can become. I tend to leave them until the wires slightly cut into the branches. Those cuts callous out and they create bulges in the branches making them look old and rugged. You have to frequently inspect though and decide whether they are too much. For new plants which are fast growing I leave them about 3 to 6 months, but for those already old bonsai and grow slowly sometimes I leave them 1 to 2 years.
xxx52bmo43 The best is a sealant made for bonsai because it has anti fungal medicine, but I use just an ordinary office glue..Elmer's glue to be exact, you can use many substitute such as shoe polish, clay, paint etc.. not a big thing.
nice as usual ... but instead of the foil i tried "teflon tape" (the one used for water fitting installing) ... then you dont need to fix it with wire and it fits perfectly ...
+Peter Hancl Brilliant idea, the teflon tape stretches a bit and tightens and excess teflon tapes are common after works. I'm using a cling wrap (for food) which I just grab out from the kitchen and I have plenty of used wire. So it is also about economics. thanks for the idea and thanks for watching.l
:) i found this out with the same reason like you ... had some at home ... just to save some money :) ... now using this for all kind of work with plants and trees where flexibility is needed not to hurt the plants ... real good working and no chance for water to get in ... where i need to secure it more, i use wax to cover all ends ...
I want to thank you for posting this to TH-cam, It is a blessing to see his skill and passion in action.
I find extreme operations like these really nerve wracking, and you make them look so simple. Thanks a lot for sharing.
Cheers from Brazil.
Do you use cut pieces of a garden hose for cushion on branch wire? WHat do you anchor it to?
