Yes, she does have that natural inclination to improvise, and does it to some extent in almost everything she sings. But, I'm sure she wouldna want to be pigeonholed as just a just a jazz singer. She can sing all the way across the popular music spectrum - Jazz, Original Rock, Classic Rock, Pop, Blues, Country, ballads. Tremendously versatile, and I've just two days ago had the huge pleasure of seeing her live in Glasgow, and really appreciating that.
I didn't think it was a bad compliment to give her when she's singing a pop song that she's turned into a jazz classic!

Aye, you're right enough. In that sense it's a definite compliment, a recognition of a skill she has that many other good singers don't have.
I suppose what I was emphasising is that she sings such diverse material that no particular label applies to her. (It's something that Randy Jackson couldn't get his head around on AI.) There is always that underlying improvisation going on, in varying degrees but always there whatever genre the song might fit into. It's one of the things that makes me want to listen to different performances of the same songs because there are always some differences.

While it is true that Haley does a terrific rendition of this tune, personally I wouldn’t place it in jazz. I would place it in blues. She is using the lovely growls that lean toward the grittier style. I have heard her scat and sing jazz elsewhere on TH-cam. What a talent she possesses!
That little chest flex at 2:33 when hitting that section kills me. Her live performance are always amazing!
She is so talented.She can do anything with that voice. There are many women singers who are huge pop stars that cannot compete with Haley's voice,or presence for that matter.

I saw her in Glasgow 2 nights ago, the first time for me. She looked really great, slim and full of vitality on stage with that cheeky grin she has. She's confident without any arrogance, and it's so obvious that she just loves being up there singing. As with great performers, there was that 2 way dynamic going on between the crowd and herself. Great to be there and experience it. She was better even than I'd hoped.

Whatever she is doing in this newest album coming out this May, she ought to continue with the glammed up look. It doesn't matter if its Retro Rock, modern Rock, Pop Rock, Pop, Indy Pop, Blues, Soul, R & B, Jazz, Funk, or whatever, that glammed up look along with those flamboyant performances seems to get the most positive reactions.

I know what you mean. Those outfits are not just sexy but classy with it. However, they're particularly effective and appropriate because of the PMJ arrangements of these songs, giving them a retro sound that thon style of fancy gowns matches so well. They might appear a bit incongruous and out of place with other songs and arrangements that didn't have that period flavour.
I want all of her PMJ and similar stuff on Vinyl... I want to place that sacred round disc of goodness into my custom rebuilt console hi-fi, and I just want to open all of the windows on a nice breezy evening with a cup of coffee, sit back on the chair, and listen. Just close my eyes in the fresh air and breeze... and listen. I can just imagine the joy man. Shit.

She has been recording with Concord Records, although it's not clear that they will be her label. She has a 3rd album recorded and it should be released this summer. Not PMJ type stuff -- theme is the 60s rock. Includes a number of covers and apparently some original songs too. There are videos posted from the small European tour she just completed. Search her name with song titles to listen. Try The Letter, Baby it's you, White Rabbit, and For what it's worth.

She knows them both but, "cut from the same cloth" and "tea" are figurative in her sound you can hear it. It's actually Steven who introduced her to his lawyer, who protects her very well. It's Robert and Jimmy who wanted her to sing a song of theirs years ago, a rarity.
