    I just realized zuko is doing for katara and the others what iroh did for him in the beginning. He supported them to go out and complete their personal mission, he helped but followed their lead as they made their own choices. He's patient and wise, two things he had to pick up from iroh

    fun fact: before tai lee and mai's betrayal, Azula had a particularly fighting style, striking fire blast with her fingers, symbolizing her perfectionist personality giving more weight to precision. In this episode you can see she does fire bending with her fist, symbolizing she lost that part of her

    Katara having trouble dealing with her anger is a constant thing that I never really thought about until now.

    In her mind, Katara had built up Yon Rha as some kind of epic monster, he symbol of every wrong the Fire Nation had done. When she finally tracked him down, she found a pathetic worm that was completely beneath her. She knew his death would bring her no satisfaction. Ironically, letting him live was a far greater punishment. Yon Rha would live out the rest of his days as a pathetic, broken worm of a man, barely even a shadow of his former self.

      Showing that a monster like him can easily lead a double life despite his crimes (like many people did in the past and even criminals do today) would have been pretty grim for a kid’s show so definitely better that they didn’t choose to go for extremely harsh reality here…

    13:00 Also there is a theory going around that the water bender they were hunting wasn’t Katara, but it was Hama. Because up to that point, they had orders to capture, not kill. Yet after Hama escaped with blood bending, they had orders to kill her.

    • @DarkShadow-hy6iq
      @DarkShadow-hy6iq 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That theory is dumb. They we'r obviously looking for Katara. She literally outright says it in this episode. Plus Hama wouldn't have gone back to the water tribe after escaping, she would've gone straight to the fire nation.

    • @Kyzen_Wrell
      @Kyzen_Wrell 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DarkShadow-hy6iq You’re using what happened as proof, not logic. Katara says she was the one they hunted because she likely doesn’t know they weren’t after her *specifically*. Just that they were after the last Southern Water Tribe bender. The Fire Nation also couldn’t have predicted Hama didn’t return home to instead remain in the homeland. Hence their assumption of being one left. Plus, why would their orders be to specifically kill a little kid with no experience or skill? When their previous orders were to capture them?
      Hama escaped only to remain in the Fire Nation and cause damage while they hunted her down back in her home tribe.

    • @DarkShadow-hy6iq
      @DarkShadow-hy6iq 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Kyzen_Wrell Hama escape decades prior to the raid in the tribe. I highly doubt the fire nation would care about her at that point after so much time has passed. Also, why would they need training to kill a little kid? It's not like they actually knew who the waterbender was. Form their point, it could've been anyone. I just know they weren't looking for a lady that escaped them like 40-50 years ago.

    • @Kyzen_Wrell
      @Kyzen_Wrell 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DarkShadow-hy6iq How many decades exactly? Also Katara’s village wasn’t the only one in the Southern tribe. It’s just as guaranteed they systematically hit each one over the years till they found the last one. “It’s not as if they knew who the water bender was.” To their knowledge it was a master for the bender to escape prison. How else do you plan something like that? They never said Hama escaped immediately and she said it took time to develop the skill. So it definitely wasn’t a short stay.
      As for the source- who informed the captain? Who was the source? Why was it specifically only one and with no description? You don’t send them on a wild goose chase without something to go off of. Hama is the only piece of the puzzle that fits.

    • @DarkShadow-hy6iq
      @DarkShadow-hy6iq 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Kyzen_Wrell it's definitely not Hama. Hama looks like a young woman when she escaped the prison, and we know Hama was the same age as Gran Gran. Katara looks around 8 during the raid, the timing doesn't match. That means Hama escaped at least 50-60 years before the tribe was raided. As for how they knew there was a waterbender there, it's confirmed by the writers that Hakoda went around The Earth Kingdom looking for trainers for Katara, and the Fire Nation just so happened to hear about these rumours.

Just because you think you have a good excuse and the other person "deserved" it? This is literally the same excuse every sch00l sh00ter uses.

    Avatar Extras
    The Southern Raiders
    Since Zuko embraced his destiny, his firebending has become more powerful.
    3:24 Katara repays Zuko for saving her earlier. Now they are even.
    Katara's mom died when Katara was only eight years old. This episode is the first time that Katara and Sokka's mom is first shown in the series. And the last time that Katara saw her.
    The Southern Raiders are an elite Fire Nation group and their ships are designed for attacking coastal villages.
    10:18 The fact that Katara would willingly use bloodbending on another individual (even though she herself said that she would never) displays all of the anger and grief that she had suppressed over the years since her mother’s death. And with a great performance from Mae Whitman too.
    12:27 - 13:00 There is a theory (amongst fans) that the reason that they didn’t take Katara’s mom as a prisoner was because after Hama escaped they decided to just kill new southern water tribe benders in case they also could bloodbend.

There was no reason the Fire Nation would know anything about Katara, being so young, and Hama said she had escaped the Fire Nation, so it's possible they went to her tribe to see if she fled there. In a way, Hama is the reason Sokka and Katara's mom died

    i would say Azula has other motivators for her firebending. She is completely devoted to her father, and by extension her nation and the drivel they've been feeding her since childhood. This is the case for most Firebending military I imagine, like Zhao. However, rage is a part of it, but it's a rage tied to underlying goals. Like anyone, what is their anger tied to? Whatever they care about....and that thing can trigger rage like any other emotion. The anger can get out of hand or be controlled. For Zuko, he had a lot of anger and emotion towards his goal, but he had a motivating goal and that's the important thing. All that anger just went with it. When he shifts gears, he loses perspective on how deep his mission goes. It takes him a bit, and some grander insight into Firebending and the world helps too. He has a clear head, a powerful motivator so he begins to close the gap between himself and Azula. Azula is now in Zuko's position...on the verge of losing everything, her worldview. She has her father to please and a mission she keeps losing, so her motivation is still strong, but its desperate. She still has the advantage of her perfectionism and hard work and extreme focus, the things that lend her that blue fire and sharpened technique, but she's becoming more feral with it all.

    There's a theory that the reason Yan Ra believed that Katara's mom was the water bender is that the one he was looking for was Hama. The idea was that she was believed to have escaped and gone back to the Southern Water Tribe, and since she had demonstrated the ability to blood bend, they wouldn't have given her a chance to escape again.

    From what most fans say Yon Rah killing Katara’s mom was a direct result of what Hama did. The knowledge a waterbender from their south tribe was so dangerous that even the rumor of one waterbender left they killed instead of captured would have drastically altered the plot of this episode. Also the Sokka thing they’re kids fighting a war not sure if they will live to see tomorrow so you gotta enjoy what you can. In the end it was about Katara getting to the root of her survivor guilt her mother died for her and for so long she has held on to that pain by forgiving herself she started to forgive Zuko.

    Someone mentioned that Zuko did for Katara what Iroh did for him, but I kind of disagree, and personally, I thought this was kind of a bad episode for Zuko.
    When Iroh was going along with what Zuko wanted he at least lightly tried to redirect him, but Zuko just agreed with Katara's revenge. To the point where while Aang was trying to get her to reconsider, Zuko actually mocked him.
    A few episodes ago, Zuko learned that his Firebending should not come from a place of anger and revenge, yet here, he basically encouraged Katara to take her revenge.
    I understand that Katara needed to face that man, and I even think that Zuko was trying to do the right thing
    But, I think he needed so much for Katara to accept him, that he slipped a bit here.
    He encoraged and enabled her, I just don't see how you can say you care about someone in any copacity of you enable them to fall that far.

    What I like about this episode is that Zuko is going to great lengths to mend his relationship with Katara, but he's also straight up being a toxic influence on her in this adventure. She starts BLOODBENDING in front of him and he barely bats an eye. He's so "in her corner" and supporting her so unconditionally as his friend that he's pushing her towards something she would regret. Despite Zuko's development, he's not a perfect hero. He genuinely thinks he's doing the right thing here, and Katara, the MORE emotionally compromised of the two, is the one to realize that what they're doing is wrong.

    Lol, one thing that always bothered me unnecessarily:
    Sokka: "the flag had sea ravens"
    Zuko: "Gasp! The southern raiders! Who could have ever guessed that the battalion specifically tasked with raiding the southern water tribe were the ones who raided the southern water tribe and killed your mom?!"

    • @Kyzen_Wrell

      Because Zuko raided the water tribe too. Plus, Zuko must have had suspicions but needed confirmation

    I love almost every character in this show except for Katara
    She has such a childish attitude, it's hard to relate to her.

    • @Animelon
      @Animelon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I mean, she does sometimes as do a lot of the characters. All the characters make mistakes, even childish but grow as characters as they learn from it. I would say Katara most of the time is very supportive and motherly and keeps the team together when times are rough. But I lowkey also kinda find her boring so she’s not my favorite either lol
