This video is not thorough, it is misleading. Do not take off or loosen alternator. Do not touch your A/C pump. Do not take your upper cover or MAF. Do not take off your pulley housing. Only parts to remove to get the water pump out and back on are your Fan (4 bolts), Shroud (2 bolts), 3 tensioner pulleys (1 bolt each)and upper inlet housing (5 bolts). It is way easier than this video makes it out to be. If the video was thorough, it would explain that all the other steps are for replacing other parts and are not required.

Hey all. Just wanted to add. U donf need to relieve the a/c bracket for just the water pump. U can remove the tensioner pulley but... don't forget. The tensioner is a reverse thread. So right loosens left to tighten 🤘 thanks for the video

Very instructive video. However... I was going to replace the water pump myself, but this looks like an absolute PIA nightmare.

Do yourself a favor, when trying to get that upper A/C bolt that is at the back of the compressor. Just remove the alternator. It is a couple of 10mm bolts to hold a couple of brackets on and a 14mm bolt at the upper alternator bolt. It makes the AC compressor bolts a lot more accessible.

Thanks for the detailed video, perfect timings as I had to replace mine this past weekend! Helped immensely! Lucky I was able to skip removing the tensor pulley assembly, although I’ve done it before so I feel your pain.

This should be titled water pump and belt tensioner. I believe the water pump can come off without having to touch the a/c compressor

After watching the video and taking notes, I was really dreading this job. After taking a few things out of the way, I figured out that the alternator, a/c compressor and tensioner bracket could stay on. You just need to remove the tensioner pulley to remove the bolt on that side of the water pump. Also the coolant recovery bottle can stay bolted to the fan shroud and be pulled with the shroud.

I'm replacing all of my pulleys and tensioner so I figured I'd do the water pump at the same time. The belt tensioner is a nightmare! I had wiring looms in the way that weren't in the video and it took many extensions, wobblies, and swivels to get it done. But I got it done.

Good video however if you use a 14 socket with an extension you can move the tension pulley out of the way to remove the bolt behind it on the water pump . No need to remove the compressor or alternator 👍🏽

Agreed with the other comment. You do not have to do all that. For a 2011 though you have to take off your power steering pump, super easy but be careful because it's mounted to your timing cover

Very detailed video mate, I am going to start the job on my 2015 TDV8 Landcruiser and could not find any videos. This was very helpful.
Just a question why is that car so badly rusted, is it worth doing that Job on that car?

Thanks. This video is awesome. I currently have my Tacoma 4.0 tore apart replacing valve cover gaskets, water pump, and thermostat. I took my AC compressor, lines, and condenser off the truck. The more I work on this truck the more I want a 1969 C10 with a straight 6. Thanks again for the video

If you want to fix the long bolt between the water pump and the fan do tighten before fixing the water pump in the car

  • @tunnelcat

I have one comment. Do NOT use a metal razor blade or metal scraper to remove old gasket material or sealer from any aluminum engine sealing surface, EVER. Use either a plastic scraper or plastic razor blade (yes, they make them). Cutting up the sealing surface will ruin the sealing properties of the surface and ruin your day.
