Most times horses are never given the chance to figure this out so they never learn to settle. At a clinic once, we turned all our horses loose in the arena. The clinicians goal was to let the horses find the middle of arena to rest; the others got to run around the outside, till they got smart and learned to settle in the middle.

He was very hard to saddle that's why he was brought there. He had no foundation, that's why. Too bad the owners weren't there to learn.
But I learned from Pat that most horses who are cinchy/hard to saddle are bad about pulling back.
