So happy to see you enjoying this iconic segment of the JMT/PCT that you had to detour around last year. It's been wonderful to see it through the artful eye of your masterful videography. What's more, the SOBO perspective makes the trail seem so completely different than when viewed from a NOBO perspective. Fascinating!
Was glad to see you listen to your body and pull up short of Dusy Basin. As the renowned Sierra mountaineer Norman Clyde said:
“The mountain will always be there tomorrow. Aim to be able to say the same of yourself.”
    As always --
    Be safe; keep at it!

Sage wisdom somw Mr Clyde, thanks for sharing! Yes Evolution Crk / Basin and Muir Pass was really, really exceptional-- I am thrilled to have had the opportunity to explore these areas and they certainly did not disappoint!!

@@travelinbeat I made it to Le Conte in 7 days( with a nice unplanned trip to VVR). Then decided to exit due to weather coming in. Couldn't have asked for a better bail out hike going through Dusy Basin to Bishop. The light, with the clouds coming in, was ethereal. And It started snowing just as I got to the trailhead.
I met a wonderful Family on that hike; they took me to dinner in Bishop and then gave me a ride to Mammoth.... What an amazing trip! Can't wait to go back to finish from Bishop to Whitney.
Much respect for your documentation! I am going to restart this series (from Tuolomne), and will be looking forward to finishing this hike through your lense! One Love

Dang man that's pretty good time, especially at the start of a hike! I agree that the spur from LeConte to South Lake Trailhead is *AMAZING*. This year I caught the beautiful scenery with beautiful weather, but last year, some overnight storms gave us big clouds that the rising sun painted with brilliant gold and peach splendor. I tried my best to capture it with the lens, and if you're interested, you can check it out in those conditions at:

Evolution Basin might be my favorite place in the Sierra. Just surrounded by giants.

My hike was 16 days with no time off, so I can relate for the need for a shower and break! I really enjoyed the climb to Muir Pass as it was our most solitude for the hike regarding other hikers. That made it that much more magical. Looks like your experience may have been similar. -GoalTech

It looks so different not buried in snow, I think you through hiked this section in a heavy snow year. Normally this area melts out in June but during the heaviest snow years it might not melt out until late July/early August.

    • @travelinbeat
      @travelinbeat  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

Oh man EVERY section on the High Sierra was in heavy snow last year 😳 😫 😆 But yes, this section specifically was no exception. Check out the video from that day at th-cam.com/video/hab9av0VPTw/w-d-xo.html

Beat , I enjoy your videos and the accuracy of the details u share with us. Please check the name of the structure, John Muir Hut or John Muir Cabin, located on Muir Pass on JMT.
I found the following on the net: John Muir Hut built in early 1930s (i believe) on PCT/John Muir Trail vs John Muir Cabin built in 1980 in Tongass National Forest Near Juneau, Alaska .

Nice catch, sir!! The location visited in this video is indeed, Muir Hut! I appreciate the correction and the observation that I do strive for accuracy in my videos!

@@travelinbeat how is your health post hike? The spitting up blood that u mentioned in Day 19 video (leaving Bishop) is definitely concerning…. I guess i will have to watch the rest of your hike vids to learn more.
I hope to get up to NoVa to meet u & pick your brain on videoing techniques as well as a list if the electronics u use for backup , transfer, editing of your vids..
Finally, i am rehabbing my knee now but i do wish i could sit down to ralk with u about the CDT. I have hiked AT96, PCT01 & hope to the do CT as well as all of the Collegiates, maybe a “yoyo” in 2025.
Thx for reading my comment & responding…

@fannypack96 Hey there! Thanks for your concern, Im happy to report that my health rebounded quickly once I left the dust and smoke of the late-season west! The blood was attributed to postnasal drip laced with blood from irritated sinuses. It too has abated.
Regarding a meet-up, I'd be thrilled to oblige! I'm always eager and honored to be able to offer any / all help I can to folks! If I remember correctly you're near Richmond? I'm happy to block out time for a meal or beers or whatever, hit me up on IG for easier dialogue!

Great memories of pizza with the ranger Bob Kenan at LeConte station in 1980 when I hiked the JMT. Got cool pic of a horizontal rainbow over evolution basin that summer that I had in my office for years.Take a break... what's the rush?

Amazing views Beat. What kind of rocks are these? Sedimentary? Where you bunk is always so beautiful.

Aww, thanks!! Regardingthe rocks I'm really not sure-- these hikes have included some heavy atonement for my youthful derision of geology as nerdy and boring, as I now find myself constantly wishing I had pursued some education on the subject!
