Why did He have to die? He is god... couldn't He have just forgave us without the dying thing? And if we are forgiven why do we need to ask for forgiveness too?

      These are great questions!
      - When sin entered our world through Adam and Eve, it affected everything and everyone (Romans 8:20-22). The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23). Every person is born into our world was born as a sinner, and thus into death (Romans 5:12). Sin can only be dealt with through the shedding of blood (Hebrews 9:22). For sin to be properly dealt with, it would take the sacrifice of one who is not a sinner, and that is eternal. The only one that fits that description is God Himself. When Jesus asked the Father in Matthew 26:42, “if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.” Jesus, the Son of God, would have to enter our natural world by becoming a man, being born of a virgin, so as to not become a sinner by birth through the seed of man. He would have to live a perfect life of no sin (1 Peter 2:22 says that Jesus never sinned on earth), which He did. And then He would have to die the perfect death, shedding His blood by willingly laying down His life as the Lamb of God, sent to take away the sins of the world (John 1:29). He would then need to go into the grave, and prove He had power of death by resurrecting the third day, just as He said He would do (1 Corinthians 15). This is known as the Gospel, or good news of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).
Why do we have to ask for forgiveness?
      - We are not told in the Bible to ask God for forgiveness to be forgiven.
      - Jesus told us to, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.” (Mark 1:15)
God determined the plan of salvation for us.
      - First, we must recognize our sinful condition.
      - Second, we must see the work of Christ (the gospel) as sufficient to pay for our sin.
      - Third, we must be willing to turn from any other attempt to justify ourselves apart from Christ, and be willing for Christ to save us from our sin.
      - At the point, we must just simply call upon Christ in repentance and faith, asking Him to save us.
      - Romans 10:9-10,13 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
Thank you for the comment, I hope this helps.
