Great vid! Saw these were on sale for $269 on amazon then I watched this and made it a very easy decision. I'm hoping the moondrop dawn pro will be good enough for these.
great review. Interesting to see sa-1 performing well with the xs because I haven’t really heard great things about the amp. I think I will prob go with iha6 for my xs
I don’t like sa-1 on any headphone except when modded and with XS only. It’s really just slightly worse than iha-6 for XS, the bass is slightly rolled off on sa-1
You are the first reviewer I've ever heard or read call the Edition XS to be "thin," which were my EXACT impressions when I compared my Edition XS to my LCD-X 2021. The Edition XS is a terrific headphone for $500, but they're not giant killers of kilobuck cans. Well done!
@@nyvoreviews5443 if you ever get to test it, would love to hear if the stealth version fixed the weak points you mentioned on the original and how it stacks up against the XS.
Hey! Great review. I just bought a pair of XS, and am driving them atm with the onboard amp of my motherboard (AMP-UP Audio with ALC1220-VB and WIMA Capacitors for Rear 120dB SNR). I think the volume I can get with it is fine, I keep at 90%, more and it's uncomfortable for me for longer periods of time. Would you recommend getting a cheap amp like a magni/atom/L30? Im curious if it would make a difference in the sound/base etc. Thanks!
There are so many motherboards that I haven’t tried so I won’t know for sure for each model, but every motherboard I’ve tried seems to have a bit of electrical background noise because the GPU is kinda on the same circuit. Using an external dac and amp can bring that down to much lower levels , which can help improve dynamic range). Just because you can get the volume to listening levels does not necessarily mean you are properly powering the headphone either, better amps can also improve dynamic range. An Apple dongle+magni is very likely to improve the sound, But even magni is not enough to see the full capability of the headphone, as you can kinda see on the amp shoutout at the 2nd half of the video. I would recommend trying at least a magni though, but if you have more money to play around with, checkout some of the other options in this video.
Very interesting. Is it possible to have a quick comment regarding this headphone and the dt-1990 pro. Would say hifiman is a better choise? Already having the rme-adi 2. Edit: Saw your video of different Beyerdynamic and I think I got the answer there :-) So, for a value and sound perspective, would you say XS is a good match with RME, and what would you also recommend with RME, for music listening :-) Thanks!
I guess i coulda went to the discord, but i wanna ask about cable recs, should i care about either the input cable from the amp to the dongle and the cable that comes with the edxs? Ordering soon, i guess i also wanna ask if you have experience buying off aliexpress. A store there has the edxs going for ~$370 shipped. A ton of shops offering below $500 though.
For this chain you don’t need to worry much about the cable. I probably used a fairly cheap one myself. There is only a few times where you will actually need to worry about cables in audio gear and this is not one of those times.
Hey I am still curious about HD 600 headphones. I went straight from HD 560S and DT 770 pro to the XS myself. Kind of skipped the HD 6x0 lineup... do you think there is a reason for me to take a look backwards or just stick with XS? Overall I think the sound is great, it's the best I've heard. I realize diminishing returns are kicking in probably after the 560S even ... the $500 price tag is high but I am willing to pay and stick with XS if their is a notable all around upgrade from HD 600. What do you think?
Hd600 is worse overall compared to XS, but some people might like how hd600’s mids sound more full. I wouldn’t buy hd600 if I already had XS, but I would consider a hd650 black silk with bottlehead crack. (Not hd650 silver).
@@nyvoreviews5443 Thank yoU! Only thing concerning me now is the fit of the XS. It is like wearing a pear of sweatpants the way they fit so loosely lmao. The sennheiser fit is "perfect" for me.

Not a lot for valhalla, no. I uograded to all gold lion on wa7tp and tube rolled with ta20 and with uhm. Dark voice (a lot of different tubes for this one) . Most of the changes are relatively minor. It basically sounds more clear with better tubes. I think you need a higher end tube amp for it to make a really big difference.
Good review, thank you; I'm tired of salesmen/reviewers trying to sell me headphones at used car prices! 😅😅

Great video, looking forward to the headphone review!
Great comparisons as always! To clarify, was the ananda in this comparison the stealth version. If not, how would that one fare against the XS?

Thanks for such a detailed review. Any recommendations for an amp to pair with the Zen Dac v2 to drive the Edition XS?
@@namanshree32 it’s basically the same as this video. The dac you are using won’t change it that much for this headphone.

Anything portable or you can recommend. I saw onix a1 alpha had really good reviews. Was considering qudelix before seeing your review.
Btr7 with a balanced cable in turbo mode unlocked in the app would work

Glad to hear it, did you do the sa-1 mod? It’s fairly simple, but *possibly dangerous.*. It improves bass and treble

Would you say this is overkill just for gaming?
For me personally. It’s under kill. But I’m a pro/semi-pro gamer that actually cares about audio.
