I went from Sherwood colliery in 1992 after filling the shafts, to Creswell to help fill one shaft and make the other into a pumping station .we where there for over a year removing shaft platforms Pipes /cables etc and putting stopping,s on .The reason for making it a pumping station was because there was so much water underground there it was feared that stopping pumping out of Creswell would flood the remaining pits in the coalfield .what a waste of time that was as the other pits have shut anyway. I had 28 years at Sherwood and 1 at Creswell and worked with some great men at both and will cherish that for the rest of my day,s.
Hi Ben i remember you I was a winder at Creswell and also work at Sherwood when that on closed then went on to bilsthorpe to close that on down, what a sad end to my working days for the N C B.
Hi Ben hope you can remember Me I went from Creswell to Sherwood working in the winders when it was closing down, Then came back to Creswell with all the Blacksmiths and fitters to Closes Creswell, then went on to Bilsthorpe to closes that as well. sad time not knowing what was next in life.
Sad to see this gone I left cresswell at 15 the pit was still open and the school we used to go to the nursing cadets next to the pit and and there used to be brilliant fireworks nights . Good memories
Shame they knocked the buildings down should have left it standing as monument to the colliery in general and as memorial to the chaps that died when it caught fire in the 50s can remember my grandad reg telling me storys when I was little about when he used to work at creswell always been aftwr a check disk with it one great video 😀

...through the ages...
My grandad and great grandad worked here
Wouldn't know it was there now shame they had to get rid should have left it up like they did at that one near Mansfield were it just head gears
The best and most sought after Large Cobbles in Britain, worth waiting a day under the screens for a 20 tonne load into a lorry!.
SICK
Headgear without ropes is just wrong in every way
Very sad...!
2015?
1991 is correct for your information, thank you.
2015 was the year the last remaining building came down and any real evidence it was there and not the year it shut. Thanks
