currently have a ktm 1290 as well so got excited :) i bought a 350 ypvs F2 that im currently fixing up. experiencing an overheating issue (temp is raising high), so next step is to check the thermo...
I am sure you know what to check, but in case start with stone cold engine, take radiator cap off and check level. Start bike up with cap still off. Watch for water level to drop when thermo opens. Sometimes that shows a big drop in water levels also if you see bubbles that indicates head or base gaskets leaking and pressurising the system. If you dont see water level drop in the radiator neck then check thermo is opening by dropping it into boiling water and check gap is open. Don't be tempted to leave it out, you can get cold seizures.
@@powervalvepetesgarage appreciate the response. i checked it, i did remove thermo as well to see, and i placed it back in, in all cases, temp guage it a little past the 3/4 mark. ill check that pump see if somehing is off... i know the shop did a compression test but i guess ill have to look at that next.....
Just a quick comment my friend would you not have found it far easier to wash the bike down then air dry with a compressor if you have one judging by your Garage you probably have one then so good old WD40 then start your strip down would of been far easier if you ask me but like I said just some friendly advice advice that's all
Hi there, as I am going to strip it right down to basics anyway, I thought I would first see if it starts, then I know at least its working. Youll see in the later videos it turns into a nut and bolt rebuild. But thanks for the advice. Take care!
@powervalvepetesgarage I thought something was off as you clearly know Yr way around a bike and yes be great to see the full re build video right down to every nut and bolt. Mate ive had my frame powdercoated do i need to remove the paint from where the coil mounts to earth it i ive got the black earth wire that comes out of the loom grounded ive just got no spark 😩
Often powder coating is so good that it does not earth the component to the frame, so before you go scrapping too much off, do a simple continuity test. Between the top of the bolt that holds the coils on, to somewhere else on the frame like the steering head. Likewise all the electrical parts that have a ground will need to be tested. I think the negative battery terminal bolts to the engine, so the engine needs to be earthed to the frame.
I hope not. I've had the numbers checked by police and it's not coming up as stolen. It was also registered to the last owner. When I handed the plates in.
