Wrestlemania IX was outdoors at Caesar's Palace and they did lean HEAVILY into the Greco-Roman aesthetic.
I also wonder where IX would have landed if Sophie was told the location...

@@ReddCyranoVery surprised no one in the video remembered the location and the theme. As hated as this WM is, the WM9 theme sticks out more than any WM theme.
They did a poor job emphasizing the theme of Wrestlemania IX. Maybe show her a clip of the show or something, like Undertaker’s entrance. I’m sure She would’ve given it a higher rating.

Well, I can safely say this.... if they worked at the place I did when I was in graphic design, they would've gotten fired on the spot for a lot of those takes by always asking does it conveys the intended message the client wants (i.e. promotion of an event) and would work on multiple forms of media (i.e. does the design work on a t-shirt, billboard, flyer, etc.). Also something is being re-used year after year with only slight changes (such as the early WrestleManias) that means the initial design does it job.
Wait...did Dante say Wrestlemania 33 is one of the worst Wrestlemanias in recent history? It has some downsides, but it has a lot of good stuff on it too. I'd put it above 32, 34, 35, and 36 for sure.
I felt the same way when he said that. HHH/Rollins killed it. Hardyz returning. Neville vs Aries was amazing. Brock vs Goldberg was good for what it was. Not to mention Shane vs AJ and Owens vs Jericho....idk why he thinks that.
@@mattg5257 The show ends on a low note with Taker/Reigns underwhelming, the women's match being forgettable, and Wyatt/Orton being a complete mess. Thankfully Brock and Goldberg was a fantastic 4 minute match or else everything after Rollins/Trips would've been bad. It was a poorly laid out card in that respect.

If you’re not a wrestling fan and have no attachment to these logos, and have to go through 40 of them, you’re gonna get sick of them after a while. If the Wrestlemania 2 design was used for a later Wrestlemania, I doubt she would have given it an S tier rating.

Using the same logo again is a weird criticism to me like, Wrestlemania is a brand, building a consistent identity for it is obviously an important part of recognizability. Star Wars has almost never changed its logo, because it’s the part of the iconography of the brand.
Idk , they already had an established event , so they could change it without losing the essence
@@lithium8083 but Wrestlemania isn’t just an event, it’s a brand that occurs outside the show itself. Merchandising is a big one, the Wrestlemania logo becomes a feature in and of itself, it needs to be immediately recognizable, and a consistent logo is part of that.

The "25th Anniversary" of WrestleMania was not the 25th Anniversary it was actually the 24th. They called it 25th Anniversary for the marketing when it actuality was just WrestleMania 25.
For those of you still confused WrestleMania 2 is the 1st anniversary. You don't celebrate an anniversary when something is born, you celebrate it the year after.
I have to defend WM31 slightly. Yes, it's bad. But it took place in Santa Clara, CA. It's in the middle of Silicon Valley. So they went with a more techie look. But again, still bad.
Plus that was the time WWE had just launched their own Network/streaming service so they were heavily pushing that.
She's a graphic designer but doesn't know what a Fleur de Lys is (I'm assuming among others as well) or how to read roman numerals... that could take a while to create concepts with a client.

I think 31 was judged unfairly for the lack of context, it was near the Silicon Valley where a lot of tech giants are based and the play button in the logo signified that by the state of technology by then with Apple and stuff like that

As it took place in the Bay Area, I always got the impression that Wrestlemania 31 was going for a sleak, Silicon Valley-esque vibe.
Main issue with WrestleMania 25 is that they branded it as the 25th anniversary of WM when in reality it was the 25th edition of WM. For that reason alone it should be bottom tier.

Just at the start, but that you did not know that WM 9 had the Roman Theme is pretty weak. The whole production was pretty cool. It was the first Outdoor WM as well. Lets see how this goes on...

Is this girl even a graphic designer? She doesn't give any detailed evaluations of the designs. Anyone can say it's "metallic" and "shiny". But saying they suck or is great without any explanation is a horrible way to rank designs

WrestleMania is the biggest event every year. 9 was “Roman colosseum” Caesar’s palace in Vegas, and from then on it kept being themed in image.
It has rich history and to detract from that is a disservice.
Btw WrestleMania 22 was from Chicago, the logo looked like bases from baseball, and it’s entrance ramp was meant to mimic the Sears tower

Is she really a graphic designer? One of the five design principles is repetition and she seems to get bored extremely quickly with the ones that aren't different enough.
I don't see her work either on Instagram. And being artist myself she rejects pretty good design. Plus background of the design should not change once opinion of the design.. SO I am annoyed

At first I was getting upset like "she doesn't know wrestling!" but she nailed it @15:07 . I would rate the Mania X-Seven logo S-tier because I have so much emotional attachment to it but I wasn't watching WWE during the WM 38 lead up, so that logo just looks generic to me. For the most part. WrestleMania logos are carried by the context/memories attached to them.
However, I will say, WrestleMania logos are made to look like Super Bowl logos and follow the design trends of Super Bowl logos but, imo WrestleMania logos wash most Super Bowl logos, on average

I think some frame of reference is important. For the first five years or so, WWE was trying to establish the brand identity of Wrestlemania. It was also the 80s when life moved much, much, slower.
When I think of the 80s I think of much flashier, cooler stuff than those early logos. Mania 2 honestly did have the right idea with a bright neon "2" in the back, that screamed very 80s to me. Then they just didn't keep going with it.
Saying life moved slower when everyone was on coke is crazy.
Why do some of these not look like the actual logo for that year? Like some looked like a recreation.

Wrestlemania 25 actually kind of annoyed me because they were calling it "The 25th Anniversary of Wrestlemania". Except that's not how anniversaries work. Wrestlemania 26 would be the 25th anniversary because it's 25 years after Wrestlemania 1. Points off for that.
WM 33 was honestly really good. The only mania I have been able to go to. Amazing crowd and spectacle.
It was good and the stage was so nice and we got the hardy boys return don’t know why he said it was one of the worst in recent years 🤷🏻♂️
