i had a similar discussion lately with an athletic trainer friend of mine: when you're young you got the body and the energy, but you don't know shit, as you get older and you stick with it, not only your technique gets better, but you also understand the mechanics and your own body better. Keep doing what you do Dan, it's great
We called them lightning bugs in TN.
Dan is my favorite skater because he's so original.
In Texas I've heard them called fireflies and lightning bugs, I've also heard them called RolleyPollies and Pill Bugs, I've used all the terms at different times.
It's also common to call all soda "coke."
Like "Hey pick up some cokes.."
-"sure, what kind?"
"Ah, get a six of DP and some BigRed.."
Also Tea is sweet unless you stipulate Unsweet when you order..

I couldn't agree more. I barely skated between ages 18-32 but I am the best I have ever been now after a year of consistency and understanding physics as an adult. Even only skating 1-2 times a month lol Thanks for the videos, appreciate the motivation!

Hi Dan! You need to go to Vancouver and hang with the Ben. Agree with being older and understanding tricks better. First summer really back on the board and I am amazed how quickly I am getting bad old stuff and new things.

Completely agree. I learned bs flip in my head and then got on my board and did it. I think it’s all about either learning yourself or having someone like skateIQ elaborate tricks in a way that you understand more when you’re young.

Hard agree about the impact understanding physics has on learning when you get older. Came back to skating after a 20 year hiatus and I’ve learned more tricks in 6 weeks than I could ever land after 8 years skating in the late 90s/early 00s, and I put it down to analytical thinking vs. Just trying over and over and over again.

I'm from Cali but I lived in Georgia for 3 years back in the 90s and they were locally called lightening bugs
Lightning bugs. All sweet, carbonated beverages are cokes. Want a Sprite, ask for a Coke and the lady will ask “what kind?” Yep, rolly polis. The only Canadian term I’ve really adopted is that they call geese, “Cobra Chickens” and I’m on board with that.

We call them lightning bugs in Wisconsin. Some ppl say fire fly too, but less common I'd say.
Grew up in Cincinnati and we called them Lightning Bugs & Rollie Pollies. Also called it Pop. Out in San Diego I say soda now after a year of being made fun of in 2007. They also say Fireflies here. Weird people these San Diegans haha
I've been skating for 42 years and still learning.
Dude I love it hyped up like a kid. I feel technically better at 40 than ever. I mean not as apt to try and lipslide the down rail or jump the 5 block or whatever. But I do alot of goof tricks anymore and don't care about the stigma like a youngster might so its opened up a wider lane to expand my abilities. Also I'm just more analytical and purposeful with my approach. I think about it rather than just skating off feel kinda like you said. But I gotta say feels like the body has dropped off some in just the last 3 years which is a bit of a bummer.
I love shrimptown, I hit up that park whenever I go back to visit Maryland

I’m from California and we call them fireflies, also I’ve moved to England and they call them fireflies here too. Also we call them rolly pollies but in England they’re called woodlouses!
