- I’ll give you my tips and tricks for how I match up the print on my shirts.
Both down the front button line, and on the pocket.
I’m using a modified version of McCall’s M6932, but any pattern that doesn’t have a separate button placket piece, this method should work.
Can you PLEASE make more tutorials on making custom shirts
Your button technique is brilliant!! Thanks for taking the time and presenting all the info in such a clear and concise manner.
That was brilliant! Super clear, a born teacher!
Yes, please do a sewing tutorial of your shirt. I have a terrible time with attaching the collars and front placate. I've made 4 shirts for my husband that are very similar to your pattern. I struggle every time with those two items. Thank you for showing this video - I now want to try using my rotary cutter instead of the scissors.
This was awesome! Not only the pattern matching which was so neat, but this is the first button sewing that actually clicked in my brain. Can't wait to see what other amazingness you will share.
Yes!! Show your construction tips and trips and your sewing machines, gadgets ❤ Love your quilting videos!!
What an amazing video, yes to a full tutorial.
Love how the crafty farbic guys are from Portland, knew a wonderful quilter from your part of the world.
You are a star for creating this video. Thanks to your clear instructions, my garment turned out fab!
Very awesome! Brought back memories of my sewing days. I enjoy watching your videos! God has blessed you with a wonderful artistic gift. Hugs and Blessings
We DEFINITELY want to see your bloopers and your successes. That makes you one of us. Love your quilt series. Can we do that again using a different set of patterns?
I would love to see a shirt construction video.
Well you’re in luck! I posted a full video of the start to finish here: th-cam.com/video/uDokhKTS57A/w-d-xo.html
So helpful with placement of buttonholes and buttons. Thank you. I came for the pattern matching, but I learned more than I even hoped for.
❤❤ love the button tutorial!!! We need more!!
This is AMAZING!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!

I'm so excited that you're posting sewing videos! Can't wait to see what kind of crafty magic you get up to.
Yes! Love the shirts! Just binged all your FB Reels. Lol 😂 So now I'm here!!! Love your content.
You make it look so easy. Love the fabric.
My mother had that same button hole maker, I remember getting it out of the box and smelling sewing machine oil! What a kick!
Thanks for the great video, very easy to understand as you explain every step very well. Your finished shirt looks amazing, I realise I need one of those washable pens!!
I love that you showed how to do the button holer I have one but no idea how to use it
Great job and thank you for sharing, bty love your sewing machine, attachments, and all of your vids.
Thank you for showing us the way you sew on buttons! Game changer!
This was so, so helpful! Thank you!!
Thank you for this, I’ve learned so much from your techniques!
Not a garment sewer, except for when kids were little (book week) but great tips. I used newspaper for own basic bodice patterns, and children standing on coffee table for the rest. Be better skills for grandies I hope. Very impressed with your skills...tfs,hugs, Chel 🌸
Awesome. Many patterns will have your alignment line labeled Center Front.
Love this, Chris! Thank you!
I would love to see a full tutorial!!

This was a fantastic video! I would love a construction focused video, I would also love to hear how you pick fabric. I am assuming you are using quilting cotton, but I know they aren't all created equal. Are there specific brands you like best for shirt making?
I do use primarily quilting cotton, since I’m primarily a quilter. I’ve found Dear Stella and Free Spirit Fabrics work well, I also just made one from Art Galley Fabrics that I like better as apparel than a quilt.
I totally want to see a more detailed tutorial!

@@rosecityoriginals awesome! Thank you for the link ! I'm gonna be so pretty with my 36 new shirts
Very thorough video. I have a question. While pattern matching, how do you make sure every pattern piece is keeping up with the grainline?
With this style of shirt (very casual) I don’t stress too much about it. For the most part I keep everything on grain according to the pattern, as long as long as the print works in that direction.
If I’m running short on fabric I might rotate a piece that won’t be seen (the facing, under collar, inside yolk)
Thank you so much, this is such a helpful video! And I love how you attach buttons, it tickles the anal retentive part of my brain. I'll try it the next time I make a button-up shirt!
This was really helpful. Thank you. Ive always been frightened to sew with bigger prints, but this was really helpful. I'm assuming that once you line up the centres on both front and back that it would be virtually impossible to match up the side seams, and even the sleeves. Is that right?
It would depend on the print, but I only focus on the center front and the pocket personally
@@rosecityoriginals Thank you for your honest reply. Centre front and pocket is good enough for me. 😉 Thanks ever so much. It doesn't seem do daunting now.
This was such a clear video, Chris, I think I could try it. Do you pattern match only the pocket and the placard area? Or also the side seams? Thanks so much for this tutorial!
Just the front and pockets. I’d probably go insane trying to match every seam
I love the flamingo fabric! Do you remember where you bought it?
That is by Tula Pink from her Daydreamer line. It came out a few years ago so some shops might still have it, but it’s probably hard to find now.
Which is your favorite machine with buttonholer gadget?
I really like the old-school buttonholer attachments you can find in thrift stores, it a got a fancy new electronic buttonholer for my Juki and have really been liking it.
Just curious as to how much extra fabric do you allow for in order to pattern match?
It really depends on the print. I’ve had silver that didn’t require any extra, and some that needed a lot. I generally order an extra 1/4 yard and hope for the best
Where do you get your fabric?
I just it all over the place, if I see a print I like I’ll get it!
where is the fabric purchased from?
I bought it from an online quilt shop that was going out of business.
But the fabric is made by Free Spirit Fabrics and the print is called “Gruesome Games”
