- In this video I take a close up look of KC HiLites Cyclone LED rock lights for the Jeep Wrangler and universal under the hood lights. The Cyclone LED’s are a multi-functional and compact auxiliary led light. These light were originally designed as a dome light for off-road racing in very harsh conditions, but since then folks like you have found many, many different uses for them.

Now I don’t do a bunch of rock crawling at night, but these are really going to help uncover some of the shadows of ruts and other obstacles, but more importantly for me, I am looking forward to just having some nice ground lighting when I’m outside the Jeep at night.
Brackets, wire loom, bus terminal, switches. I’ll show you a rough layout of what this will look like, but I’m just going to wire these straight to my spod and keep things simple.

In here we have 2 lights, but they do sell a single light package, it’s got a weatherproof switch, and all the wiring and hardware you need.
These are going to be really nice for me when I’m popping the hood to use my compressor…. Hopefully I’m not using them for a mechanical issue, but it will be nice to have them if needed. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ

I installed this KC light kit on two of my cars and now on my Jeep. I love these lights, they have saved my many times when working in the dark on oil changes or other work in the engine bay. Great Video! Thanks for showing the Jeep install.

Rock lights (also known as puddle lights at times) and underhood lighting are the first installs I do on ALL my vehicles! Even my family sedans.. LOL Love those KC lights!! Cheers!

I'm doing the same thing probably this weekend but I bought a different type of LED light...I also decided to use a mercury switch so the lights come on themselves when I open the hood. Just a tip I thought I'd share. Great videos, really like them.

These lights are great, with endless applications. I installed one on each side on my molle mount behind rear seats on window mounts for cargo lights. Sweet and easy.

On those lights that you put under the Jeep I have had Lights under my Jeep that blink that seems to keep away the little furry rodents that love to eat wiring. So far I used it for over 20 years and it's worked

I have ordered a set of the rock lights. I went with white, I wanted blue but wasn’t sure how much illumination it would provide and like you I’ll mostly use them to see what I’m about to step in/on. Another great video, thanks.

I completed the hood lights but cut the length them and added connectors to allow to be disconnected if hood has to come off. Also did rock lights and flipped the harness due to using a switch pod.

Always a good idea to remove rings/watches/anything metal when working with wiring or near the battery! Otherwise - great video as always.

Nice install Brad, mabye it’s a neat idea to use a nc switch. So when you open the hood, the lights turn on and when closed turned off. Greets Jasper.
Upgrading to an NC switch is a great idea.... something I may have to do in the future, thanks!!
The rock lights, I would add to more on the front bumper and two more at the back bumper.
The hood lights I would use a pressure switch (same switch normaly used on car alarm systems) on the hood, meaning as soon as you open the hood the lights come on. I would re-install the hood blanket (just cut two holes in for the light units), it will protect the hood paint against heat and it will keep some of the engine noise down.
The whole system is really easy to install; that is a big plus point.
Just my thought on the project, otherwise great DIY project.
I did swap the sides that the wires went on my rock lights due to switch pod box is under driver side.
Dang it Brad.... I really dig both lighting setups you covered here, as well as the "How to". Haven't done much of anything to my KL, due to most of my work going into my ADV motorcycle. This video however may have just changed some things. I feel like I've just been suckered into getting my hands dirty.

If you are in your engine bay as much as I am, its a perfect upgrade.
Have you considered mounting an auxiliary fuse box for all those wires going to you battery terminal. I mounted a marine 6 fuse box next to my battery and now i only have one heavy gauge wire going to the terminal. Its looks cleaner and its easier to wire and maintain.

The hood lights look great. Can you have them replace the factory under hood light
have you thought about running a momentary switch vs the toggle switch. set it up to when the hood is opened the lights automatically turn on?
Just a heads up, I would use something to act as a gromit on your hood where the wires run through the braces. Over time the sharp metal will rub through.

How is your setup holding up? Any issues with under hood lights or rock lights? I flipped the harness for the rock lights due to me using a ApolloNtech Switch pod.

Great video really like the under hood lights. I always like to plan for the worse and hope for the best, do you think you could install a switch that could cause them to flash? I was thinking if you were broke down you could lay the hood all the way back and set them to flash, it would draw a ton of attention if you needed it.
The spod touch screen version has a strobe mode version built in as far as I know. If not that you can buy a led flasher module. Checkout sirennet channel for led flasher. Hope that helps. :)
How did you manipulate the wires to rig to the SPOD? I am planning on doing the same and want to consult first and cut the wires correctly the first time!
Just curious how come you didn’t wire the hood lights into your spod? Not enough switches? I just picked up an spod and I’m looking to do a set up like yours.

TrailRecon how about when working under the jeep, does light bounce off ground enough to give enough light to bounce back up to undercarriage?
Nice, but wish they made them in RGBW color change type. That way we could use them as accent lighting in the mall parking lots. LOL Hey, what switch system are you using here? That definitely does tidy up the wiring process for your electrical accessories.

No idea if you will reply on this since it’s an older video but what did you zip tie the wires to when you routed the wire harnesses? Also, where the diffused lights a kit option when you got these. I seem to only find clear. Not diffused.
Brad don’t you use these as a rear chase lights when driving in dust?
Are you happy with the white lights for under the hood? Would you go with a diffused white or green with working at night?
So... probably over kill... but do you think these could be used as the ambers on the factory fenders? I wanna go to leds on those and want something good.
Any idea what the temp rating is on these? I know they are used under the hood a lot and that KC sells them as an underhood kit, but I'm curious how close we are pushing these to the limit. There is no info on their Web site.

I just bought the 6 light rock kit but not installed yet,couple questions, did u have to use the bus bar since u have an spod? I also use spod also did u flip the wire harness around and use passenger on driver side since it's now the shorter length with the spod? I've heard it helps to flip around the harness

Brad I love your videos and I actually went out and got the rock light kit you featured in this video. I ran into a issue that you seemed to overlook and didn’t address in your video. I too have an SPOD installed in the same place and when I went to wire everything up the passenger side wire loom is barely long enough to get battery and nowhere long enough to make it over to the SPOD but the Drivers side loom is way too long. So I am going to have to remove both and swap the looms so they can both reach the SPOD. I didn’t see that you had the same issue?
I actually cut a chunk of the wire off my loom. I didn't have to add any new wire for this setup. If it wasn't even long enough reach the battery, they may have shorted you.... I'd call KC.
Screws without a nut for the hood, how does it hold ?
I would have turned those light brackets 180 degrees. The way you installed them, you have occluded about a third of the light output with those frame brackets.
Why the can’t sell the lights with all the colour options? (That could me switchable to whatever desired )

Sorry, I didn't. I was in a hurry and chopped them up 2 days before I hit the Rubicon. Visit Rock Trooper, he has a great video on how to do the fenders.

Hey Brad, I'm assuming you didn't use that bus bar, are you just staking the two blacks and the two whites from the left and right side to one switch on the spod?
Correct, didn't used the bus bar and connected all wires direct to a single spod switch. When I add the lights to the front fenders I'll tie them into the same spod slot as well.

Just installed the wiring harness and lights. Now on to attaching them to the SPod. How did you wire them to the SPod since it was two different harnesses. Did you use two different switches?
I am assuming that he put positive to positive post on pod and negative to negative on a single switch section. :)

Why not wire a pin switch for the hood lights?
not having the hood insulator could lead to paint damage from engine heat. Here in Arizona its for sure
I live in AZ for couple years I know all about the heat there>. For some folks it may be the best option just to cut out holes for the lights.
the lights look great and under hood are awesome but that wire mess on top of your battery looks terrible it needs some work

I have an Spod, would I still use the bus bar or can I wire them straight to the Spod?
You can wire them directly to the sPod. Simply run the positive and negative lead to an open sPod connection.
@@mikehoffman3690 In this video it looked like he only hooked up one set of wires to the sPod. What about the passenger side wiring harness? How is that connected? Is that one spliced into the drivers side somehow? Thanks.

Are you still running the cooper stt pros? If so how many miles do they have? How are they holding up?

Hey man, I’m on the fence of getting a Nissan Titan or a jeep JKU. I have a Great Dane and I wouldn’t care to have her in the jeep but other than that I don’t really tow anything.

I used to own a Titan... great truck, but love my Jeep. You can go placed in a Jeep that that truck won't be able to take you. I've got a Springer Spaniel and he loved going on rides, but no room for a Great Dane for sure. Thanks!!
I know I’m years after this install, but really curious how these lights have held up? JKs are notoriously hot under the hood, wondering how those lights are doing now.
Lights are still going strong. I use them 75% of the time for ground camping lights, but work great when I'm on the trail at night.

Are you sure that (first) bracket isn't installed upside down. Seems to me that it could be tucked up more if you flipped it (if possible)
This was the correct mounting direction, the holes in the bracket are sized differently to only allow their respective bolts to pass through.
Maybe you misunderstand. To rephrase, the mount lamp side is lower to the ground than the frame mount side leaving a gap. If the mount were flipped over (not rotated horizontally 180) the light would use the same hardware but would tuck up closer to the underbody further protecting it from damage. At least thats what it looks like via camera and internet.
Brad, are you planning to get a dual battery kit in the future?

That be nice to have. My last JKU I had the sPOD, but somehow it managed to drain my voltage even the vehicle and switches are off. Not sure if it was from the sPOD, but I couldn't really think of anything else? Would like to see your vid the future if you decide to install dual battery kit isolator. Also I've ordered these KC Cylones and they will be arriving today. Can't wait to install them, will place mine similar as you had them under the hood.
Why didn’t you hook the hood lights to your spod
I could have, but I like the idea have having the switch right there at the ready when I open the hood and not have to hop in the Jeep to turn them on.
TrailRecon good call I thought that myself with spod, then realized it's more handy go have a switch in engine bay, also frees up a switch on spod for something else worthy of in-cabin switching
