- Kira the Husky has surgery! My husky has surgery to get fixed otherwise known as being spayed, and also has a Gastropexy, and some of you are asking why. This video is here to explain a bit of that! Why did we get our dogs spayed? And Why did we do a Gastropexy on our dog? Well, let's talk about that in today's video!

Thank you so much for talking briefly about the possible dangers that come with early spay/neuter! Not too many know that spaying before 1-2 years old can cause health issues down the line!
There are dangers both ways, which is why people should always do their own research. There are risks doing it early, and there are risks doing it later. You have to weigh those risks on your own, and decide what is best for your dog and your situation.
@@GoneToTheSnowDogs oh definitely! It was just nice to see a "big name" bring light to the possible dangers. Very important for everyone to definitely do their own research as well 🤗
@@silvermoon9762 I think that's the biggest thing that people need to do. I promote the same thing when it comes to adding a dog to your household. Pure Breed, Rescued, Puppy, Adult, Senior, not every dog fits every lifestyle. I feel like if more people did research on these things, we would end up with happier dogs and less homeless ones! :)
@Natalie Wainwright I'm sure Jess will gladly talk about risks on early spay as well as late spay in a future video.

Im actually sooooo happy to see this video! I have a 5 month old Alaskan Malamute named Winnie. I'm doing the EXACT same surgeries for her. I already discussed this with my vet and have everything ready for my baby so now I'm getting the things you recommended. I love your videos by the way! That was really interesting. It’s good that you can share your girls’ experiences (good and bad) with the Pawdience. Kira and Memphis are loved and we really enjoy hearing about their trials and tribulations. I hope Kira is feeling better again soon and is back to her own self. I'm glad you actually waited. Neutering too early is far too common, especially in America. I'm sticking with males because you don't have to neuter them unless they get testicular issues which is a far slimmer chance than cancer and joint issues.
My vet said they'd give my dog his chip when he got neutered at 6 months(yikes) but I got it done with his vaccinations because its the law here to chip your.dog before 12 weeks and it wasn't bad at all. Thankfully I have talked to my vet about the Neutering studies and they now know that Neutering is a last resort for me. Most of those bad intact male behaviours are also done by untrained neutered dogs, its about training.
This donut looks much better and more comfortable than the ordinary plastic-loops you get from the vet-doc. From Kira to Kira and the band congratulations💐 too for your success at the channel 🐺🍩🐺.

Never thought that a dog - like onesie could help the dogs post-surgery other than for people like placing their dogs in costumes. Good idea to keep in mind for the future.

My mom got a Great Dane puppy in March. She signed at contract with the breeder not get him fixed til he is 2. Bloat is very common in Great Danes. My mom is considering getting gastropexy.
If it was me, I would do it. I grew up with Saint Bernard's, and we had two that bloated. Good friends of ours have always had Danes and they had it happen to one of theirs and have done the surgery ever since. I think you should consider it.
@@GoneToTheSnowDogs I will, my mom has Great Danes for years and luckily it hasn't happen to any of her Danes but her puppy that she has is so sensitive. We don't want something happen to him

My family's dog, Pituca was spayed when she was much much older, I think she was maybe 9-10 at that time. That was because my Mom had heard once that it increased the chances of cancer, we knew that wasn't true but the real owner of the dog was her so we didn't have much a say about it, till Pituca got ill and it resulted in the surgery. While in recovery my brother took vacations to be able to care for her, so she wouldn't lick her stitches or anything, she had really bad nights, restless, wouldn't sleep, so she kept waking him up over and over and over again. One afternoon my brother fell asleep without realizing and woke up at the raised voice of surprise from my Mom. Pituca had climbed 2 set of stairs in less than 2-3min... AAAAANNNDD popped some stitches. >M> bad dog

No, not unless for some reason she has to have any major surgery and we could do it at that time. We didn't know as much about it when I got Memphis fixed, so I didn't even know it was an option. A Gastropexy is not a surgery that I would want to do as it's own thing. If you can do it when your dog gets fixed, I think that's a good time to have it done.
